It shouldn't bother me so much that our brains are just wired so differently, but it does. Why I keep clicking on these praying for cleverness and irony and characters who have metaphorical power I don't know. I respect that a lot of people really like this. I don't. I don't like that the dad gives a sanctinmonious speech and the kid is just buoyed and goes out the door.

To risk the ire of everyone who likes this schmaltz, I wish there were two more panels. One where Charlie is at the bus stop with his friend and they're both stowing all the Michigan gear their dads made them wear and they're like "your dad too?" "Yeah: pride, loyalty, character, etc.--yours?" "Mine said 'tradition'!"

And a second once they're getting on the bus and they go "Oh, speaking of traditions, how many kids do you think Spartan Sammy (a huge bully kid we see in the background in MSU gear pounding on some Michigan kid while a pile of other Michigan kids sit bruised around him) is gonna hospitalize this year?"

only readers of the work.   My ten year old son loves the comic.  My guess is that there are a lot of younger readers of MGoBlog who do, too.

Look, I love the truly bizarre of this site, the pedantic, the ironic, the informative, and the interesting OT stuff.  But, there is defnitely room for The Blockham's.  The blog would suck out loud if it was UFRs 24/7 and people bitching about why we aren't steam rolling to our fifth NC in a row.  It would do this site some good to have some additional content appropriate for younger fans --  expand your market.

I agree strongly that there's room for the Blockhams.

There VERY few 10-year-olds here though and we'll never really go for their demographic. It's generally a bad idea to go away from what you do simply to expand your audience. People are here to appreciate what we do--I'd rather the 10-year-olds think this is something dad reads that is too much like homework, then come back later in life when he realizes he'd rather be doing this than homework.

What we do have is a lot of fans who don't want to just be really negative and pedantic--they want to root for Michigan and feel good about doing so and feel informed while doing so. The Blockhams is definitely in MGOBLOG's wheelhouse--it's just not in mine.
