All Maize Jersey Prediction

Submitted by TheTruth on

Fellow Wolverine Fans:

I am coming out to make a bold prediction that an all maize jersey is not far from a reality. We have them in basketball, hockey and baseball already. WVU under RichRod had more than just a home and away jersey with one of them being an all yellow. I predict that when the boys take the field this year in Columbus, they will be donning the elusive all maize jersey.

I personally would like to see the all maize uniform for special away games only (ND, OSU, MSU).

Reasons for the all maize jerseys:

  • they would look good
  • they would signal the new age has arrived
  • maize is an awesome color
  • it would add a new dimension to the program

Reasons not for the all maize jersey:

  • old time fans and alumn would freak
  • the bright color moving so fast would cause vomiting
  • we could start heading down a path that would lead us to looking like Oregon

I am curious how others feel about this possiblity/idea. I do think it will happen and although I am predicting it to be for OSU I wouldn't be surprised if it waited until next year's MSU game or even if they showed up in them for ND this year.

it won't happen this year. i'm not totally opposed to the idea but i'm sure i'm in the minority on that one. i think if they just ripped off the hockey uniforms it could look cool, but totally weird. away games only. and only if they win a NC or two.

I like them in basketball and hockey. I'm not a big fan of them in basketball. In football? I don't want to try it. If I'm not mistaken, there is some rule that visiting teams have to wear white jerseys (unless they're playing at one of the freak schools like LSU). If that is the case, we'd have to wear the all-maize look at home. We should never mess with the home uniform.

i assume there are going to be redesigned jerseys for all other sports. as far as im concerned, the fewer changes they make to basketball, hockey, baseball etc. jerseys, the better, because all those teams looked pretty sharp. when will we be able to see/potentially purchase the uniforms for other sports??

Yeah, sorry but no. No need to go Oregonize outselves here. That said, didn't Michigan have all white road uniforms (I think there might have been a yellow stripe down the sides) in the early 70's? Or have they always had the same white/maize scheme?

Football teams with uniforms like that remind me of slow pitch softball teams. For some reason they look ok in other sports, but football is different.

It seems from the comments that the rules wouldn't allow it, but I think a maize jersey would be sweet for the rivalry away games. But not really flashy with tons of stripes and lightling bolts n stuff. Just the plain maize with a blue number, and maybe some shoulder stripes. And I think it would look pretty good with blue pants. All-maize would look really bad.

If they ever did create a maize uniform, could they wear them for a bowl game? I think it could look very nice if they didn't try to be too creative and also wore blue pants. Either way I can't wait to see the new team in their new unis on the field for the first time.

I love it! Maize with blue pants. All Maize, maybe not so much. But I'm still thinking about it, so don't quote me.

The Maize jersey doesn't work with the Maize pants. and I don't see any way that we are going to be sporting any pant color other than Maize. I saw the pictures of the all-white duds from the 70's... God awful. There is something that just looks plain bad when a team is in one color, be it PSU, MSU, or Texas in all white, or any of these programs that go with all black or red.

what if they made a uniform that was the exact opposite color scheme of the home uniforms? in other words, everything that is maize would be blue, and everything blue would be maize, including the helmets. i think that could be pretty cool. they could do it on a "maize out" day.

so the jersey is less sacred than the helmet...i agree completely. but is it really that big a deal? i'm not saying change the design. i understand UM doesn't need gimmicks, but it might be cool for one game a year. too cheesy?

... would look sweet. Plus, a maize jersey in late August/early September would be a helluva lot cooler temperature wise than the blue one. Why not make the opponent deal with the heat in their dark jersey on those late summer Saturday afternoons?!?

I cast my vote against it. It's pathetic when ND dons their green jerseys to lose. For us, the helmets are for intimidation. The threads are all business.

Oh man that would be so ugly. Our uniforms are not only "fine" the way they are, they are awesome. I like them, a lot. We do not need to, and should not, change the jerseys at all.

i personally would like them we could wear them for the big away games (ND MSU OSU and possibly WISC) and we could wear them for Maize out games...i think they would look good!

I see how that could work, I would personally like to see us move to a hyper-white uni. White jerseys with maize numbers trimmed in blue, and white pants...ooooooooo young biscuit!
