It felt like a death march going back up to my man cave to watch the second half. But oh, so worth it.

I have never boo'd a non professional team (of my own)and I hate to see it no matter how shitty we play.

Also, when we were up at the end and playing defense, the TV showed many folks in the stands biting their fingernails and standing with crossed arms. I realize much of this is our history and waiting for bad things to happen, but I wish these people would make some noise at times like that.

I know we have talked noise and atmosphere ad nauseum, but I don't think these people care any less about UM football, I just think it is our culture as a fanbase and I don't know if it will ever change.

Overall, just a sweet comeback!

It wasn't reflected in what ABC/ESPN was showing. They would show Threet on the sideline emploring people to make noise and then cut to the crowd showing some jackass with his fist in his mouth.

Glad to hear it was a zoo. It should have been.

not sure how it began to be associated, but Temptation and War Chant have been associated in the band for years.  There's the whole "You can't have one without the other" and they are always played in entirety TOGETHER in post game because they are HUGE drumline songs.  If you haven't stayed after a game to watch these be performed with the whole band, they are just awesome and you should stay next time.

Just got back to my hotel from the game. I have NO voice left. None. I'm exhausted, but happy.

So many people in my section left at halftime. Ha. Suckers. Good riddance.

Just finished watching Penn state and Illinois. Daryll Clark is jacked, guy can scramble and throw well at the same time. I couldn't help but imagine him running our offense. Anyways, I think we have a shot against Juice, but probably will lose against JoePa.

My heart sank when that pass was completed for what seemed to be a successful 2-point conversion.  But then the flags came for ineligible receiver and the ensuing play was incomplete, thank God.  It reminded me of when Rutgers upset Louisville.  Judge Ito missed the FG, but he got a second try and he nailed it.  Wow today was awesome.

I noticed that too.  In hindsight (since it didn't cause us to lose) I'm glad it didn't get called because it wasn't excessive, and then everyone would be talking about how the refs gave us the win.

...when my old man and I were walking back to our hotel, we passed McGuffie walking towards downtown on State street. I waived and said great game and he said thanks.

Then he hurdled me. It was kind of awesome.

For someone with a handle of "enjoy life" he's finding a shitload to bitch about in upsetting the #9 team in the nation, coming back from a 19 point deficit.

"I give all the credit in the world to Michigan to come back after hearing all the things that I heard being yelled at them at halftime."   ~Brett Bielema

Absolutely disgusted to hear this.

Those of us who see problems in the current situation and provide suggestions for improvement are often called negative!

About the clock management. M takes over on it's 10 with 2:29 left in the half. We will get the ball in the second half kickoff.

2 runs and an int -- W gets the ball and makes it 19-0 on a field goal. Bad calls (were we really going 90 yards?) Bad clock management (with the 40 second clock each running play should eat up 50 seconds -- including time to run the play). The 2 running plays and int only took 1:14 or 74 seconds off the clock.

BTW, I have sat through more M games (started when I was 10 when Bump was the coach) than most and if anyone thinks that was not one of the worst 1st half performances in the history of M, you just weren't paying attention.

doesnt make you negative, your first posts after one of the biggest wins in recent memory, in which you start by talking about bad coaching, makes you negative.

Im glad you've watched a ton of games all these years, guess that overrides all the many years of coaching experience i have, and all the run-ins with fans like you i have tried to forget...  I dont really care who you are, or what you think, you can think that RR is an idiot if you want,  just dont expect it to be met with a lot of fan fare when fans are trying to celebrate..

Enjoy Life: Rich Rod did not throw the interception. They tried to give themselves some momentum going into the second half. 90 yards would have been a touchdown and 60 yards, a field goal. 60 yards in 2:29 is not a pipe dream. This game was a flash of schadenfreude in an ugly transition year. Rich Rod will win big one day. In the meantime, do a better job living up to your moniker, for those moments that deserve it.

I don't think anyone contended it wasn't one of the worst halves of offensive football in Michigann history. So, thanks for the straw man.

So, you think that a team that, up to that point, had fewer yards than plays, and is down by 3 scores should merely abstain from an opportunity to score? Run run run punt? Grind clock? The fact that Threet threw an interception DOES NOT mean that Rodriguez's decision to attempt to score was bad. It's not as if RR called "WR Fly Interception".

I wasn't even a twinkle in my dad's eye when bump was coach.

Fortunately, age and intelligence aren't correlated.

Good one. Neither is youth and intelligence.

BTW remember the famous Lloyd blowup when a reporter asked him why he didn't try to score at the end of the half?

The real reason (that is stated over and over and over again every Saturday and Sunday) -- We are getting the second half kickoff. The risk versus reward (starting from your own 10) is too high!

Neither is youth and intelligence.

