Rawls if he can hang onto it, I'd guesss
What is your Free Press subscription status?
There site sucks anyways....always asking for your zip code/birth date.
My self-esteem is directly related to my MgoPoints.
the freep will never get another click from me
For best results, the poll should include an option for non-subscribing readers (occasional and/or regular).
I read every day, online, if only as my default coverage of happenings in and around the D (given the status of the former A2 News). But I've been growing more discontent with the sports coverage, and this may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
So perhaps three additional options: read online and 1) continue to do so, 2) plan to stop immediately, or 3) taking a wait-and-see outlook with this "story" before removing freep.com from the bookmarks.
If only Coach Mo hadn't gotten so drunk.
I don't read newspapers but I do print out and file mgoblog.
Ace Williams follows me on Twitter.
Anyone who would unsubscribe because of an investigative article is pretty dumb... just sayin
might be valid if that piece of trash were an investigative article. Instead it's just a one sided, slanted, agenda pushing, gossip column that provides no national context or sworn testimony.
going to cancel!!! just like the aa news.
I told people to go F*ck themselves, therefore I have been banned
That poll closed quickly.
What is this thing called a "subscription"?
Life should not be a journey to the grave to arrive safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What A Ride!" HST
This story makes me long for the days when journalism produced such things as the general studies investigation . . .
It'd be nice if that "cancel your vote" button was a "cancel your subscription," not that I advocate that.
Giving them clicks is basically the equivalent as a subscription right?
Stop the clicking madness...Please have a selection for "Take them out of my bookmarks."
I am surprised that they article did not refer to any document shredding. It is amusing that the worst thing Rosenberg can find on RichRod is that everybody works too hard. For centuries, voluntary stuff can be used as a measure of desire. My 12-year-old's soccer coach lined them up last week and asked how many people are doing extra stuff at home to make themselves better...wow, guess who plays more?
I was especially pleased with companion article on how everything is fine at MSU. Did Rosenberg haveto pull Drew Sharp out of Sparty's ass before he could get in there?
The DetNews and the Freep have had separate Sunday editions for some time.
Subscribe away!
And write a letter to the editor of the Freep and tell him why you went to the competition:

or e-mail:

I'm pretty sure that they don't. They are completely separate every other day and the Detroit News does not publish on Sunday. News subscribers receive the Sunday Free Press, which is why this was printed today and not, say Friday or Saturday.
The Freep was so concerned about the wellbeing of our athletes that they decided to wait until the weekend before the season starts to report these "egregious violations" even though they apparently have known for a while ...
They had to make absolutely, positively sure that the allegations...
would inflict the most possible damage on the program.
Crap. I meant, "are completely true." Silly me.
Assuming that this blog readership skews younger.....
So much for getting newspapers to advertise here!
I strongly recommend this important news source in lieu
of the Freep:

