I enjoy watching survivor man. I think the guy on that show is crazy. He cares for his own cameras and survives on his own. Whereas Bear from Man vs. Wild has a camera crew that helps him with certain things. My question is which, if any do you watch, and do you think Bear is a fake. I know that dude is crazy because I have watched other shows that he is on but I just think his survival show is fake and Discovery should get rid of his and just keep survivor man. I'm real bored and not tired. This is what happens....
**WAY WAY OT: Man Vs. Wild against Survivor Man
I think Survivor Man is much better than Bear Grylls Man v. Wild. Survivor man is alone in the wild and he clearly tells the audience when he has people helping him in situations of extreme danger (i.e. when he was sent out at sea in a life raft and had a boat monitoring is safety with a radio). So, Survivor man is much more upfront with what he is doing, has a much better personality during the show, and doesn't have a camera crew. All that makes him much better than that Bear who got busted for sleeping at a resort in Hawaii at night and during the day filming his show
It got out that he was staying in hotel resorts some nights and that most opportunities are placed out in front of him.
I rest my case. Survivorman wins.
wow, that really kills the fun.
wish i had more time to watch either
i had no idea that he was caught in a hotel. some of the other video's on the side are pretty funny as well.
Thus, the entire show is a fraud. Remember the "wild horse" he was trying to tame in mountains? Set up, domesticated horse. He's not actually demonstrating anything when the scenarios are fake. Sure, he's a good climber and all...but that's about it. Survival experts tell him what he can and can't eat/use, etc. he has plenty of food on hands so he's not actually surviving. He doesn't sleep in the elements. If he gets hurt, there's plenty of people to save him.
That's true but---- he still urinated on his black shirt and put it over his face. AND he also ate a raw fish that he caught. Even if he was told that's the way to survive, that's still pretty bad ass. Especially if he doesn't have to since he's staying in non-survival conditions off-camera.
Good to know survival techniques in the wild in case i ever wind up in Columbus post michigan/ohio state game.
I watch Man v. Wild. No, Bear does not carry his own camera, but I like that you have a better perspective of what he is doing, whether it is catching a giant catfish with his bare hands, repelling down a sheer cliff with a rope, sliding down a glacier, etc.
In a recent episode, Bear climbed a rock wall (definitely well over a hundred feet high) using only a few vines that did not look particularly sturdy. That's legit.
I just feel more engaged by Man v. Wild, but I understand your position. And I'm not downplaying Survivor Man at all. Just my preference. The camera guys rarely do anything on Man v. Wild, anyway, and they don't really bother me.
True that Man V. Wild is fake. But I disagree that Bear Grylls is a fake. He broke his back parachuting while in the British SAS, climbed Everest and Ama Dablam, etc. So, he's still pretty badass.
That said, I don't really watch either of those shows.
I was about to point this out. Even though his show is kind of fake, it's a different sort of thing; most of the time, it's not like it's "The Beat Grylls Show". The point is not "Look at how sweet Bear Grylls is." Theoretically, it's showing people how to get out of these situations. But Bear Grylls has definitely proven to me that he's sufficiently badass or whatever.
That being said, I don't really have a TV right now, but I enjoy Survivorman more.
Bear is more entertaining (welcome to first grade if you couldn't figure out that much of the demonstrations etc. are set up), but survivor man is obviously much more realistic in his surviving on his own, since, well, he's actually surviving on his own and Bear isn't. I just think survivor man is utterly boring compared to man vs wild, so I'll take Bear.
I have had this same argument with my friend before. I think that man vs. wild is a more entertaining show because the things that he does is more theatrical.
But, what I was trying to tell my friend who wouldn't understand is that survivor man is all alone. Just the psycological factor of being alone in the wild especially at night vs. knowing there are other people are you is completely different.
You can call Bear a faker all you want, but did you see the episode where he was in the artic tundra and cut two big holes in the ice, about 10 feet apart, striped to his boxers, and jumped into one hole, swam to the other (under the ice), pulled himself out, ran to shore, and built a fire....all this so he could "demonstrate" how to survive if you fell through the ice.
i don't care if it turns out a highway or a resort hotel were 10 feet away! he could go have a hot cocoa afterwards, but the fact is, the crazy bastard jumped into frozen waters! And we think ann arbor is cold.
Survivorman is a show that shows the bare essentials that one must do to survive in the wild. He is usually more conservative, and rightly so, since he is by himself.
Man vs Wild is a show that shows how to survive in the most extreme of situations. Of course if you were trying to survive in the wild you wouldn't jump into sub zero water naked, or climb into quick sand, or many of the extreme cases he puts himself into, but if for some reason you had to do it, Bear shows the technique and knowledge to improve your survival rate. Plus, it is entertaining to see him do these extreme things. He has the luxury of a film crew and other people, so he pushes survival to the limits.
People who compare these two shows as exactly the same thing are comparing them wrong. They are two different genre of shows. They share the same premise, which is survival, but go at it in different ways.
This is the first Mgoblog argument that I actually care about...
MAN V. WILD all day long! Come on man! The guy made a sleeping bag out of a dead sheep the other day! He started climbing up the face of a waterfall, then got diarrhea and crapped off of it while hanging there! He friggin' eats scorpions, turtles and bugs. Survivorman, as much respect as I have for the guy - just sits there. Every episode is the same. He sits there, makes a fire and maybe plays his guitar. That's it. He doesn't climb anything, eat anything gross, jump off of anything, jump into anything.
Yea I know bear grylls doesn't actually spend the night in the places he goes, but he really eats stuff, jumps off of stuff, etc.
Man vs. Wild. No contest. Bear is so legit. I mean really, everyone knows that people with British accents are more knowledgeable and more entertaining than people without. Seriously, how many of you would find Blue Planet and Planet Earth so entertaining if David Attenborough didn't have that smooth sexy British accent?
Alright. I can't stand watching survivorman. The guy is so dull. On top of that, I watched several episodes where he had all of these supplies to aid his survival. He may be by himself but he's got things to improve this survival and people know where he is at all times. Don't tell me he's not watched over just like Bear is. Not to the extent I'm sure, but watched over nonetheless. They can't do it.
The reason Bear doesn't do all of those things legitimately is because the network and lawyers and what not won't let him. He can and will do it, but its document how he has to fight to be more dangerous.
I didn't want to watch castaway. I don't want to watch survivorman either. I'll read a book if I need to take the information he has to give.
Survivor Man is a show about surviving in the wild (which isn't always exciting). Man v Wild is a show about a guy who does outrageous shit. It's more like Jack Ass than Survivor Man. If you were stuck in the wild and had to invite one of the two with you, you'd want to take Survivor Man. Bear would get you killed doing the things he does, plus he gets pretty annoying after a while.
But did anyone see the episode where Bear skinned and gutted a dead camel, then scooped the liquid out of its stomach and drank it, then squeezed the contents of its stomach and drank that, then ate a piece of the camel's fat, then used its skin as a blanket, then finally climbed inside of the camel to stay warm? That was crazy.
I don't enjoy learning, therefore I watch ESPN.
Well regardless of what we all think, Survivor Man didn't survive so all the new episodes we have to look forward to are only of Man vs. Wild. I like both shows for the main reasons stated above. Survivor Man was more "realistic" and Bear is just a crazy mofo sometimes.
Man vs Wild is much more entertaining and educational.
'nuff said. Survivor man wins. Can't stand those limey Brits. Per most Kevin Bacon / Charlie Sheen survival movies, take the guy with the flannel. Leave the Brit to get devoured by a manticore or genetically mutated shark or radiation exposed Yeti.
Survivorman & Man vs. Wild are the two best shows on television.
