Craig Roh update from Fred Roh.

I spoke with Craig Roh's father, Fred, today. He gave me an update about what Craig has been up to, and how he has improved with regards to football.

Craig is very involved with Campus Crusade, and Athletes in Action on campus. "He's down in New Orleans right now with those two groups on a mission trip. They're helping out with Katrina, cleaning up, and I believe they're helping build a house," Fred told me. Craig has been there since this past saturday, and Fred expects him back this weekend.

Roh has always been a good student, and always been very motivated to help the community. "He's been involved with a lot of these organizations on campus, and a little more involved with Athletes in Action. He got pretty involved over the summer, he's always been very into his religion, and just always been a good student. He was working last summer with a few mentor type things, too. I know they do a lot of local type services, and this is the first time he's gone out on a trip like this," said Fred.

Spring practice is coming soon, and Craig has also made it a point to stay focused with his improvement on the field as well. "He's up to 255 now. He ended the season at 240, so he's already gained about 15 pounds. The coaches said they want him at 255, or maybe 260. He's had tremendous increases in all his exercises, too. I don't know the exact numbers, by I know he's increased his bench, squat, and everything else,"

Injury seemed to plague a lot of the team this past season, and that included Craig, as well. "He got three stingers throughout the season in his neck, so he couldn't do any upper body stuff. It was really after the Illinois game that he couldn't do any of the upper body workouts during the season. As soon as the season was over, he rehabbed the nerve, and is ready to go. It's hard to activate the muscle the right way with nerve problems, so it was difficult for him during the season. He's good to go now, though," said Fred. "Everyone was concerned about his size last year, and I don't think that will be the case this year."

Craig's absolutely perfect for Michigan on so many levels. Someone touched on it earlier, but being around kids like him will make a trememendous difference for players like Dorsey. Families like the Roh's and the Mealer's are a huge part of what I look at when I judge our coach. The character is there and the rest of the stuff, the wins, the vindication, and most importantly, the payback, is on its way.

look for in a leader. I think in the next year or two he will end up being a great defensive team leader or even an overall team leader! Great Leaders, lead by EXAMPLE!!!!

With BG gone, I expect Craig Roh to step it up the next year or two to be our defensive leader. Our defense needs a leader like BG was...vocally and on the field. Craig Roh is that guy! I think it's awesome that he is involved in Campus Crusade and Athletes in Action....what a role model! He's always been an academic stud. He's a great guy for our very young team to look up to and model after. I LOVE that he's up to 255 lbs. That means he's stronger (and it's only March!). Mike Martin will be one of our team leaders,as well. Getting pumped! Let's shock the world once again!!! Fill up the Big House for the Spring Game - April 17th! Go Blue baby!

Glad to hear what Craig is up to, and looking forward to three more years of him terrorizing Big Ten QBs. Somewhat meta or off-topic here, but my closest friend is actually Roh's second cousin (one set of great-grandparents in common). Or, another way to say it is that Fred Roh and my friend's father are first cousins to each other. Between that and Mike Martin having attended my high school, albeit a decade after me, I have a lot invested in our D-line. :)

This is great to hear about a good player who is a high character guy. Every news I hear about Craig makes me even more of a fan of his personally. Although he won't get the same national recognition as Florida QB#15, I think we are feeling a very similar feeling in our fanship of Roh that Florida fans felt after Florida QB#15's first year when people began to hear of his Missions work and his team leadership character. I hope our excitement for Craig will see similar successes for Michigan football that happened for Florida the last 3 years highly due to their high character, missions minded team leader.
