Hope from Rider H.S.

Submitted by MaizeNBlue on
Hey guys, I normally don't post, but just read; today, though, I've heard something that will interest all of you if it turns out to be true. A friend of mine that goes to Rider High School (Beaver's H.S.) in Texas says that a local paper has declared that Beaver will probably "Fickle Finch" out of his commitment and either - get this - recommit to Michigan, or make home at Texas Tech. This was a local paper of which the credibility I don't know, as I'm not familiar with anything in that area. However, I thought it was worth posting for argument's sake. For a little extra, the columnist in their paper said he believed 60% in Beaver's recommitment to Michigan, but that TTU is on the rise and is, to sum it all up, a "sexier" choice for Beav. I'd categorize this with rumors right now, but seeing as it's in a local paper, I wasn't so sure it shouldn't be given some attention and some thought, at least. My friend knows a couple of the football players on their high school team personally, but doesn't directly know Beaver, which is why I have doubts as to the accuracy of this info at this point. We'll see, though.

I really don't want him back. Yes he is a good dual Threat QB, yes it would add talent but I don't want someone who wants attention. I remember he flat out lied the week before decommitting from Michigan and then committing to Tulsa that he was 100% Michigan and what not. Also, Rich Rod and company have had to try and recruit another potential QB ever since he decommitted. If I was Rich Rod, I would withdraw my scholarship offer.

Don't act so high and mighty. You should want him back, and I would take him in a heartbeat. THink about it, he is a top QB, so why would you turn that down? Because he decommited? Then why do you want Campbell back?

I really doubt that our staff has continued contact with him. Shavodrick got burned by the system, so I feel bad for him. But he played RichRod, and if I were the coach, I would not want to have anything to do with him. Sorry you got screwed - beaver - but you really had to have known that Malzahn was going to get picked up by someone. C'mon - that one was obvious.

We're talking about one of the top-rated dual threat QB prospects in the entire country and you want RR to act like a spurned 8th grade girl? Just STFU. If this kid wants to recommit, you welcome him back and prepare a feast, like the Prodigal Son. If RR is as petty as you guys want him to be his recruiting classes would suck. Grow up.

He's enrolled, which means that he would have to transfer and sit a year if he changes his mind (go through the normal transfer moves). From 12/29: "Tulsa recruit Shavodrick Beaver practiced with the Golden Hurricane on Monday afternoon, essentially binding him to the football program for the upcoming year. Beaver, a much-heralded recruit from Wichita Falls, Texas, went through light workouts with the team as it prepared for the Jan. 6 GMAC Bowl game against Ball State. He won't be available to play in that game." http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2008/12/29/3881638.htm From 1/12: "Last month, quarterback Shavodrick Beaver changed his mind and enrolled at the University of Tulsa instead of the University of Michigan!" http://www.kauz.com/sports/37485394.html

I don't know what local paper to which you refer, but I did not find anything on the Times Record News site regarding a wavering Beaver. Just an article about how another Rider guy jumped ship on his commitment late into the game (they mentioned Beaver's jump as well). "Ward is the second Rider senior to switch his allegiance in the past month. Quarterback Shavodrick Beaver originally committed to Michigan, but opted for Tulsa instead on Dec. 19." http://www.timesrecordnews.com/news/2009/jan/13/changing-route-rider-re…

This was just a rumor, and I classified that several times in my post. I'll ask for a link tonight or ASAP - I don't talk to this friend every day, but most days. For the record, I'd love to have him back... how can you turn down a dual threat QB with upside? I would've taken Fickle Finch back, too, if he'd have wanted to come.

I'd love for us to get him back (or at least a 2nd really good QB in the class), but he's enrolled, which is like Tate, or Big Will leaving the program. I believe this is considered a transfer, since they are technically on the team (and working out...).

the link in the other comment pretty much proves this false, but I'll still ask for a link. don't burn me up for posting this jblaze, I told you I had no idea of the credibility of the source. the whole referencing to TTU by my friend is what prompted me to label this "rumor" since I hadn't read anything anywhere about TTU being on Beav's shortlist at any point in time, to be honest. PS yeah, he also mentioned the WR on his H.S.'s team that jumped

10 days til signing day. This will come out in the wash, but I will go on record as saying I beleive he was intimidated by Forcier and did not like the idea of either switching positions or red shirting and waiting 4 years for 1 season in the sun should he have lost the battle for QB. So why would he change his mind back? Heres hoping Robinson and Forcier duke it out for the starting gig. Good luck in Tulsa, Shav.
