Wow, is Nebraska having an off year or do they usually start slow?
August 21st, 2011 at 4:25 PM ^
They don't have many open spots so this will be a small class for them. They're doing very well with the guys they've gotten so far though.
August 21st, 2011 at 11:04 PM ^
YALOL Nebraska's class looks like absolute trash. Welcome to the B1G
August 21st, 2011 at 11:26 PM ^
Trash is a little harsh. It's only 6 guys, but 4 of those 6 have 4 stars from more than one service, and McMullen and Thurston are both guys we would have loved to have. And then they have two generic recruits, but who doesn't? I wouldn't get cocky about that class just yet, it's August.
August 21st, 2011 at 8:47 PM ^
Penn State had 6 commits last year for the longest time (check out the link for the 11-28-10 class rankings: http://mgoblog.com/diaries/big-ten-recruiting-class-rankings-11-28-10), but still ended up with 16 in their class, and actually based on averages alone was more like the 4th or 5th best class in the Big Ten - certainly a respectable finish given the small class size (http://mgoblog.com/diaries/big-ten-recruiting-class-rankings-2-6-11).
I would expect nothing less from Nebraska this year.
August 22nd, 2011 at 8:51 PM ^
Crazy how 7 of our 14 commits in those rankings from November aren't even on the current team with the news of Posada.
August 21st, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
Who is going to do these when Tim leaves:(??
August 21st, 2011 at 5:24 PM ^
I don't know if this is an unusual class or unusual year, but there are not many RB's signed up anywhere. Ohio has a couple of commitments, but across the board, I don't see a very deep class. The RB ratings are not very exciting either. Slim Pickings, or do the RB's wait to commit?
August 21st, 2011 at 6:59 PM ^
Interesting observation. RB is not a very deep position in the Midwest this year, a handful of good ones in Ohio - the kid we offered at FB who went to Tenn, his name escapes me, Will Mahone hasn't committed anywhere yet but will likely be one of the teams on this list, plus the two kids the buckeyes have.
Vonte Jackson at Wisco is a good back, and don't sleep on Houma. He's gonna be really good I think.
But all in all, I agree it's pretty light so far.
August 21st, 2011 at 7:43 PM ^
If we had to chose between just one recruiting service, which one is the best? I know its better to look at all four to get a more well-rounded picture of the classes, but I'm curious as to which one is the most reliable of them all. Any thoughts?
August 21st, 2011 at 8:16 PM ^
247 is new, so no one really knows about them. ESPN was shitty, but has gotten better over the years. Several have done comparisons between Rivals and Scout, all of them with an endpoint of predicting NFL draft position. Rivals is marginally better than Scout in that position. But then again, I feel that Rivals focuses more on measurables, just like the NFL, so that would make sense.
As far as I know, nobody has done a comparison looking at college production, such as all-american/all-conference etc., and I think that would be very interesting. With all the different systems in college, it could be very different.
