Big Ten Recruiting Class Rankings 10-16-11

Submitted by Ace on

Despite the fact that I didn't even post rankings last week (sorry about that—life stuff came up), barely anything happened in recruiting outside of Purdue adding a few commits and jumping Minnesota in the standings. Action since last rankings:

10-2-11: Purdue picks up Dion Witty.

10-3-11: Purdue picks up Cameron Cermin.

10-10-11: Purdue picks up Cameron Posey.

10-12-11: Northwestern picks up Traveon Henry.

Our wave of commits usually shows up late in the season, often after the bowls. Looking back at the commit dates in the Rivals database, on this day each of the last four years NU had 10, 8, 11, and 10 known committments. So 7 is lagging a bit, but certainly within historical tolerances. (Coincidentally, three years ago NU received two committments on this day - if I'd written this post yesterday, that 11 would be a 9.)

"WELL RECRUITING RANKINGS DONT MATTER AT MSU WE COACH 'EM UP AND GET THEM TO PLAY GOOD!"

The Recruiting Rankings above makes me feel very nice after a rather unpleasant weekend.

Since 2007, The number of 4-star-and-above commitments that Illinois has pulled in are as follows: 7,6,7,1,1,0.

Is it safe to assume that Ron Zook stopped paying recruits after 2009?

2nd question: Ive been out of the loop, what's Dorial Green-Beckam's standing with us?

Arik Armstead after decommiting from USC:

"I have my visit to Notre Dame this weekend and I'm visiting Alabama (Nov. 4)," he said. "I'm also looking at Cal, Washington and Michigan for my last few visits, but I think after word gets out that I've de-committed, I think a few more schools will come calling as well and I'm definitely open to that."

While it's a long shot, it's good to see another stud West coaster look straight to Michigan when considering where he wants to go to school.  For the top flight west coast kids that want to explore other areas, Alabama/Florida seem to be the go--to SEC schools, and all we can ask for is that Michigan is the go-to Big 10 school.

Huskers class is THAT bad? Really surprising. Maybe those top recruits aren't excited to play far from home. I wonder how schools like Okie St and Texas Tech are doing with kids that would've gone to Nebraska. There have got to be some schools picking up the fallout. Pellini should have kids wanting to play for him.
