WISDOM OF THE ELDERS

The game is what it is.  We can't change the results-- but I was really thinkin' we'd pull that one out.  Hats off to the seniors for fighting so hard and giving so much... your stories deserve a better ending.  It's also worth noting how the Michigan fan base is so willing to appreciate talent and OMG HE JUST TOOK VINCE'S HEAD OFF aspect of the game, even when it's the opposition.

Tomorrow I will unveil what is likely the final drawing I'll ever do of a young man from Deerfield Beach.  If I do say so, it's a special one-- don't miss it.

At the risk of potentially insulting your artistic skill, the fact that none of the M jerseys in the first panel have the same color blue or yellow is a fantastic touch, if intended and I'm not seeing things.

If not, I apologize but it is still hilarious.

With the probable exception of Oregon, I think Michigan is the only team in the bowl season who donned jerseys that were markedly different than what they wore during the regular season.  Alabama is going to have a new uniform from Nike based on their most recent technology, but the colors and style are pretty much the same as their current outfits.

What does that say about Michigan's marketing efforts?  I may be a bit old school here, but classic uniforms and uniform looks never go out of style.  You can point to Yankee pinstripes or the Old English D with the Tigers or the Montreal Canadians or the Red Wings logo as just a handful of examples of looks that don't need to be tampered with in a major way.

But because Michigan's marketing department (and David Brandon) along with Adidas want to make some more money selling these jerseys, they take a step in what I'd call the wrong direction (including giving up wearing the home blue jerseys for the bowl game).

My advice to them is this--keep it simple.  If you have to tweak the jerseys for a bowl game of a special regular season game, don't get too fancy with it.  The Sugar Bowl jerseys were fine because they stayed within the box.  I realize they felt the struck gold with the UTL jerseys, but the result of that game probably had more of an impact on sales than the actual style itself.

If UM and Adidas had just kept the blue jerseys and replaced the numbers on the shoulders with block M's, they would have had a classic look that would also would have been sellable.  Instead, Michigan looked like a CFL or Arena Football League team out there with numbers that were difficult to read even on a HD television set.

haven't been the same for two years straight since we switch to Adidas anyways. There is no "brand recognition" or "tradition" left in them. In my mind, DB should keep messing with them until they find something as iconic as our home jerseys. IMO, the Sugar Bowl jerseys would be sweet as our everyday away uni's. But that seems out of the question now that we have had 3 different away uniforms just this season.

Im constantly surrounded by buckeye fans. Today they had nothing else better to talk about other than the Clowney explosion. I know most of them are not the brightest lamps on the Columbus streets but they were smart enough to not recognize who it was that got his head blow off because they couldn't read the numbers on the (yellow) on white barely a border of blue jerseys. A "bright" idea indeed.
