Pittsburg ices as much talent as any team in the league. Crosby and Malkin have both taken their game to another level this year. Fluery(sp) is an incredible talent in net. If this years final turns out to be a rematch I can honestly say I don't know who would win. Emotions would be running high. Hossa would be the focus whether he wins or loses. If he wins and against his old team, it would turn the screw a little tighter. If he loses...then every fan of the Pens can taunt him with "HAAAA! you picked the wrong team to win a Stanley Cup with. Dumass!"
A rematch would be intense. For me, comparable to the intensity of the 97' WCF.
Malkin is Amazing
So i know that this is a Red Wings fan dominated forum, BUT anybody else watch the Penguins vs. Canes game?
and watch Malkins third goal.
the no look backhand shot that went right upper ninety.
if you didn't see the shot,
make sure you look up the shot on ESPN or something, it is sick nasty.
The shot in the third period changed the game. First as a shot that opened up the game,
it was a huge momentum swinger, the Canes just looked lost and the rest of the game was played in their zone it seemed like.
The game was insane throughout the first period, Crosby opened the game up, and out of the first period, Canes were up 3-2, then the second period was almost the polar opposite, Penguins scored once to even it up, but other then that nothing happened until the last 8 seconds, when Penguins scored the go-ahead goal. Then the third period penguins scored 3 more times...including the amazing shot by Malkin. This shot rivals almost all great/historic shots. it was amazing. All I know is I had been watching and I just stood up and was like holy crap, and I called my family in and made them watch it. it was impressive. and yes, I am a penguins fan. not a hard core one, and it is nothing like my fandom of Michigan. but I enjoy watching them and will cheer for them.

was one of the best single series I've ever seen. I think I took 3 years off my life just watching those teams battle. '93 WCF Kings/Leafs, '94 Cup Finals NYR/Canucks-- none can really compare.
As for Malkin, his confidence level was absolutely THROUGH THE ROOF last night, and that's a dangerous thing with such a talented player. If he can keep it up through this series and possibly into the Finals, he'll be a factor.
I was at game 7 when we beat the Avalanche 2-1 in the '97 WCF. Single greatest sporting event I've ever seen live. My nipples are standing on end just thinking about it.
I will give Malkin his props on that goal even though I hate the Penguins.
EDIT: "Pittsburgh ices as much talent as any team in the league." Except for the Red Wings.
No offense, but I kind of feel like the Diaries should be UM-related. I think the OT stuff belongs on MGoBoard. Just my opinion, though. I may be the only one who feels that way.
I feel like Ward went down way too early on that one.
Thought the same thing, until someone who knows hockey better than I do said he had to go down to prepare for the Sega Genesis NHL 94 wrap-around goal.
he was going down to stop the wrist shot. he thought malkin was gonna keep turning towards the middle and shoot, because he has his body at the post, and he leans out looking for the shot to far post, then he comes back to post, and thats when the shot gets by him
I feel like the "Before" chicks on the left banner ad are not even close the same person as the "After" chicks. I think it is kind of false advertising. I may be the only one who feels that way.
The chick on the top has MAN hands. The chick on the bottom, well, there is nothing man about her.....
I almost posted the same comment, but didn't want to be a "douchey" poster.
Thanks Magnus, for filling that gap. Get it? Douchey, gap, haha, I kill me.
I saw "WCF" and thought "WCW" and starting saying to myself, which ppv? Starcade? Halloween Havoc? There were some vicious rivalries in those days with the NWO and Sting... and then I realized "WCF" was Western Conference Finals and the Wings/Avs blah blah blah.
Just goes to show you how much Vince McMahon has been in my mind the lsat week with his publicity stunt (effective)
Malkin is extremely good at hockey.
I think you mean game 6.
What I remember most about that series was the 6-0 shutout we posted on the Avs in game 4. Only to see Roy and Co. do the exact same thing to us in game 5. It killed the momentum in dramatic fashion.
But in keeping with the topic of the thread...Malkin is uber dangerous in the playoffs this year. If voting for the Hart Trophy finished after the playoffs were over, he would win it IMO.
as much as i hate everything and anything penguins, that goal by malkin was unreal
So where's the highlight clip of this goal?
Fly Marines, the best always have.
More impressive goal by Zetterberg:
of Malkin and Crosby. I think we have a deeper team. I think we have a better team. I think Anaheim was a bigger threat. However, we shall see...
Has anyone found a decent rundown of the two teams, preferably from a good blog? I'm much more worried about the Pens this year than last. I think they're a better team, even without Hossa. If Lindstrom and Datsyuk are still hurt, even if they play, we'll be significantly hobbled.
Thanks for that clip. It would be very difficult to describe with words what he did with that play.
