6 seconds too early you may say. Well, it doesn't change the facts.
I did not make this headline up
what a game
Great win, awesome series.
The way the ducks were flopping, I thought it was Anderson Varejao out there. And though Henrik didn't really contribute too much on offensive, he really is a terrific defensive forward.
That was one of the best games I've seen in awhile. Not flashy, just good ol' grind-it-out hockey.
..Talent over thuggery. Thank god.
This win almost wipes out the painly memory of the terrible performance by the Tigers bullpen today.
I enjoy CBC focusing on the Cleary interference.
"In a brave world the referees would have made the right call." -Ron McClean
how badly the media has been biased against the redwings?
What about the hossa no goal? What about pronger cross checking hudler to get the penalty and how about two of the ducks goals tonight coming on goalie interference plays.
They make holmstrom out to be a bad guy when he elbows a guy in the play because HE WAS HURT FROM THE BLOCK SHOT, but they blamed homer anyway. Then they completely ignore the gutless elbow on pavel AFTER THE GAME when that old goon sized him up first and then gave it to perennial lady bing winner.
There was a ton of bad calls that went both ways, but if you read espn or watched cbc, you'd think they all went against the ducks. What about the no call holding that resulted in a stick on the ice, and then the f'ing ref doesn't pick it up even when the puck was buried in the other end.
I think the main difference was that the wings kept their mouths shut and played hockey while the ducks were a bunch of fricken crybabies.
Can't wait till they play in the regular season next year. lets call up mccarty, and pull kocur out of retirement and teach them a lesson. You don't go after datsyuk or lidstrom.
...the media will be reflecting on the Red Wings making the playoffs for the 28th consecutive year, looking at the fact they will have won 8 cups in the prior 21 years, and they will have to recognize the team is, along with Montreal, the most dominant team over a sustained period in NHL history. I care about that way more than what some Versus or CBC hacks say.
beautiful perspective. I was there last night. NO DOUBT the calls we tilted the Ducks way, absolutely no doubt.
TSN pundits replayed the Cleary goal and all of them -- including former goalie Darren Pang -- said it was clean. McKenzie, unlike Ron McLean (whom I used to like), bothered to read from the NHL rulebook, stating that in the event of a loose puck in the crease, the offensive player may initiate incidental contact with the goalie to fight for the puck.
If you look at the replay, the puck is never covered by Hiller. It was bouncing around the entire time.
The refs got that one right, actually. I really used to like CBC. But their Canadian jingoism really puts me off. That's why I like when VS. plays the TSN feeds. (Plus, Chris Cuthbert is the best play-by-play man in the biz. CBC was nuts to let him go.)
Here's the link to the TSN discussion. Hit the "Ruffled Feathers" in the "related" box on the right. The video doesn't open in a proper browser windo, so no "direct" link.
I still like CBC. Their play by play trumps all other networks.
Never doubted you for a moment Dan.
That win needed to happen. One-line teams should not make the conference finals.
The Wings got the better of the calls tonight. The Ducks were the benefactors of two goals from outrageous penalties. In fact, if the Wings hadn't come back and pulled it out, the NHL would have been on the ass end of a lot of criticism for a long time. I'm still willing to bet the NHL takes heat, because it always does, because the officiating is terrible. But anyway, Go Wings.
That series was great. Lots of great games.
Here are my bold predictions:
1. Wings defeat Blackhawks in 5 games.
2. Wings defeat Pens in 6 games.
3. Conn Smythe will go to Chris Osgood and during his press conference he will tell all the Detroit talk radio hosts and callers to suck his left nut for doubting him all year long and calling him a sieve.
4. Patrick Kane will get knocked out of a game by a huge open ice check by either Kronwall or Stuart. *Kane missed a playoff game in the 1st round because he had the flu...what a fucking pussy. Kanes no MJ.
5. Mickey Redmond will go over on the over/under of 20 complaints about reffing per game.
6. Darren Helm will score 6 goals before the end of the playoffs. Guy is a stud.
I hate the Ducks. I said on a thread before this series that I would rather face Luongo and the Canucks than play against the asshole that is Pronger. Luongo was clearly not an example of "hot" goalie in the end. Thank god we won.
the bs. no call when pronger spun someone behind hiller. That spurred the chants of 'pronger sucks' for a long time. Not just the mandatory booing.
That was a cloooose one. I think the Chicago series may be somewhat of a struggle but Wings in six.
How about Mickey Redmond on FSN saying "You have to to be shitting me" when the puck was deflected out of play w/ 6 seconds left. Love how he is old school, diehard Wings.
Nice to see Ebbett do well, but not too well.
I was at the game tonight, probably the best hockey game I've ever gone to. I've never heard the Joe louder than when Cleary scored that goal in the third, granted I haven't been fortunate enough to score tickets for the finals but it was still pretty fucking loud.
And maybe I was viewing the game through my blinders but the refs seems very anti-wings tonight. Lots of calls (or non calls) went against the wings.
I totally would have gone if I hadn't been 7000 miles away.
I love how Jiri Hudler looks like the happiest guy in the world when he scores.
Hell, even the VS. announcers were openly wondering why Pronger wasn't getting called for all the shit he was pulling.
I love all this crap about Cleary's so-called interference. How about this instead: Since the puck was behind Hiller, he wasn't playing the puck at all, he was interfering with Cleary who was trying to play the puck and should have been whistled for interference himself. A little extreme, but frankly it's at the very least just as plausible as goaltender interference on Cleary.
