Where In The World Is David Brandon?

The plane that may or may not have David Brandon and the crabby ghost of Don Canham aboard has returned to Baton Rouge, landing about fifteen minutes ago. Tiger Droppings scrambled F-16s…

operationmoremiles

…but they apparently didn't make it. Meanwhile, the other plane that may or may not have Dave Brandon aboard is in Dallas, where a coaching convention is going on. So either Les Miles is approaching done or Brandon is in Dallas interviewing anyone who looks at him funny and the winged helmet plane heading to Baton Rouge every hour on the hour is just a bizarre coincidence.

Or both. It's likely that UM reps of some variety are in both places, so Les Miles is in play and they're talking but nothing is certain so they're trying to scout out backup plans.

But won't hear it from me. There's no point in railing against the guy once he's here. My love for the program will wane a little, but I won't abandon it. We'll win more, and the vast majority won't care what we gave up to get it. Then someday he'll be gone and Michigan Football will still be around. Just a little less than what it was.

Not that different from the sanctions you hated so much (in Rich's case; the one's coming to LSU now don't seem to bother you much...); it's a black eye, but not life threatening harm. Michigan Football is bigger than any coach, Bo, Lloyd, Rich, or Les. I just hopes it stands for the same things.

So what?  We get Hoke, who you like?  There aren't many other promising options, so let's take that one hypothetically.  It is likely, though not certain, that he is a decent but not great coach based on his record.  So we get a 10-win ceiling that we hit once every 3ish years?  That's what a decent coach would probably do here based on the current state of the program.  I'm sure Hoke is a great guy, but you don't pick the most moral guy to coach football when he's not the most competent.  If he wins 8-9 games every year, when he leaves, Michigan football will be MUCH less than what it was.

I agree with Bando, even though he's being outrageously inconsistent considering how he treated RichRod, but then I'm not shocked that he is incapable of rationality.

Uh, good one?  I asked you for alternatives, noted your constant support of Hoke (hard to miss when you post in every thread), and suggested he might not be ideal.  I think Gruden and Patterson would be ideal, but failing that, I seriously doubt we can do better than Miles.

Here you have attacked Miles for engaging in the usually SEC slimery, and I think that's legitimate.  But to act like 1) it will unquestionably continue, 2) will fundamentally lessen the program from its current sorry state, or 3) that it would be worse than being mediocre for years is ridiculous, and from your constant negs on this topic I'm guessing most people agree.  Your pathetic attempts at sarcasm and humor aside, I don't see you offering any options, just "Miles bad, Hoke good."  If DB is only able to come up with the opposite of that premise, he's at least doing better than you.

Serious. Half your posts exists just to take the piss out of me. I guess I should be proud to have my own Internet stalker, I just wish he could come up with arguments, not insults.

I mean negs?! Ha, last night I was overwhelmingly pos'd for it. Means nothing. Other than the board is panicking so much that they're becoming like you, and thinking winning is more important than doing things the right way. So yes, I don't think the lack of winning in the program right now is worse than doing shady stuff. Sorry to all of you who only pay attention to it on Saturday so you can brag to your Sparty co-workers on Monday.

And it wasn't a question, it was a baseless accusation. If you've actually READ all my posts you claim to see, I have said Hoke isn't the end of the world like so many have made it out to be. But I've named other names, and said Hoke probably isn't the best because the fanbase wouldn't get behind him. I've admired Patterson's D, said Mullen's O and northern roots would make him a hood fit, and that Gruden was unlikely, but would be a recruiting splash. And that Brandon could go outside the box and do very well. It's hardly been a "nobody but Hoke", as much as an "anybody but Miles". (Or someone worse...I hope I don't have to say "anybody but Saban"...but hey, he wins!!). In that regard, for a change, Brian and I see eye to eye. The fact that he's been do quiet on it lately tells me he's either afraid of pissing off the new coach, or just do resigned by the way his readers differ so much from him that he's given up.

I think you can find some mere mortals who coach and put their players well being first. The guy on your avatar who you ironically don't think much of could. But I don't think he could make wine out of water.

He played by the rules of the SEC. If he did not he would lose. Not to mention that he did not screw these kids, as you claim. If these kids were good enough to be offered a scholarship they can transfer to another university and play football, or go through college like the other 99 percent of people and pay for it themselves with loans or their parents money.

This delusion that the NCAA is anything other than a business is comical. Its time to start paying the players for the work they do, and the millions of dollars the university makes off them. Then when a coach cuts a player, it's a business decision, which its always been.

Those who stay will be champions!

... totally understand your point of view.  I've been wrestling with this issue -- should he do what is morally right as defined by some higher power or should he do what's morally right by the rules defined within the organization in which he works.

He was hired by an organization to play within their rules and succeed.  Can he do the same within our organization with a stricter moral code?

I haven't been able to resolve this issue by myself (with help of whisky), but one thing that is pretty evident is that even playing within the rules defined by the SEC, he still hasn't been classy and honest about it.  He's just seemed weasily, and that, more than anything scares me.

If he is our coach, sobeit.  But I only hope that we do not tolerate any of that southern  morality that to me still reeks of racism and aristocracy and resembles nothing of education and the development of our youth.

Do Something. If it works, do more of it. If it doesn't, do something else.

Nobody does but Brandon. But to try and answer your questions, I'd take anybody who is going to do things the right way, and support them. And that includes Hoke. Though I think there are people that would satisfy more people than Hoke who also don't have the track record publicized by Brian, then ESPN, of shady actions who could qualify.

I do not condone his actions with that recruit, and while that's not uncommon practice in the SEC world of oversigning kids, it would at Michigan, where we might be on probation, but we don't do shit like that.  But the bottom line is simple, Miles wins.  He'll win at Michigan, and he's winning in the top conference in college football.  I think he can do just as well in the Big Ten, even minus the shady shit that he's done in the past.  Just saying...

The guy is a great coach, recruiter.

Whether the hire is Miles or someone else, we need to unite the fan base and be supportive of the program. We know it matters to recruits, and I believe it can affect the current players as well.