Um, I said that age and intelligence aren't correlated. In other words, a person's age has nothing to do with their intelligence. So - I never even attempted to suggest that being young made one smart.

This game gives new meaning to the quote "Those who stay will be champions"

SOOO excited, hopefully our boys can calm down and play like the 2nd half a bit more during the game.  Especially when we get into rivalry games like MSU and tOSU....

... after this game is more than a little bizarre. It's one of the signature wins in Michigan history, for chrissakes, and if we'd lost, clock management would be the least of the reasons.

In particular, complaining about not taking enough time off the clock brings back all the times over the previous 13 seasons when we'd completely sit on a lead, doing NOTHING except bleeding clock, only to have that lack of aggression come back and bite us in the ass at the end of the game.

Not to mention that the benefits of Barwis are maximized on offense if you permit the opposing defense as little time as possible between snaps. Michigan has been consistently the stronger team late in the game, and if you bleed clock you're negating that advantage.

I thought Wisky would win because I didn't think our D, esp. the D-line, were up to the task. Yesterday they were magnificent, all things considered. If we could just get the offense to do half as well in the first half as they've been in the second, we could be pretty dangerous. A big part of that would simply be to not turn the ball over.

Above all, this win speaks to the character of the team and the coaching staff. That's more than enough for me.

is his introduction of new team- and fan-oriented rituals, esp. the pre-game walk through the fans to the locker room, and the gathering in the endzone corner to sing the Victors after the game. I loved seeing some of the players hopping up onto the wall to celebrate with fans.

New blood is good.

For recruits the first half must have been painful to watch, but the second half and the ending couldn't have been more impressive.

For the guy who complained that other teams always snap the ball with the play clock almost out and we don't - there's a reason for that.  RR wants to increase the tempo of the game.  He doesn't want to give the opposing D almost 40 seconds to catch its breath between plays.  He wants our offense to capitalize on its superior conditioning  and snap the ball once we're ready.   In addition, doing so makes it more difficult for the opoosing defense to make situational substitutions.

Run Defense was above average in many ways. Threet played as well as he could've. Some of the second half throws he made were right on the Michigan WR's fingers and away from the defenders. Catchable football passes. Greg Mathews will need to make those catches. The end zone grab especially. I could think of one or two former Michigan WO's who make those catches. I can also think of a few former senior MI CB's, who were technically more sound then M. Trent is. Trent will need to lock it down some more mentally. Physically he's got crazy skills, just seems a step off. Not saying those two(Mathews/Trent) are horrible or anything. Sure it all worked out for a W. But you cannot continually go down 14-0 or 19-0. And then when all hope is lost decide it's ok to relax and play now. Hopefully this game will help Michigan come to terms with itself offensively.

When the crowd began to cheer after Mich started to make some good plays in the 3rd quarter, the announcers said that the crowd was "mockingly cheering."  Is this accurate? That seems more like the announcers' opinion, and I don't really see how it makes sense.  What do people who were at the game think?

FWIW, my roommate who is not a Michigan fan but watches the games with me, said to me at the half that it is to the Michigan fans' credit that it took that much for them to boo.  I don't like booing, but he could be right in a way.  Not that booing is ever right, but there are fanbases who boo egregiously e.g. Miami fans booing Kyle Wright, WVU fans booing their team last year for not beating Louisville by enough.  I wonder what others think about this.  I think that the Mich fanbase is just more tame all around, whether it involves good or bad fan behavior.

2Blue4You

September 28th, 2008 at 4:35 PM ^

Yes the cheers were mocking.  Cheers came when Michigan did not fumble or completed a pass as if we were expecting them to fumble every kick return, punt and throw and int. every pass.

I was upset w/ the Booing but as a 2006 graduate, i feel like the student section is way more involved (maize out every game, block M in the crowd) w/ cheers.  They were pretty loud and crazy all game. So maybe some sparratic booing comes w/ the incresed fan involvement.  I happened to be by some Frat boys that fell every big play taking out about 4 rows of fans.   It was annoying but they got what they deserved when about 4 Jack Daniels bottles were broken on the ground around them and they kept coming up w/ cut feet.

My first post was "WTF, WTF, WTF"

If you need a translation that was jubulation for a great win.

Second post was congratulating the coaches for changing the scheme for the second half.

The clock management comment was several hours later. BTW, should we wait until poor clock management costs us a game to try to fix it??

Ask, Brian, poor clock management is one of his hot buttons that he has posted about several times

Seriously?  If they had ran the ball 3 times and punted you'd complain too.  If IRC Wisky had at least one TO left, so they could have gotten the ball back had UM not gotten a first down on those 3 runs.

Complain about clock management when it's a clear cut Bill Stewart fuckup, not in the situation above.
