Your Preseason Blogpoll Comment Count

Brian

Your chalky top ten:

Rank Team PPB
1 Florida (99) 24.8
2 Texas 23.4
3 Southern Cal 22.1
4 Oklahoma 22.1
5 Alabama 19.8
6 Ohio State 17.7
7 Penn State 17.7
8 LSU 16.0
9 Virginia Tech 15.9
10 Oklahoma State 15.8

Florida got 99 of the 101 first place votes, and the two that didn't rest gently on the Tebow Child's ticklish nose were handed out in polls that either ranked the whole thing on schedule strength and only schedule strength or voted Utah #1 because that's where they finished last year(?).

You will, however, note that the blog-folk managed to exclude potential flash-in-the-pan Ole Miss from the top ten. It wasn't by much—they're #11—but a three spot difference in a preseason poll represents a fairly large difference of opinion.

The rest of the wonder can be found at CBS Sports. Roundtable #1 comes up Monday on Hey Jenny Slater.

I am interested in hearing Brian (or anyone's for that matter) opinion on the Boise blogger (One Nation Under Boise on SBNation), who basically voted last year's AP top 25 as his preliminary poll.

Of course, that would make Utah only #2 in his poll.

But, still, thanks for the effort, dude. I hope is ballot evolves into something better.

I thought it was a cop out. He seemed so stoked about being invited into the poll and then put zero effort into his first ballot.

I read the post on his blog over the weekend, and I was going to post it the forum over here for discussion. But, I didnt want to steal any thunder from your debut poll, or get the year started by ambushing one of your voters.

Mostly, though, I was so up in the air about whether or not I should label it OT or not that I decided to forget about it.

Take note all the extracurricular awards can be found on the CBS site. That's always been my favorite part of Blogpoll anyway.

If the CK Curse takes Notre Dame down the first week, what do we think that would do for them coming into the game we actually care about? Would they come in like gangbusters and blow Michigan off the field, or would they go 2007 Michigan post-Game That Shall Not Be Mentioned and lay down an epic bed-shitting?

Brian, I disagree with your move to trim polls that are more than 5 points off the average. I like the Blogpoll precisely because it isn't a standard poll -- it lets voters be more creative and go against groupthink.

Furthermore, I don't think the margin is large enough. In a season where a lot of teams are bunched together or in the first few weeks of the season, you might have significantly different polls.

It's not "polls that are more than 5 points off the average." First off those seem to be exceedingly rare anyway. Second, the actual criterion is: "if your ballot wins Mr. Bold by five or more points I'm removing it from that week's poll." Meaning you have to be five points off the next-craziest ballot. During the season last year Mr. Bold was almost always 3.X points off, so you'd have to be like 8.X points off to get booted, which is an insane number. Check out Tomahawk Nation's ballot to see what it takes to get that far off.
