Big Ten Recruiting Class Rankings 10-30-11

Submitted by Ace on

Very little in terms of commitments this week, but there's some movement in the middle of the rankings as the recruiting services get around to rating more players—Indiana's comeuppance for losing Gunner Kiel ends up coming one week later as a result. Action since last rankings:

10-21-11: Minnesota picks up James Gillum.
10-23-11: Purdue picks up Greg Latta.

That's it. Two JuCo recruits. Thanks for making my job easy this week, B1G.

*ESPN doesn't rate JuCos, so Isaac Fruechte and James Gillum (Minnesota), Darius Stroud and Jacarri Alexander (Indiana), Steffon Martin, Devin Smith, and Greg Latta (Purdue), and Zaire Anderson (Nebraska) are counted as unranked recruits for the sake of consistency (trust me, it makes sense when you look at the spreadsheet).
^The average of the average rankings of the four recruiting services (aka the previous four columns). The figure is calculated based on the raw numbers and then rounded, so the numbers above may not average out exactly.

I haven't been sure what to do with Cardale Jones, who committed to Ohio State in the 2011 class and but decided to go to prep school for a year before heading to Columbus, but since he's listed in this class on three of the recruiting services it's probably time to include him here. One clarification: Scout lists him as unrated (because he's a prep school player) if you look at Ohio State's current class, but they had him as a three-star last year—I'm going with the latter ranking, and I'm doing the same with 247, which had him as a four-star last year but is the one service that didn't re-list him as a 2012 recruit.

The Boilermakers add JuCo defensive end Greg Latta, who is unranked across the board. Anthony Brown gets two stars from Scout and ESPN, while five players—Cameron Cermin, Steffon Martin, Devin Smith, Carlos Cavajal, and Cameron Posey—all get three-star ratings from 247. The strength of these new ratings allow Purdue to leapfrog both Northwestern and Indiana in the rankings.

#8 Northwestern - 17 Commits

Terrance Brown S CA NR 2 2 3

No new commits for the Wildcats. Terrance Brown picks up two stars from ESPN and three from 247, who also give three-star ratings to Joseph Jones and Jaylen Prater and two stars to Dwight White. Thanks to the bump in ratings, Northwestern passes Indiana on the big board.

#9 Indiana - 18 Commits

No change for the Hoosiers. You snooze you lose, I guess (also, losing the one blue-chip recruit you have will ultimately hurt you, believe it or not).

#10 Minnesota - 22 Commits
Name Position State Rivals Scout ESPN 24/7

Scott Ekpe DT TX 2 2 NR 3
Isaac Fruechte WR MN 2 2 JC 2
Barrington Morris LB FL NR 2 NR 2
Tyren Hills CB LA NR 2 NR 2

The Gophers pick up JuCo running back James Gillum. Tyren Hills gets two stars from Scout and 247. If ESPN even gets around to rating, oh, a third of Minnesota's class, they could easily jump up a couple spots in the rankings.

Ace, since Jeremy Clark is no longer "gray-shirting" and now joining the 2012 class, shouldn't he be added to this list? You may have addressedd this in a previous update, but I'm not sure.

(a) As others have said, Michigan's numbers need to be updated to include Jeremy Clark

(b) Nebraska needs to get to work. I wonder if Bo Pelini knows something the rest of us don't???
