Vincent Smith Run (Free Video)

I know this has been discussed already, but the video wasn't free on Rivals so I found it on youtube instead. This is the run everyone has been talking about from Spring practice in the Wolverine Drill.

Was that RR in the background with the hat on smiling (You'll have to look at the slow replay).

WOW, that is impressive. To be able to break tackles while stumbling from having just broken another tackle - that is athletic ability. My (wildest) hope is he becomes a 5'6'' version of pre-NFL Reggie Bush. The play that comes to mind is the USC/FSU game from 2004ish where Bush runs up the left side, stops on a dime to let an FSU defender fly by in front of him, reverses field and cuts across into the end zone for a TD.

One positive is that he seems to have a fairly low center of gravity. I think one of McGuffie's problems last year, besides being a tad bit small (freshman, only one year in the weight program etc), was his upright running style that gave opposing defenders the chance to just tee off on him. Hopefully Vincent will not have the same problem.

That was pretty awesome. I second the notion that his low center of gravity can be quite an asset. Those big guys have to get REALLY low, even relatively for their size, to get this guy down which is something to watch.

Also, for McGuffie, I too agree his upright running style contributed to his concussions and hard hits. But I also think the fact that we had so many problems with fumbling he was often forced to run with 2 hands on the ball which made it even harder for him to deflect hits, keep his balance, stiff-arm, etc. Those factors probably had a big role as well.

I don't think the amazing part of that run was that he never went down because with sure tackling he would have. However, the fact that with all the contact he encountered, that run was quite impressive. In the same circumstance in a game, he would likely go down. But this shows that there will be instances where, if our opponents tackling isn't spot on, Vincent Smith will be able to make some big things happen.
