Kelvin Grady in Camp

Submitted by Raback Omaba on
I know this has been discussed before, but I just heard it from the horse's mouth...i.e., people close to the team. Kelvin Grady is performing with the first team offense, and by performing, I mean extremely well. He's making a strong case for himself to get some significant playing time this year. He is tearing it up.

I, for one, didn't expect this at all. I know he's been conditioned in the basketball program, but I thought the switch to football would've been too much of a change. I expected him to add depth at an already strong position, nothing more.

This is very impressive as we are stacked at that position with a lot of young talent. It's great to see Kelvin make his case - hopefully it will light a fire under his brother and make the RB position that much stronger as well.

We'll see if he's really good, or if it's just that our defense in practice isn't great (which hopefully isn't the case), but expect to see Kelvin making plays this fall.

Another tidbit, but this also makes me wonder about Greg Paulus. I wasn't too thrilled about bringing him in, but with Paulus' success in Syracuse's camp and Grady performing well in ours, maybe this PG - > College Football thing isn't a novelty after all.

In any case, I like our options at QB and can't wait to see them making plays with Grady and the other slots this fall.

Even just during the practices that the media has had access to (including today), I would say Grady is one of the best slots on the team.

I believe Grady has 3 years to play 3 (including this year), for the record.

I was at the 2006 State Championship game when East Grand Rapids playd Farmingtin Hills Harrison...Kelvin Grady is an absolute monster. It takes a lot for a HS player to make me say, "AWWW, damn!!!" But, this kid right here has some special ability. The only person I could compare him to was like a "mini-Reggie Bush". He was the best athlete on the field that day, that includes his cousin that was playing QB (EGR), Mark Dell and the rest of the HHS players. The guy makes cuts on the drop of dime, only to pick it and leave change...heck, sometimes he even left dollars on the field for all the falling defenders to recover...Harrison teams don't usually get "did in" like that!!!

When I first heard he was going to school to play basketball, I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!!! I had never seen him play basketball, but I certainly couldn't imagine him being better than he was on the football field that day. I knew this guy was going to be beast in 2006, except he chose the wrong sport.

I was at that game too. He played really well that day. I was also really surprised when he went the basketball route for college. Kevin Grady was a monster in HS too, but I think Kelvin's game is better suited for what RR is doing.

when he first came out of high school. I was disappointed he picked basketball over football. Hopefully, he shows why I was disappointed by being an awesome slot.

I thought when Kelvin originally came to Michigan he really wanted to play both sports. I think Amaker was open to it and Lloyd was too, but then obviously a lot changed. The kid was an excellent Football player in HS though.

Not to mention, going into his Junior year and being in a D-I S&C program, no matter the sport, and working year round being an athlete has put him ahead of any true freshman in terms of being conditioned/seasoned/used to the regimen/work-out schedule, coaching demands, etc. etc. yada yada bler bler

He's going to be awesome!

if they have played football or likes to be physical are often the best player on the team. Basketball is a totally different sports in terms of athleticism. Quickness and explosiveness are one of the more important characteristics for a basketball player. They usually have good hands because they have to fight through traffic to get the rebounds or have to dribble through traffic(not related but just an example). They must have good vision especially as a PG when you need to see everything going on around you. You see successful football players like Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates and to name a few who played basketball. Of course, not all succeed but you have some certain characteristics in order to play football. Not saying that Grady will be the best football player but he has the burst, quickness and the hands to be a good slot WR for Michigan.

his brother needs more than a fire lit under him to add much value to the RB position. He needs to get faster, acquire better vision, etc.

That said he might help in short yardage situations. And kudos to Kelvin.

Charlie Ward won the heisman and never played a down at the next level. He was the point guard for the Nicks back when they were good. Vision and athleticism are good in any sport and these D1 guys have an abundance of both.

Really looking forward to seeing him play. I enjoyed watching Grady play BB, but his defense wasn't up to snuff.
