"The University of Illinois is also in turmoil. The university sports an Interim Chancellor, an Interim Athletic Director, and an Interim Football Coach; the game will be played at Soldier Field, making this an Illini Interim Home Game."
dont know how that happened
I think Mgochina likes it.
It gets my vote!
Its pretty cool, possible tweek it to make it perfect. Gets my vote !
This is amazing. Is that Comic Sans font?
Dan Gilbert approves.
I'd add "you'r a baller"
Otherwise very professional
If it doesnt make it on this site, it will be my facebook banner. the blood, sweat, and tears you put into this work have not gone unnoticed.
It's too busy. Trey's face is basically missing. And so is whoever is in the helmet.
sorry, not a big fan.
I like the current font and the boarders top and bottom... So I'll pull for those being maintained. Until fall camp, I think it's only fair that it be a basketball-only banner since we had Denard up there for the basketball season. Maybe something based one of the photos of this, or the shot that set it up (photo credit to New York Daily News):
I'm not a fan of Blake being on the banner. His 19% career 3pt shooting just doesn't do it for me.
Umm... I don't really know how to respond to this. It's Trey Burke's banner - it's the signature moment of the basketball season. Teammates screaming in euphoria with him is cool by me - especially graduating seniors.
I reallllly like this actually, but Mr Controversialidea set the bar wayy too high above. sorry dude
generally want current players. I know Trey is Trey and his time here was over quickly, but that's the modus operandi.
If we're replacing Denard because he is leaving, then shouldn't the same logic apply for Burke?
I'm just waiting for the requisite vote for The Naked Guy.
But hey, that's the beauty of art. Usuaslly a huge fan of your stuff, keep up the good work.
But something about the letter geometry...It just isn't flattering.
in the lettering are hard to see. I don't like the MGOBLOG font either ... it's too "fat and rounded" but I realize it was chosen so that you could place images in it. Current players would be better, but I don't like showing players given the whole EA Sports/O'Bannon thing and also, well...
Man, I LOVED the last two banners for their simplicity. The Denard prayer pose is amazing, and I also liked the subtlety of Hoke holding the Michigan helmet while he was having his picture taken with Dave Brandon. THIS is what a web banner should be -- sort of one step more complex than your logo in terms of reflecting your "axiom" (who you are, what you do) but nothing more, nothing less. Cramming coach and player photos into the letter to "prove" that M is a football AND basketball school is trying too hard. Not sure if it was you or Sixzero who did the last two banner but in general I like both of your work. Hope this feedback helps!
Bring back the banner design contest!! One of the more fun off-season events I can remember around here...
is not worth enough words to be a diary
... center the current MGoBlog letters and put an empty football helmet on one side and the half-court Block M from Crisler on the other....
Wow. Lots of responses. I appreciate the candor of the dislikes. I am most certainly not advocating changing the banner for good (I think I spelled that out clearly in the post), but I wanted to get a forum going.
I will agree that maybe this should have been a normal thread instead of a diary. Forgive me, I'm used to creating diaries for the backgrounds and didn't think it through.
Anyway, I like the banner as is, but as much as I love Denard (so much), I think the banner should change. The reason I ha Trey on this was because I thought a short spotlight should be given his accomplishments with the basketball team.
I know this is a football-first board, and I'm a much bigger football fan, but I really lived this basketball season.
Anyway, mods, feel free to kick this o a thread if enough people are not happy with it being a diary.
about board vs diary and then 1 or maybe 2 people pos'd it. I think you're OK here.
That being said, I'm in the too busy in the letters camp. What else ya got?
The only critique I have is I am not a huge fan of the font, perhaps something more crisp? Less rounded edges, it looks too cartoony for my taste. Other than that I do like it.
I think it could be cool if you centered the 'MGOBLOG' part and put the halfcourt 'M' on one side and the block 'M' from the football field on the other side. That could possibly be too busy, but that's immediately what I 'wanted' when I saw your design.
Great work, thanks for this!
I think the "HAIL" book looks really professional and polished. I don't know if it can be done, but have a football and/or basketball player over the top of MGoBlog, like Lewan is over "HAIL."
Anything that can commemorate Trey Burke please.
Have a bunch of approved banners from both sports. That way you can feature a bunch of different athletes and coaches within the structure of the banner logo/brand.
I wonder if there's some rules against student-athletes being on the banner (yes, we all know it is Denard on the banner, but I feel it's just perfectly set so that his likeness is not featured).
I know MGoBlog received cease and desist's from UM for using the block M logo and/or the winged helmet, so there are rules. This ain't 'Nam.
True. I'll work with the mindset that no likenesses are allowed with my next attempt.
I had whipped this up a while back ... but now one of these guys has left for geener pastures, & the other one is injured :/
I suck at embedding - here's a link for embiggening the banner: http://i.imgur.com/kaw0nK0.png
That's what I was worried about! I didn't do this ... right?
Denard, Burke, Lewan, Upton, Hokepoint