No radio. Nothing of value.
Since Day 1, it has been Rosenberg's mission to denigrate, undermine, and badmouth Rodriguez and his program at Michigan. It is all so bizarre. Does the Freep realize all they are doing is pissing off a huge percentage of their readership? There is absolutely no way in Hell I would pay a nickle of my own money to buy their product.
And as far as other major D1A programs go, if ANY of you think they don't also vastly exceed the current NCAA time limits, I've got a really great bridge for sale. I was a varsity athlete while at M and was friends and roomates with several football players (this was during the Bo/Mo transition), and even back then, 20 years ago, the players would say it was "a full-time job." But guess what? For that effort, they got a stipend check from the AD every month to pay their rent and living expenses, they could eat like kings at the Training Table, they each got enough free clothing and shoes for 5 people, and their schooling at a Top 25 academic institution, was FREE with FREE tutoring facilities and services. If I was blessed with their ability to play football, I would've taken that deal in a heartbeat.
Yeah, I might punch Rosenberg in the face if I see him on the street.
Go Blue
I've subscribed for nearly 30 years; I delivered the Freep 35+ years ago. Sort of a fish wrap, but what paper isn't today?
There may or may not be a fire here; there's definitely some smoke, even if it's from some disaffected players, alums or Schembechler Hall stalwarts.
The key is what happens in the next 72 hours. If Bill Martin and others come strongly to RichRod's defense, then this thing can fade away (eventually...). If it's one of those "we have commenced an investigation and will have no comment until it is completed and reviewed," then RichRod is at risk of being hung out to dry.
I'd love to jump on the slam the free press wagon, but if what they claim is true then we need to know. Not only that I think that all NCAA football program players need to be asked the same questions asked by the FreeP. I'll bet you find that most if not all say the same thing that our players are saying. We need to know mostly because if there are penalties for not doing more than is asked it needs to be stopped. You can only suggest to your team that the best and brightest players put in more than is asked and stop there. If the kids decide to put in the effort reward that effort. The punishment for those that don't will be less playing time and is that really a punishment? You didn't put in the work like your team mates did and you are not performing to their level. The other team members will figure it out eventually. It's my opinion that you need to earn the right to be on the U of M team or any college team and that means doing things above and beyond what it asked of you! Once you graduate from college and get into the real world it's not a cushy nine to five lifestyle you'll be living (unless of course you are a unionized member of the UAW and you NEVER work beyond what is listed in your contract). Work for it guys! If I am RR I would be saying something like "of course we tell them the rules, but if I see a player putting in the extra effort and he is getting better because of that extra effort I am going to recognize that!" I can't stand the O just like most people reading this rant, but do we really believe they are putting in a "eight hour a week" effort?!? Of course not. And either is any other successful NCAA football team. The O is putting in the time and developing pretty good teams along the way. Yes, they do suck when it comes to performing on the national stage, but at least they are making it there. And do you believe it's by working within the NCAA guidelines?!? Hell no! And as much as I don't like the O I can't blame them for that. They are successful and that has to be recognized. Rules are rules though and they need to be followed. I'm sure RR walks a fine line like everyone else. Problem is that there are people watching everything he does right now and he needs to stay to the right. The players who are smart enough to know that eight hours a week just ain't gonna cut it are the players that will help bring championships back to the M! I'm not trying to justify what RR is alleged to be doing, but c'mon guys. Work for it, earn it and respect it!
Read the Free Press as I was growing up and for a long time after that. Canceled my subscription when they canceled home delivery, wish I had kept it so I could cancel now. I click on the front page most days to see what the latest gossip is on the former mayor, but avoid the sports section, Drew Rosenburger does not get any clicks from me.
I'm shocked, shocked I tell you that players and former players believe that they need to put in more than 8 hours per week to be successful in a major college football program. Heck, my son put in more than 8 hours per week when he played high school ball.
This too shall pass.
"Men, we're going to make a few changes here." - Bo Schembechler, Spring of 1969
wow the Freep is getting pwned
No question, Jim.
A poll?
About cancelling my Freep subscription?
On mgoblog?
Really?
We want the team to whip OSU and win a national championship. That might happen with RR there, but **only** if he and Barwis can operate as they want -- which means football comes first, everything else, and yes, that includes studies, a distant second.
I'm cool with that. If it was truly about "student athletes" I'd have had a letterman sweater.
And let me say--as much as I love(d) Bo, and it's such a tribute to him that so many in the football and athletic dept want to continue to do things his way and Rich Rod is up against an enormous cultural wall, let me say this (oy, long sentence), Bo's way is wonderful. Just like GM's way was wonderful -- in the 1950s. Them days are gone.
Those who stay will be champions!
Yellow journalism is a type of journalism that downplays legitimate news in favor of eye-catching headlines that sell more newspapers. It may feature exaggerations of news events, scandal-mongering, sensationalism, or unprofessional practices by news media organizations or journalists.
These half reported Michael Rosenberg exposes by the Detroit Free Press = Yellow Journalism. The Feagin story was unfair, and not completely reported, especially when MSU is taking players from the prison door to the practice field on the same exact day. This story is not complete (no break down of what constitutes mandatory practice time and what doesn't, nor what is “expected” at other programs – even supposedly “clean” ones).
I will not be positing on the Freep web site or reading the Free Press any more.

Need to add an option for "website visitors." If people want to hit them where it hurts, cutting into their advertising revenue is a good start (after canceling their subscription, of course).
