Yakety Sax Muppets Comment Count

Brian

Okay, probably undeserving of muppets. But this probably popped into existence five seconds after the tenth turnover of the game and must be deployed:

Hurray for monsoons!

They came to play today. When you can count on one hand instead of two plus a foot the amount of big plays given up on a normal saturday, that certainly gives your team some confidence. Also, who was that #4 guy dressed up as Cam Gordon??

Sounds like this game was a near-death experience all by itself.

I wonder if Michigan has ever turned the ball over 5 times in two straight games but won both regardless. That's a pretty bizarre occurrence.

Okay, I know they're good kids, and extremely hardworking, but Gallon consistently makes poor decisions on returns; letting the ball roll and losing yardage, running it out of the endzone and not making the 20, having the ball bounce off of him, signaling for a fair catch then running. Everyone makes mistakes, but his mental play makes it seem like the guy isn't coached. He scares the hell out of me on every return.

And Rogers doing laterals on the last play of the half. C'mon, when you're relatively deep in your side of the field: knock the ball down, or if you're going to intercept, don't be throwing it around in the rain!!

That's basic last play stuff.

You can forgive lack of physical ability. The mental errors though, they're less forgivable, like that time that transvestite fooled me. But I didn't have a coach that night, or a season to prepare.

I always like to see a little rugby introduced into my football.  Next we'll have the qb throwing in to the WRs at the  lineout and the linebackers feeding the ball crooked into the scrums.  Also: Could anybody imagine having Lewan as a tighthead prop?  Dude would be turning scrums and hating donkeys forever.

But seriously, I'm okay iwth it.  It means they WANTED TO WIN.  I like seeing that kind of dedication to winning. I approve of doing everything you can to score.  The only reason we're not saying what a great decision it was is because they didn't go all the way for the TD.

I mean, if you don't take some risk you'll never make any plays but half-back isos and screen passes, and nobody wants to watch that.  Well, except Joe Paterno.

with Brian's comments re monsoons.  If good weather, Michigan wins by 3 TDs.  A very good overall effort, especially by the offense, all things considered.

ok, so my game preview was:

no turnovers = muppets / turnovers = ennui

after a game like that one, the only thing that would make sense is Henri the otter in muppet form...yeah that would be just about right

Muppets are welcome at any time after any victory.  I have at least temporarily stopped bemoaning the lack of aesthetic in any W; it will probably return, but for now victory by any means tastes sweeter than ambrosia.

Also - I would be very cautious about the future use (if any) of hypnocat.  10 TO's and a driving rainstorm just initially come to mind.  That's a wickedly powerful feline...

When the dogs bite,

When the bees sting,

When I'm feeling sad,

I simply remember my favorite things,

And then I don't feel so bad....

And because you can't have one without the other...

Ahhh. 7-3.

Personally? Break out the Muppets in any fashion after the offense scores more than 60 or the DEFENSE HOLDS THE OTHER TEAM WITHOUT AN OFFENSIVE SCORE

Downright vintage at times out there

Does anyone know the status of Mike Martin? He was not on the injury report yet did not play. We need him to compete with the Wisky run attack.

He's been injured for a few weeks now, first spraining one ankle during the MSU game and another a couple weeks ago.   Hopefully RR was just resting him this week.

I think he was listed as probable on the injury report.

matter. Here's something to take your mind off any 'links'...

24. (NR) Dr. Phillips (Orlando, Fla.), 9-0

Dr. Phillips set a state record for points scored in the regular season by a 6A team in its 56-13 route of Freedom (Orlando), highlighted by Demetrius Hart's 232 yards and three scores. On the season, the Panthers have scored 473 points and allowed a mere 61.

Yep, that's right. That ol' Hart fella signed with us not long ago...yippeeeeee! Go Blue!

and Michigan's old standards - Temptation and the Hawaiian War Chant.

A few years ago, Brian or someone else discovered Muppet versions of Temptation and the Hawaiian War Chant on the internet (these were created during the '70's for the Muppet Show, in theory because a Michigan grad was on the production team of the show.)

So we now celebrate big wins on MGoBlog with Temptation and the Hawaiian War Chant - Muppet style.

If anyone finds Phineas & Ferb doing Hail to the Victors, we'll post that too.

Ugly win certainly, yet there is a smile on my face, a cigar in my hand, and 14 year old single malt scotch in my glass.

Hooray for finding a way to win when we're not on top of our game.....that's progress too.

They have looked much more aggressive the last 2 games and seem to be playing faster.  I don't know if it will make a difference in the next 2 games, but it bodes well for next year.

The hand-wringing going on in some corners of the UM world seem silly.  We won by 11 in a sloppy, sloppy game in which we turned it over 5 times.  Yes, we play like that, and we get the doors blown off against us by Wisconsin.

But many really really really good UM teams won a few games every year in very ugly fashion, against very bad teams.   Obviously, when your team has established itself as good (say, UM in 2006), the narrative after a sloppy win (Ball State) is "looking ahead."  (and obviously, ugly wins against bad teams was not a unique phenomenon for good UM teams - see Oregon v. Cal, last night).

Moral is: this UM team is not good yet.  Which makes the last 2 wins that much better.  It's a team that has come nowhere near reaching its potential (Hi, it's me, ThWard, less Turnovers please, kthanx).  Thus, 7 wins?  Bring on the muppets without apology, Brian.

One of Bo's weaknesses was dropping at least one game each year to an unranked nobody when we were in the top 10.  Purdue 1976 and Minnesota 1977 come to mind immediately.  Going back over the yearly records I could find plenty of examples.  I'm not going to hold Rich to a higher standard than Bo.  It's college football, this stuff happens regularly.

The conditions made offense very tough yesterday, and the defense stepped up and did the job.  They played with a fire and confidence I've not yet seen this year.  It's starting to look like their decision trees are finally starting to sink in and get intuitive.

These last two games are going to be a lot of fun.  We're overmatched on paper in both of them, but have a good chance to take at least one of them.  Go Blue!

I'll take a yackety sax win over tears of unfathomable sadness any day.

Wow, after saying that, I realize how depressing that is. This is Michigan football, and I'm settling for yackety sax. Sigh...
