2010 All Big 10 Teams

Tim didn't include the full All Big-10 Team for 2010 as voted on by the coaches.  Denard is an honorable mention, presumably because only the coaches vote for the whole team while the media also vote on Player of the Year.  Congrats to all, including David Molk (1st Team), Roy Roundtree, Jonas Mouton, and Mike Martin (2nd Team), and Steve Shilling (Honorable Mention).

Also, Ryan Kerrigan took home Defensive POY, Gabe Carimi (Wisconsin) was voted Lineman of the Year and his teammate James White is Freshman of the Year.

that people have a certain conception of what a qb is.  They think denard is really good, but even though he plays qb, they don't think he's a qb unless he can drop back and pass.

What defines a QB? Taking snaps? Decision making? Passing? If it's decision making, most of his TDs come on designed QB Iso runs or QB Iso PA passes. If it is passing, he hasn't shown himself to be very accurate. If it's taking snaps, you could have LaMichael James take snaps and run for 300 yards again, and that wouldn't make him a QB.

Honestly, I think this reflects more on the award system than anything. It just shows that they need to give awards away based on defined criteria rather than perceived criteria. There isn't a 1st team spinner position, but if there was, I'd say that Stevie Brown would have won it last year.

I also think this says more about Denard in the sense that he might not be the best at one particular thing, but he is among the best at multiple things and together that makes him the best player.

What I want to know is why the defensive line isn't broken down like the offensive line? Four defensive ends on the first team and four tackles on the second team? Why not 2 ends, 2 tackles per team? The only team I ever recall running four defensive ends at once was the Giants the year they won the Superbowl, and even then they only did that against heavy passing teams or in obvious passing situations.

On that note, why do all of these "All-X Team" rosters always assume a 4-3 defense (and seemingly a 12-man offense)? I want to see an All-Big 10 3-3-5 defense, dammit!

MIchigan had one first-teamer and one second-teamer, in adition to Denard being the POY.  That pretty much validates what RR supporters have said all along: Michigan doesn't yet have enough players to compete with the top of the conference.

I can't wait until next year when the players coming back will all be one year older, bigger, smarter, and more experienced.  When a lot of Michigan players start to show up in the all conference team again, the wins will follow: not, as RR detractors think, vice-versa.

1 first teamer 3 second teamers and 3 honorable mentioned.  (coaches had 1 HM)

Based on what Bilema said he probably didn't have Denard on ballot and that bumped him down to 2nd team Coaches.

Also I think these team awards take in to account team records.  If they pulled out a game or two more they would have got more recognition.  That is just how it is with these awards.

I came to the conclusion long ago that anything that was the result of a vote (politics excluded) wasn't worth feeling good/bad about.  That includes all Big Ten first team, the Heisman, American Idol, 10 Best Dressed, etc. blah, blah, blah.

Now, all time leading rusher for QB or first to surpass rushing/passing yards, that is something quantifiable and doesn't require a vote. IMHO.

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.  Now, back to our regular programing.
