Michigan Athletics Announces Ticket Prices for 2012 Football Season

ANN ARBOR – The University of Michigan Athletic Department announced Friday (March 30) the ticket pricing levels for the 2012 football season. The six-game home slate will cost $390 per ticket.

“We appreciate the contribution our fans make to our football program and Michigan Athletics through their commitment every Saturday at the Big House,” said Dave Brandon, the Donald R. Shepherd Director of Athletics. “The financial support we receive from our fans provides us with critical resources we need to create outstanding academic and athletic experiences for our student-athletes across all of our 29 sports. Our fans passion for Michigan Football is unparalleled.”

Individual game tickets will be priced at $75 per ticket for games against Air Force (Sept. 8), Massachusetts (Sept. 15), Illinois (Oct. 13), Northwestern (Nov. 10) and Iowa (Nov. 17). The Michigan State game on Oct. 20 has been designated as a premium game and individual tickets for that contest will be priced at $95 per seat.

This is the second straight year that Michigan has moderately increased season ticket prices after keeping prices constant for the seven years prior to the 2011 season.

“We benchmarked our ticket prices against our peers and other comparable football venues and we have concluded that these prices will bring us closer to current industry standards,” said Brandon.

The athletic department will also offer ticket packs to accommodate fan interest in partial season ticket packages. Ticket packs and individual game tickets will go on sale in July.

To purchase a wheelchair accessible football season ticket, please email the ticket office at [email protected] or call (734) 764-0247 or (866) 296-MTIX (6849).

Season ticket renewal packages will be available in early April.

Just because you are wearing tinfoil doesn't mean that you aren't right.  Wait until the "season" is only the lousy games and the big games are all StubHub only.  If you think that's nuts, recall that the best game of the year is being played against Alabama in Texas and is not part of any season ticket package.

I can't believe the whining and crying from everyone on this board.

Michigan football season tickets is not a right. Going to Michigan games is a privilege. I wasn't able to go to a single game from the day I was born until I was 17 because my family couldn't afford it. I've paid my own way to every single game I've been to since then (including season tickets aftermarket in '10). I'm positive you can cut SOMETHING out of your daily/weekly/monthly expenses to afford it. Buy less beer, eat at restaurants less, stop buying pop/water, turn off your cable in the summer months (when you don't watch TV anyway). Don't cry about season tickets. We want to compete with the best, we're going to have to pay for it. Look at Alabama. $395 for season tickets with an even more awful home schedule than we have. (Seven games).

Either you charge and compete like the big boys or your charge and compete with the little boys.

If you can't/won't make the sacrifices to purchase Michigan season tickets I'm sure CMU still has some packages available at a reasonable cost.

It seems to me there are two divergent camps here:  The people who will be paying full price for these tickets (often with PSD's), and those who depend on these people taking a hit to sell off tickets to lesser games.

And, at the end of the day, it all boils down to the fact that Dave Brandon doesn't care either way.  He's going to get a cut from both the ticket sale and the StubHub sale.  The Athletic Department will announce another year in the black.  And ticket prices will go up again next year with another corporate-speak blurb about "industry standards."   Nothing will ever change.

Frankly, the cost for the season doesn't bother me that much.  It is just the content.  I mean, the schedule is just not that good.  If the Pizza Man is worried about the revenue loss of a home and home, just increase the prices.  Most season ticket holders would gladly pay 500+ per seat for a 6 or 7 game season of quality than 390 for a season highlighted by Sparty, Iowa and Air Force.

Here is a link to an inflation calculator:

http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/

The $95 ticket to see little brother would have cost 75.07 in 2002 and $58,54 in 1992.  If someone knows what they paid for tickets in any given year, it would be interesting to see if ticket prices have been going up faster than th rate of inflation.
