Big Ten Recruiting Rankings: 8-26-12
The Big Ten Recruiting Rankings returns after a two-week hiatus. Outside of Penn State's class continuing to fall apart, little of note occurred since the rankings were last posted; look no further than Indiana picking up the highest-ranked recruit in that span for evidence. Changes since the last rankings:
8-5-12: Minnesota picks up Jalen Myrick.
8-6-12: Wisconsin picks up Alex James.
8-7-12: Illinois picks up Reggie Spearman. Dorian Johnson and Zach Bradshaw decommit from Penn State.
8-8-12: Nebraska picks up Zach Hannon. Indiana picks up Myles Graham.
8-9-12: Nebraska picks up Jonathan Cook. Indiana picks up Antonio Allen.
8-10-12: Illinois picks up Martize Barr. Northwestern picks up Godwin Igwebuike.
8-11-12: Penn State picks up Jordan Smith.
8-12-12: Iowa picks up Matthew VandeBerg. Indiana picks up Chase Dutra.
8-18-12: Illinois picks up Miguel Hermosillo.
8-20-12: Purdue picks up Dwayne Johnson.
8-25-12: Michigan State picks up Demetrius Cooper.

NOTE: Unranked recruits are counted as two-star players.
To eliminate any confusion about how the rankings are determined (to be honest, they used to be arbitrary), team order is determined by multiplying the number of commits by star average.

use their remaining schollies for running backs in this class?
Brady Hoke - High quality recruits one or two at a time.
They will but in an attempt to dupe the AIRBHG they will not call them running backs. From now on they will call them Guy who takes ball from quarterback by hand.
edit: Didnt see comments below with same thought but I'm still taking credit for the new position name.
I definitely guessed Indiana [getting the biggest commit] before reading this. Your twitter hint [you'll never guess...] kind of gave it away.
Avatar is a reference to this. Go Blue!
Why doesn't Iowa have any RB commits?
"I tried to but a pencil in the light socket but it was too wide and didn't fit so I used a paperclip."-Terrelle Pryor, Future Rhodes Scholar
Northwestern; I had told Ace to watch out for Godwin a year ago. He had another blowout game in the opener Friday night (wasn't there, but think he had some of the top rushing stats for central Ohio - 4 TDs, 260 yards rushing, plus 40 yards receiving in the 50-22 win). Before the game, nice article and picture of Jake and Godwin here.
In related Picktown recruit news, the local "This Week" paper had a big article in their season preview insert on "Michigan Taking a Bite of Central Ohio Talent" and featured Taco (and teammate) on the cover:

Iowa is classifying all RB prospects at other positions for their protection. They will then reclassify them to RB 3 minutes before gametime.

I don't know if it is a good ideal to anger the Gods by tricking them.
Greetings from Bolivia.
"It's special how the real true people hang together. And if you don't support the program you're not a true Michigan guy. It's that simple." - Gary Moeller
Yeah, you gotta figure at least one of the 4 (!) safeties in the recruiting class is destined for RB. And maybe the ATH, and one of the LBs or TE. Heck, half of the class will probably be needed to carry the ball at some point in the next 5 years.
Seriously, though, 4 safeties in one class?
Not sure how that affects your rankings, but he's technically a 2014 class kid.
Indiana got a 4 star. What is this world coming to?
903 wins most in college football
They better hope LSU and ND don't decide they want him!
"I'm the guy who does his job. You must be the other guy."
Or Michigan. I hear our coach is a snake oil salesman with some sort of power of recruits bound for the state of Indiana. Or does that only work with Purdue recruits?
they also had Gunner Kiel, a five star(!!!) and #1 quarterback in the nation. Don't get too excited.
Full-on Decatur Clan. Whatever happens, GO BLUE!
Indiana, comin' on like gangbusters! They passed Minnesota! How far can they rise?! B1G recruiting excitement, right here.
Denard has spent the offseason working really hard and smiling at people.
In the full data section, you have Illinois as #5 instead of #4.
For the record, I preferred the old arbitrary rankings to the new mathematical ones. Soemtimes the eye test can make a small class better than a larger one.
Pronounced Ahh-Neh-Muh
To eliminate any confusion about how the rankings are determined (to be honest, they used to be arbitrary), team order is determined by multiplying the number of commits by star average.
That is, it's just the total number of stars. Are two three-stars better than one five-star? Perhaps, but it doesn't feel right quite right.
Just off the top of my head, you can use Matt Hinton's findings.
Using those weightings (which are based on making All American teams - a flawed, but decent metric), you get that a 5 star recruit is about 2.6 times more likely to be a star than a 4 star recruit, who is in turn around 4.2 times more likely to be a star than a 3 star recruit.
Now star power isn't the only thing that matters, but I don't see any reason to think the distribution for "role player" or "starter" is all that different.
Wouldn't it be nice if someone found all the data you needed to rank the teams any way you want, then compiled it all in one place? Yeah, it sure would.
Just sayin', you guys. No matter what way I do it there are always going to be complaints, and the exact order of the teams doesn't matter nearly as much as getting a snapshot of their respective classes. Also, I'm certainly not stopping anyone from taking the data and doing whatever they want with it; in fact, I'd encourage it.
Ace I really think that you present the data in a blue serif font. It just doesn't seem like the most accurate portrayal of the data if it's current format.
and I'm gonna give you some advice: just do your thing and don't even bother to respond as you just did A.) they aren't listening B.) what you are stating is obvious to the point where you shouldn't have to retype it every other recruiting rankings post.
Seriously folks, rather than bitching go out and do what you consider better or just mumble to your self.
jdon
We are the dead.
State got another unranked player? Noooooooooooooooooo..............
Take it easy. Cooper was rated higher than both Dawson and LTT (actually ranked highest o-lineman or d-lineman) at SMSB by Helmholdt...the kid is legit. MSU also picked up Dennis Finley tonight.
http://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1375721
MSU only has two kids from Michigan, if they keep this pace up they will suck again in no time.

New coach at Illinois seems to be a good recruiter -- may be as good as Zook -- and new coordinators at Iowa are helping out.
