The wrestling team performed excellent tonight in defeating the Lions 31-6. Zeerip upset Vallimont 3-1 I believe. The team is really looking good, hopefully it carries into the Big Ten tournament.
Wrestling team destroys Penn state.
They wrestled unbelievable today. PSU only won 2 matches, an 11-9 decision by Pataky over Watts, which is not a bad match for Watts, and a 5-3 decision of Beaudry by Jenkins, which is...wow....really surprising for Beaudry. Not sure how hurt Jenkins is, but still, damn.
I'm not sure what Coach McFarland told them between yesterday and today, but whatever it is, I hope it sticks. They wrestle that good they can beat everyone they face in the big ten. Also, they don't wrestle Iowa in the duals, sorry, they can't beat Iowa...
We don't have the depth to beat Ohio State or Iowa in a dual. But I absolutely think we have three top wrestlers (NCAA relative) in Russell, Luke and Todd. Also, who knows, Zeeripp or Hines may ctach fire and qualify. If we keep wrestling like that, things look good for the next month and a half.
So did we lose ot Ohio State yesterday then.
Could have kept it a little closer if Watts hadn't gotten pinned, but even if he would have beaten his kid, all it would have done was forced Palmer to go for the major, which he probably could have gotten if he decided to work Beaudry on his feet more. It wasn't a bad showing though, and Hynes hit some kid in a leg cradle, so it was worth the price of admission.
I think he almost would be expected to qualify by now. I think he'll be as high as the 3 seed going into the big ten tourney. I'm trying to figure out how qualifying works right now...I might write up something on it later before the BTN championships to try and explain it. It doesn't sound simple...
It's nice to see that there are a few other wrestling fans out there.
A third seed seems too high for Hynes. Despite a nice win over Kinser, based on the entire season, I still think that he ends up behind Kinser, Poeta, Johnstone, Welch, and Safratowich. So I would say he's looking at a sixth seed. The NCAA qualifying seems much more complicated than in year's past, but it looks to me that Hynes would need to make some noise at the Big Ten tourney to qualify.
