Big Ten Recruiting Class Rankings 12-11-11

Submitted by Ace on

Michigan loses a commit, Indiana loses two, and otherwise there isn't much going on this week. The most notable commitment is four-star DE Faith Ekakitie going to Iowa. Action since last rankings:

11-28-11: David Cooper decommits from Indiana.
12-6-11: Dante Blackmon decommits from Indiana. Northwestern picks up Andrew Scanlan.
12-7-11: Iowa picks up Faith Ekakitie.
12-8-11: Anthony Standifer decommits from Michigan. Nebraska picks up Thomas Brown.
12-11-11: Iowa picks up Kevin Buford.

Overall I'm very pleased with this weekly report, but this is something I've wondered for a long time.

Is there any explanation as to how each class is ranked? If it's, say, # of recruits * avg avg, it would be interesting to see that number as well. When I see a sorted chart I prefer to see the number it's being sorted by.

I've been wondering this too. The best example from the top of the chart is Ohio. Ceteris paribus, do they pass ND with one more five star? Do they drop below PSU if they lose Dunn? Also, with the size of our current class (isn't OSU primed for a small class?) plus the makeup we have so far, are we untouchable at number one barring a mass exodus? Is it even possible for ND/OSU to pass us?

Not knowing how many more players each school could take, it certainly seems possible, given that:

1) ND and OSU probably have a higher percentage of open slots compared to Michigan

2) Most undecideds at this point tend to be 4/5 stars

You could easily see a scenario where ND and/or OSU raise their average to over 3.8 stars.

Would it be reasonable to expect him to pick up a 4th star in the final rankings due to the season accomplishments and state awards?

The ESPN 2-ball certainly should take a hike upward.

I don't see him getting a 4th star. While he did have fantastic stats, he got them by running the ball 40 times per game and being really fast - he doesn't have close to all of the tools necessary to carry over that success to the next level. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a 3rd star from ESPN, though.

Any news on Schutt potentially flipping from PSU to Ohio?  I read that he apparently wanted to change after his visit this weekend.  Seems like a nice get for Ohio if it happens, but of course this is internet chatter.

However you spell his last name, his kid is a three star with Penn State. I remember seeing him running around At summer camps when his dad was ruining the Lions. Would love to see him start at the Big House and get crushed.

For decommits is there a way to include them in the tables but maybe in a different color? That way their rankings and spot in the class can be seen instead of having to go back and look them up.

Thanks

seems like they should be ahead of northwestern on quality, even if behind minnesota on quantity (which also raises the minnesota vs northwestern question).
