Holiday META: The Gift Of MGoBlog

Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

As I sit here working through the middle of the second pot of coffee, watching my kids enjoy the plethora of gifts that now litter the family room floor, I would like to share something with my virtual MGoFamily – I consider this blog perhaps one of the best  gifts to any fan of Michigan athletics, and the best part about it is that it indeed keeps on giving throughout the year.

I would like to thank Brian for the gift of MGoBlog.

My wife and I actually didn’t do gifts for ourselves this year. We decided  to focus exclusively on the kids, but I began thinking about this blog last night and how I have been a member for nearly a year, and as strange as it sounds, it occurred to me that a place to express my passion for Michigan sports and, really, all things Michigan and Ann Arbor has been my gift.

Up or down, left or right, win or lose, I like to think that, for the most part, we’ve all been here to share,  report and inform, and I believe that  we do this at a level above and beyond any other sports blog out there. There are not many sports blogs that are as rife with intelligent references to everything from Mel Brooks films to Faust, where an article about the trees on the Ohio campus precipitates a detailed discussion on the origins of the Second World War, or where a near meltdown after a loss is so quickly curtailed with wisdom and humor. Things like this demonstrate the class and education of merry band of Wolverines, and they place this site on a different plane, in my opinion.

As we begin to get out of bed, open gifts, eat breakfast, or what have you this morning, I submit that those of us who spend time here already have opened one of our gifts simply by clicking on a link which I am sure  is on most of our bookmark bars.

I have enjoyed my first year on this site, and I intend to hang around for many more.

Yes, MGoBlog, I have already opened you this morning, but not before I had to literally  unscrew a toy truck from a box. Really, modern package design?

This is my first diary post, incidentally, so hopefully you enjoy it.

but I did enjoy this. Bravo. It is the intelligence of the majority of this blog that has had me coming here everyday. Merry Christmas to you, along with a very merry Festivus as well!

that us how I feel. I open the Mgoblog app first thing every morning. My family gives me a hard time for being on it so often. Although, I have been able to share the Blog with Michigan Grayhairs of my family and they love it. My Father in law loves watching recruiting videos and I always text him when there is a new Hello post.

Thank you to everyone that is involved here.

Very nice read on a Christmas morning, we are the same, the wife and I focus on the kids, and Mgoblog is one of the few sites on the internet that's always on my browser.

No assembly required!

When talking with friends or family we will discuss M athletic happenings and I will share a tidbit with someone who is oblivious to the detail I shared with them. The conversation after this point goes like this:

Family member or friend: "Where did you hear that? That wasn't in the News or Free Press this morning."

Me: "You're right. I read it yesterday on Mgoblog- the most accurate source of information that I have found on Michigan sports. You should dial it up."

FM/F- "Hmmm, thanks for the tip."

Just wait until the children are older.  Then you won't have to worry about unpacking or assembling, but you might have to worry about maxing out your credit card.

And rarely does a day go by that I don't obsessively check MGoBlog to see what is new. You are so right about how good, we, as Michigan fans, have it, to have a blog such as this.  Now I can't say I've checked every university sports blog in the nation, but every one I have ever checked, including the main ones for every B1G university (btw, courtesy of MGoBlog, they're just one click away) and several others, are nowhere near as comprehensive, constantly updated, or filled with intelligent posters as this one.

MGoBlog is one of the first things I check every day and has been since I found it. The content level here is extraordinarily high. I occasionally forward MGoBlog posts to friends and relatives with little or no Michigan affiliation and they invariably love them.

There's only one downside. Thanks to MGoBlog (and a bit to Three and Out), I feel like I know this senior class better than any since I began my obsessive fandom in the early 70s. Win or lose in the Sugar Bowl, I'll be so sorry to see these guys play their last game. Especially Molk, that early favorite of Brian's, star of picture-paged reach blocks and UFR charts and ultimately winner of the Rimington. MGoBlog allows us to follow players from high school to the Big House to whatever is next, NFL or not. Thanks to the efforts of Brian and his Elves, we are the best informed, most entertained, and most enlightened fan base anywhere.

Long live MGoBlog! Go Blue!

I found this blog 3 or 4 years ago, living in Columbus there aren't many fans of the Maize and Blue and I had a hard time staying informed without a bunch of jackassery...thanks to Brian and the community I stay informed and entertained. I visit daily and will continue to do so. I never registered to the site feeling I wouldn't have much to contribute, but took the opportunity so I could add my thanks to all involved. Go Blue!!

I do not contribute to the blog as much as others but I do appreciate all the efforts of everyone on this blog. This is the first site I go to in the morning and the last site I read before bread. I have only been a part of the mgoblog " family" for about ten months but have been a wolverine for life. I only wish I found this site a long time ago. I whole heartedly agree with others that the intelligence expressed here is what I enjoy the most. Excellent post.

I'd like to agree whole heartedly with the OP. If we didn't already have the mighty MGoBlog, that would be about the best present imaginable.

Thanks to Brian for founding it, and also to the regular posters that chip in to keep the rest of us abreast of news that we probably would not otherwise get.

Now, time to clean up the Christmas aftermath . . . .
