Notre Dame 31, Michigan 0

Tire Fire

Michigan had never been shut out in the history of the Michigan/Notre Dame rivalry. Michigan hadn’t been shut out in any game since Ronald Reagan’s first term. Neither of those things is true right now. In fact, nothing is true but the alcohol.

Football is strange sometimes. Michigan outgained Notre Dame 289-282. If you find comfort in this fact, I applaud your zen-like quality, or the quality of your alcohol. Devin Gardner turned the ball over four times. Matt Wile missed two field goals badly. Devin Funchess may be hurt. Raymon Taylor may be hurt. Jabrill Peppers was too hurt to play. On a day in which the Big Ten looked terrible, Michigan’s performance stands atop the flaming heap as the worst of the day.

This game will cause many questions to be asked. For now, I can provide you with only one answer.

No, "the worst moment in recent Michigan football history" is the posting of this thread at the top of the page spoiling the game for those of us who haven't seen it yet.  There needs to be a consideration for those that don't have live or 5 minute delay, but hours delay or more.  There are ways to post topics and "news" without blowing and spoiling it out of the water for the rest of us.  Thanks !

Seriously? You didn't think that something on MGoBlog - a front page post, a board thread, etc. - might give away details about the game that just happened? Why visit the site?

You should be grateful that you got to rip off that bandaid so quickly. The rest of us endured a lot more frustration and pain last night.

That might be the worst game I've EVER seen out of Michigan.  Let's start talking next head coach please.  No way Hoke recovers from this unless he pulls a Carr and wins every game after this.

I'm gonna go with Oregon at home in 2006 as worse.  But that could be because I was in the stadium for that game.  This one was viewed from my recliner where I started taking Bacardi 151 through an IV midway through the 3rd quarter, so that may have taken the edge off.  A little.

I've been watching Michigan football since 1982.  This was the worst loss.  Period.

Worse than Oregon 2007.  Worese than Syracuse/Donovan McNabb 1998, worse than iowa/ Brad Banks 2002.  Worse than the previous shutout against Iowa 1984 (Harbaugh was hurt and was out).  Worse than the RR losses.

It was worse because it was a total failure all aspects of the game - Offense, Defense, Special Teams, Coaching, with no evidence of any improvement in sight.

The Horror was bad, but at least the team fought back and had a shot to win.

This was total fail from start to finish. With a coaching staff that hasn't proven they can win, particularly on the road.

Fun fact: We're 3-7 in our last ten games, featuring wins against Indiana, Northwestern, and Appalachian State. 3-7. Think about that.

May not have been the worst loss but to me it's second to The Horror. To have such an awful looking performance 4 years into Hokes tenure leaves me totally hopeless that this staff will get us back to a top 25 (let alone top 10) program on a consistent basis. 3 solid to very good recruiting classes and still laying eggs like this game. I was thinking 8-4 record prior to the season and still think that's possible. I don't Realky care about the next 3 games and probably won't watch until Sparty.

The thing that makes the Horror a lesser loss from a competitive aspect is because Michgian wasn't even trying (until too late).

Michigan was trying all it could against ND but just had nothing to give.  They were dominated as never before.

The Horror will always win on shock value, but the ND game was a far bigger competitive loss.

Can continue to dump millions into the many athletic programs and facility update plans it has while allowing this to continue in their largest revenue sport is beyond me.

While the Oline along with an impressive ND defense had much to do with Devin's struggles tonight, I sure hope Morris gets some reps this season so he's ready to play in 2015 under what I can only hope is a new coaching staff that has a clue and cares more about coaching than trying to act like the players' cool uncle.
