D-coordinator choice narrowed down

. YES . When THE KNOWLEDGE makes a post on these very pages, it is usually one of the most viewed (if you doubt it, check back in a few days for how popular this post is) . yes . despite this, some people still seem to take the predictions of THE KNOWLEDGE lightly, and assume I'll be wrong. Well, you know what happened . THE KNOWLEDGE has been basking in glory the last few days after the correct prediction that Shafer will be let go . yes . this time, THE KNOWLEDGE is back with inside info on the D-ccordinator choices. At this point, some of the info can be released and some now . yes . Here's what went down . Originally, three guys were talked to about the job. One was a longshot, and he has turned it down. The other was relatively less longshot, and it appears he's mostly out as well. The third is still in contention . The Longshot: Pittsburgh's D-coordinator (no, not U Pitt, but the Pitt Steelers) - Dick Lebeau. It is well known that DL has had some interest in the college game for a while, but with his Pitt D working so well, and the way he's entrenched there, it was not possible to get him. RR talked with him, but it didn't work . yes . The lesser longshot: Tommy Tuberville, the ex-coach of the Aubies. He was definitely interested initially, but due to philosophical differences with RR, it appears that he's very unlikely to come here now . yes . the third one is still in contention, and there is a good chance he may be the next DC. Of course, I can't reveal his name now because he's still in the running (otherwise, what's the difference between me and the jackass Herbstreit?). But, you can rest assured that this guy will also make M fans very happy, as I said in my previous post. Suffice to say, his name is NOT one of the ones making rounds in the internet . yes . and if this third guy doesn't work, then Hopson (whom THE KNOWLEDGE alls Hopperson) will be the DC. Sad, but true . yes . . Oh, and Ronald English was never in contention. Have fun at emu, Ronald . yes .

Through the powers of the Internets, I was able to get a transcript of the messages on Lebeau's answering machine last week: *beep* Hey Lebeau, old buddy. It's Derrick Gragg over at Eastern Michigan. Remember me? Anyway, I was wondering if you might be interested in getting into college head coaching? Gimme a call, bro! *beep* Dick, hey, it's Kathy Beauregard over at Western Michigan. We're the Broncos. What you doing, say, for the next few football season? Call me! Mmmmwha! *beep* Hi, Dick, it's me Mark Dantonio. I was just wanted to call and thank you for that jumping-the-snap-count idea a little while back -- refs didn't even notice it once! Anyway, that job offer's still available if you ever want it. Ciao, buddy. *beep* Oh, hello Dick Lebeau. Is this recording? I'm still not so great at these things. So hey, it's William Clay Ford again. I know you've been busy and all, but I hear you know something about playing defense, and, well, we frankly could use some right now. If you're interested, give Matt a call. I know we fired him, but he's still doing some things for us, like running the team. Thank you, Dick, for your time. *beep* Dick! Dicky ol' chum! Dicky boy! Hey, it's Rich Rod over at MEEESHigan. How you liking our players over there? So I was thinking, what's bigger and better than coaching defense at Heinz Field? Well, how about 111 thousaroos. You think you've got a defense with just a couple Wolverines -- I got a whole team of them. Anyway, gimme a holla if you aint a chickin sh....DAMMIT BARWIS -- LET THAT PLAYER GO -- HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU NOT TO EAT MY SLOT RECEI...[click] Between the Spartans last year, the Lions and now Michigan, I wouldn't be surprised if this dude put a block on every (313), (734), (517) or (248) number in the phone book.

Les Miles! Gotcha Sorry, that was probably a douche-bag thing to say. But I laughed at it and that is all that matters. What if it was though. As crazy as the last 12 months have been, nothing would surprise me. "Let errr Rip!"

If they can't get LeBeau then they should just go str8 to the top and get Mike Tomlin. He ran a pretty good defense up there in Minnesota so he's down with the, you know, destroyyoursoul winters. And have you seen Heinz Field. Dude there's advertisments everywhere. The score board is flanked by 2 huge ketchup bottles that tilt and pour when the Steelers get into the "Heniz red zone." How tacky is that? Plus, you've got all these rednecks and blue collar types waving those towels around with their redneck women who think they're hot. It must be hell to coach in a place like that. I'm sure either would rather coach in the Big House, where the fans allow quiet so a man can think, and understand decorum, good sportmanship, and tradition. Have you seen that polynesian they got at safety. Hair coming out his helmet, running around trying to kill everyone. Michigan would never have a safety like that! Plus the Steelers have to play the Ravens twice. No Michigan Man (except Woodley, Remeirsma, Tuman, and Foote)would ever lower himself to step onto the field with that bunch of felons and thugs.

I love how vain The Knowledge is. Back to bask in his glory... however I was disappointed to read at the end of the post he couldn't reveal the remaining candidate. Who is the Third Man?

Post views are the equivalent of site hits for an on-line column, but Drew Sharp isn't collecting Pulitzers any time soon... wouldn't get TOO big of a head.

"THE KNOWLEDGE has been basking in glory the last few days after the correct prediction that Shafer will be let go" Rivaled only by the glory you basked in by correctly divining that STEVE SARKISIAN would be Michigan's coach. That was epic. yes.

If only it could be Romeo. He'll get snatched up as a DC in the bigs. Rocky? Sure. Tenuta loves to move around but...More of a even front guy. Once again I find myself saying this, "I wish we would make a decision!" I need some stability and so does our program.

I'd be interested to know what the 'philosophical differences' were. I'm guessing Tubbs doesn't want to run a 3-3-5. I'd guess Tubberville will be a head coach somewhere in '10.

This program needs some stability and fast! I'm a diehard and true Blue, but there are some chinks beginning to show in the RR armour. Beaver going to TULSA?!?!? RR 'making' a change at DC with no apparent viable prospects?!?!? Isn't this like the old job rule? You don't quit a job without another one to go to. Is deciding to go in a new 'direction' with the DC a good idea if that direction cannot de found quickly so as to solidify the necessary recruits to build it? I understand completely the 'differences' between RR and SS, but wouldn't RR have talked to some others and gotten a good feel for their interest in the job if it were to come open? In this economy, with so much uncertainty, would you voluntarily leave a high profile position with a top program with NO job to go to? The turnover so early in the new regime, with no replacement in the sights gives the impression of uncertainty, and possibly a HC that wants to control the defense as well as the offense. We are all fans, some more knowledgeable than others, but the apparent lack of continuity and ever-growing question marks left by the defection of recruits makes this program look a lot less stable than any top 5-10 progam in the country. Have we fallen that far in one year? Or is all this coincidental serendipity that simply appears related. Maybe this is all concern over nothing, but if the rumors of Hopson thinking of going back to the South are true, and a quality DC is not found at the same time, the appearance of instability creeps in and the possibility of more lost recruits looms larger. Can all this be just a Wolverine Christmas Carol and we will all wake up tomorrow morning to find we didn't miss the blessed day and all is right with the Program?
