I resorted to just ignoring the comment or pretending like I didn't hear it and promptly bring us the BCS or the Big 12 situation. Seems to have worked so far.
Bowl selection hell / next person gets a throat punch
For basically as long as I can remember, the Big Ten season would wrap up and I would start to obsess about the next few weeks of games to determine just how the bowl selection would shake out for Michigan. Would we move up, would we get screwed, would we have a terrible match up with a mobile quarterback, etc. Obviously this year, it all ended, when the Big Ten season ended. No more drama, no more hope, no nothing. It is bizarre talking to friends from other schools and not having anything to say. It is if it really isn’t happening. I try to compare it to my lack of enthusiasm for March Madness since I can barely remember the last game we played in the tourney, but this is more strange than that. Maybe it is just me.
On the flip side, I keep getting something to the effect of “you guys have been good for so long…. this was bound to happen”. That was ok for the first twenty times, I swear the next person that says it has to die. It has now become one of those dreaded conversational items that gets thrown out as a somewhat conciliatory statement, but is really seems more like a backhand slap. With a “whole lot of nuthin’” to do over the next month, I hope snake oil will be distributed in vats to further shore up this next class to ensure we are not setting on our asses again next year.
I recommend babbling in an obscure foreign language.
In the absence of that, Drakeep's suggestion is a good one. If you throw the word "playoffs" in there, you're sure to get some sort of reaction, because it seems pretty much everybody has a strong opinion one way or another.
Like the Michigan economy. That will get you through the pain of the 2008 Bowl season. Also hope college basketball is finally returning to Ann Arbor
...I actually have two simple assault charges pending from conversations like these. I don't have a real problem with everybody putting there mouth on Michigan. Look at it as a cleansing of the hanger-ons. This is a test. We have a great opportunity to find out who the real Michigan people are. It was painful but so are colonoscopies. Ahem...I think. Besides, I hate these F****** people anyway.
I see it as you have three options to tell them A) "Mind your own business." If they are true Blue then they can talk. If not, go to hell. B) Ask who there team is and rebut about there pathetic years (This works best on Iowa, Nebraska and Notre Dame fans) and finally C) “Go "f*** yourself and GO BLUE!!!" Guess which is my favorite...
From the DMI
Just ignore them (at the osu game there were lots and lots of comments -- we ignored them all and did not respond -- the comments just stopped).
If you can't do that, just agree "We totally sucked this year!" They are looking to get you upset and this annoys the shit out of them.
