what happened to Muskegon big reds?

They for the past decade have always had highly rated players coming out of that program. what has happened to all that athleticism? has it dried up? I feel like im crying foul because they still must have some great athletes up there.

they have some tremendous athletes, or at least they did last year. They played my highschool (Rockford) and we got our asses handed to us. The athleticism is there, and will probably be there for some time. Some schools have the facilities and some have ridiculous athletes. Muskegon falls under the latter.

I can only continue to reference the fact that I live in an onion factory.

I've heard the team is still pretty good. Sadly when you lose the number five guy in the nation according to Rivals a couple seasons back in Ronald Johnson their is bound to be some drop off.

they still produce solid talent each year. RoJo's little brother i believe was original planning on going to MSU i think he changed his mind and went else where. majority of the players get atleast to MAC schools or they go to GVSU. Many go to GVSU. they always have one of the best teams in the State. But they are going through a coaching change

What highly rated players? The only two major players to come out of Muskegon recently were Terrance Taylor and Rojo. They've never been a big producer of BCS talent. Their ranks are filled with MAC players, and that's good enough to destroy other high schools in the state. The Detroit schools always have the star players, but Muskegon would lay waste to all of them because a) they're more balanced, and b) the coaching at the Detroit schools is, well...bad.

Muskegon has produced many great football players (Bernie Oosterbaan, Earl Morrell to name a few). In recent years they do send a lot of players to the collegiate levels but not to BCS programs (with the exception of Taylor, Johnson, and Leggett (MSU). I know the 2007 team had 8 players who were said to be D1 caliber, but I believe all went D2 or Junior College. Not sure what it was, but to send that many players (consistently) to collegiate football programs speaks volumes on how well the coaches do in getting their players names out there. For most of these kids college football is their best/only way to receive a higher education, so hats off for that. (Rojo was at Notre Dame's camp as a sophmore, ran the fastest 40 and had the best time in the agility drill)

In their defense the D2 schools most attend are Grand Valley, North Dakota State, and a couple have gone to Northern Iowa so they are going to the top D2 programs.

Ashton Leggett should get significant PT as a RB for Sparty this year.

For a smallish* public school in a beat down town of 40,000, Muskegon produces plenty of talent. GVSU signed two guys off last year's team, including the QB, Chris Crawford (#158 ATH to ESPN).

They do have a new coach this season, it will be interesting to see if they continue to dominate. 3 state championships in 5 years is pretty good.

* Muskegon is the smallest HS by enrollment in the 8 team OK Red division, 93rd largest in the state according to the MHSAA.

His name is Tony Anese, and under him the Big Reds were probably the best team in the State regardless of division. All they did was trash Rockford, who wins division 1 almost every year. About nine high schools in the Muskegon area, and 6 or 7 of them are perennial football powerhouses. At least 3 won state championships last year, as all 8 division state championships were won by West Michigan teams!!
I think Tony Anese is at a small college now, I don't remember the name of it.

The new coach is Matt Koziak. I believe this is his first job as a head coach. I know he worked with Tony Aneese the past several years either as special teams and/or offensive coordinator during that time. I am pretty sure he played college ball, not sure where though.
