The Future of Michigan Football (revisions made)

With last year being Rich Rodriguez' first year with the blue and maize you cant really blame him or be mad about the dismal record of 3-9 with no bowl elegibility. after all, new coach and new place do not combine to be a good combination. with his steller recruiting, getting 4 and 5 star prospects such as Tate Forcier and Je'Ron Stokes, i do not think it will be long before you see michigan back at the top of the rankings. and lets face it, we were ganna have a bad year anyway with offensive starters Henne, Hart, Manningham, and the #1 pick Jake Long gone, along with linebacker Shawn Crable (even though he esentially costs us the 2006 OSU game with that late hit AND blocked th wrong guy on the field goal that made us lose to Appalachian State).
I think that Rich Rodriguez is a nice fit though. although we dont really have a dual threat QB he can obvioulsy get one and even if we dont Tate Forcier will be a good starter next year (assuming Nick Sheridan starts this year)
thats assuming of course.
from the things ive read today it looks like Forcier will be starting though.
guess well have to wait and see.
The 2010 recruiting class is even better than the 09 one
im thinking this year wil be the .500+ year and NEXT year well all get what we wanted.
The Rose Bowl or the National Championship.
and Maybe even finally beating OSU.

and yes Tate Forcier is a dual threat but hes more Pro style than dual threat

'10 class better than the '09 class? Dont think it will happen.

Nick Sheridan this year? Its Forcier/DR or bust.

Forcier is a prime duel threat QB, not sure what makes you think hes a pro style QB. Its sure not his 6 feet height and 190ish weight. Hes also very athletic when it comes to scrambling and finding receivers while scrambling.

ps. Its maize and blue. Not blue and maize or big blue.

i think you got it about right, however as of now i wouldn't say the 2010 class will be better then the 2009 class. There is a good chance it will be, especially if we get sentral and pratter. your a crazy man if you think sheridan has a chance to start though. I would rather have mesko at qb then sheridan. As for the that school to the south, i really think we can take them this year. you can never count out emotion in THE GAME. And i think by the end of the season we will finally see what RR offense is supposed to be, a high powerd scoaring machine.

FSN fucking loves showing that hit on UCLA's QB from late in the 2006 USC-UCLA game, and that was just as bad of a late hit as (if not worse than) Crable's. The USC LB (was it Maualuga?) hit him well out-of-bounds and clearly was leading with his helmet.

I'm not blaming that "phantom" call for costing the game. I am simply stating a fact that the hit in question was indeed not late. The hit did come at a crucial moment and severely hampered our chances from that point on. I do agree though we shouldn't put ourselves in a position like that.

"we don't have a double threat QB" Huh? Tate is probably one of the best double-threat QBs we could get because unlike a lot of them, he can pass just as well as he runs. He isn't the fastest, though he is fast, but not the fastest, but that doesn't always matter. He is more elusive than a lot of the faster guys. He ran for more yards than Denard Robinson but Robinson is faster.

If Tate turns out, I am curious to what happens to the commit from Devin Gardner. What if Tate has a really good season? Not just good, i mean REALLY good. Like he passes for 2,500+ yards and runs for 800+?

Devin probably won't want to back up Tate since he is so good of an athlete, and might want to go elseware...

I was really pissed that they limited the Heisman voting to college players last year, otherwise Tate would have won it hands down.

I think we should just skip the preliminaries, and just award Tate the Heisman for this coming season. But my real question is, due to his sheer awesomeness, is just 1 Heisman sufficient? Shouldn't he be awarded 2 or 3 for next season?

As we all know, the Heisman is a memorial trophy named after John Heisman. But we should also know by now that Tate takes no trophy that is the namesake of another. It's like receiving hand-me-down clothing. He is above that.

Henceforth, Tate will be the winner of the Tate Force One trophy awarded to the most all-around awesome player in all of sports. Criteria includes wristband color choices, popularity with the ladies and pre-season hype. Details on the trophy itself have yet to emerge, but I picture a Tate-like robot that shoots fire from its nostrils, lasers from its eyes and blasts Metallica from its mouth. It may only be awarded at night.

will be when Tate starts taking hits from Div I-A defenders. But, Tate appears to be a tenacious competitor so I think he will do well at this level. I wouldn't worry about scaring Gardner away. If Devin is a competitor and if his heart is truly with UM, then he will be competing for the starting job in 2010.

It would be awesome for this to happen. Somebody mentioned it a while ago, but when did sitting for 3 years and starting your final 2 become such a bad thing? If Tate plays really, REALLY good, Gardner could conceivably red-shirt next season. Eventually, if Tate plays out his 4 years, Gardner will have 2 seasons of eligibility as starter, meaning senior and 5th year.

I have that same concern. What if Tate plays like he did in the spring game and has a great year, will Garnder think twice about UM? Hopefully he won't shy away from the competition and RRod will probably promise to use him as a change of pace QB as he develops (like Tebow as a freshman). If he does bail, at least that means Tate is the real deal and we have a great QB for four years barring any injuries.

I don't think this will be that big of a problem. Devin has gotten along very well with Tate (reportedly) at the recent camps and I don't think he's that afraid of competition (he was chatting up Braxton Miller the OMG EVERYTHING QB in the 2011 class, and trying to get him to think about Michigan). I truly think he loves Michigan and is willing to come in, bust his a$$ and try to earn the starting role, however long it takes. From the interviews and various reports on his character (from the scout and rivals guys), I think he's an outstanding young man with a good head on his shoulders and I look forward to him getting up to Ann Arbor.

I agree with all of this post, but have to add that the defense wasn't all that great, either. It was like good news, bad news. The good news was that most of the defense was coming back, but the bad news was that they weren't really very good in the first place.

The offense did keep the defense on the field too long with their lack of competence at the QB position, but the defense definitely should shoulder some of the blame for......

"THE ABERRATION OF 2008."

This year, I fully expect the situation to go back to "business as usual" in the Big House. After all, we ARE talking about the University of Michigan here.

I don't see how this diary is much different than what my grandpa would say between long sips of PBR. Why do we need a new diary entry when the general expectations through this whole offseason have been an unglamorous bowl game in 2009 and then BIG THINGS in 2010 and beyond?

I guess I just wanted to learn something new here and instead I got a long-winded reiteration of what's been hammered home for months.

Details Grandpa Flood would be able to discuss:

1) New coach, square pegs in round holes, RR will get better recruits, etc.
2) We lost a lot of talent after 2007.
3) RR was a good choice.
4) Decent season this year followed by bigger/better things.
5) Tate Forcier can run and throw, but can throw really well.

Looking back, the only disparity would've been your assumption that Sheridan will start this year, when I think the rest of the MGoCommunity is under the assumption Tate is the obvious starter.

Don't get mad at me, Young Fan, if you are indeed 12 then you definitely knew more about the program than I did at your age.
