Terrible terrible news. He was one of the few LBs that could've realistically been moved to DE and been a force. He was definitely one recruit I had high hopes for. This sucks.
Exciting awesome excitementnews:
That Clearinghouse issue Marcus Witherspoon had did not go away; he isn’t going to be on the team this year or any other, it seems.
Also: Mathews and Van Bergen are doubtful for Saturday; Grady will play.
..are we as fans being punished because we root for Michigan? it just seems like a never ending streak of misfortune and disappointment.
Yes. It certainly is a "never ending streak of misfortune and disappointment." Only three Rose Bowls in the past 6 or 7 years? Only one national championship in the last 11 years? Only the best QB in the NFL? Only probably the third best receiver in the NFL? Only two guys who were the all-time statistical leaders for their position in the last four years? Only one number one draft pick in the last 5 months?
Yes, yes. My, my. What a never ending streak of misfortune and disappointment. We might as well be Baylor.
i apologize. i didn't realize that i should be happy with two embarrassing losses to begin and end the regular season last year. i also didn't realize that i should be estatic about losing to Ohio State for the last four years(6 of the last seven). i should also be THRILLED that we lost a five star QB for the future and two very promising defensive players. and forgive me for not celebrating the fact that a 5 star QB who could have really helped this year is playing in Columbus and another one is prepping for life as a Razorback. i should be celebrating an offense that looked one notch above suck against Utah. and that 0-1 start? FANTASTIC!!!!!!
mentioning Rose Bowls UM didn't win, a championship that occurred when Clinton was President, and NFL players who won't be donning the winged helmet anymore doesn't do anything for the here and now does it?
Because there is no such thing as a middle ground between estatic and hopeless.
...i love Michigan with all my Maize and Blue heart but to say that
there hasn't been some disappointment is living in denial. i know that
RR and the young UM squad needs time. and i know they'll get better but
it seems like every week there is something to set us back.
Several times in the off season, I heard different recruiting gurus talk about how impressive our LB haul was and how they would form the core of future UM front sevens. Now, two of them are already gone.
Wish them both the best. They still have tons of opportunities in front of them, it just wont be at UM.
It is good to see Grady will be back. I hope to see some (top-end?) contribution from him. I'm almost as pumped for this game as I was for Utah. I want to see if our lines can gel earlier, and I want to see our defense dominate like I think we started to in the final half of the Utah game.
- I'm telling you man, Grady, Helmuth and Moundrous can be like a drag blocker and really help. I don't know how it works in the spread with WR blocking. Or even TE blocking. I don't know the spread that well. But what I do know is saw nothing to the outside for any of our backs. Even if theyd gotten past the DE or OLB the safety was closing for UTAH and with a quickness.
- Spoon good luck to you bro.
- Well at least we know it cannot get any worse right?
Believe me, it can get worse. I've never been so afraid of a MAC team in my life. We play one this weekend.
It can only go up. Ever since Hockey I've been thinking how close Michigan gets and loses. Whether it be rose bowls or sauers 4 goals. Or even Chris Webbers time out. It never ends. Michigan has this tantalus thing going on it seems when it comes to locking up a NC. They win the top 10 best all around awards always. Have great funding just cannot lock it up and put the puzzle together for a national title. If anyone can it's Rodriguez though. Over time he wins. And Michigan will be there as long as they keep this guy coaching.
NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO.NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. NO.
Do not tell me this. How is it that the one recruit who I picked semi-arbitrarily to be my favorite (insane amount of sacks say not-so-much) is the one to not qualify?!!!!
B, any word on why he can't head to prep school for a year and then come in? I can't get an answer out of anybody.
I think waiting for Fock Lion ruined it. The whole prep school exit they never fully recover from. Speaking of Fock Lion, did anyone see him in the SI Michigan issue? He's in the center of the pic in the back. I am not comparing Fock to Spoon as people though. Spoon will be a force no matter where he lands.
Kgh are you coming to hang out with us tomorrow night, or are you totally going to wimp out?
Mom's bday brotha...but I will be going to the Miami game obvi. I certainly wouldn't mind dropping by a tailgate.
Email me: buon111 at gmail.com and I'll let you know about the tailgate.
At this rate, Michigan is fast approaching another full recruiting class of 25 for this year.
Michigan line backer hating god?
According to http://www.courierpostonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080904/SPORTS/809040329, Witherspoon will likely end up at Rutgers or Tennessee.
Two 4-star LB recuits gone. Yikes!
What's next?....legacies leaving the program and joining the dark side? .....losing out on the perfect spread QB to the dark side? Failing in our bid to bring back one of our own to coach us back to glory? Starting the season with no experienced QB? Losing our opener against a WAC team?
Let's GO Blue!
some UM fans here may start ripping you for pointing out the obvious.
That news article really makes it sound like M soured on 'Spoon for some reason and gave him the shaft. He was there for summer workouts for 2 months. Maybe he didn't click with Hopson? I also wonder how accurate this article is. I mean, did he pass the correspondence courses or not? If he's now eligible like his dad says, why the heck isn't he still at M?
