The font was smaller than what I usually zoom to when reading the regular page, even when in landscape mode. It's not that it's unreadable, but I don't like to strain my eyes to read it. Is there potential to add a zoom feature or will it just be a set font?
Unverified Voracity Unveils App
App: extant. The MGoBlog iPhone app is live in the Apple App Appstore:
It's free, and will still be inaccessible on Gameday when 100,000 people try to text their buddy "DENENENENENAAAARD." But if you're on an iPhone it's better than webbin' it. Guilt at lack of Android app: severe. If there are any Android developers out there interested in a revshare deal to create one, email me.
Send us your sons. Since it's football season we'll forgo the full breakdown of Glenn Robinson III, Michigan's freshest basketball recruit and the son of Glenn Robinson (II, I guess), that guy who played for Purdue and was in the NBA forever. Robinson is a 6'6" wing who will arrive in 2012 (ie, the year after Carlton Brundidge and Trey Burke). Robinson's a three star rated #118 by Rivals who picked up an offer in August. UMHoops doesn't have a google-stalk yet but it's just a matter of time.
Crist concussion certain. Dude, Dayne Crist was concussed. This is from Brian Kelly:
"We had just got clearance from the TV tout to take the field. We were under a minute. That's when he said, 'Coach, I just don't remember this play.' You could look at him and you could tell that he wasn't fully in charge. So that's when we made the decision to make the change."
I'm not saying Kelly's a bad guy (though I'd be disappointed in RR if he'd done something similar) or that making a decision like that is easy, but at some point there should probably be a guy unaffiliated with either school who makes a decision about whether a player who's "dazed" can return at all. If you're out most of a half, have trouble seeing out of one eye, and are having memory issues, that's a "maybe next week" sort of injury.
TWIS for you. Some miscommunication led This Week In Schadenfreude to get posted late but you'll want to head over there for the awesome animated GIF created from the Terpstra on-field video and the Nation's reaction:
ya know what?
by jddomer (2010-09-11 19:34:34)
f--- you, and anyone who thinks this game was OK. F--- YOU!!!!!! I hate michigan with the white hot heat of 1000 suns. We should NEVER lose to thses f---ers. EAD. These fuckers should never beat us, especially like this. And, being unfortunate enouogh to be born in that godforsaken f---ing state, I will ahev to listen to the "we are better than you" shit for yet another year. F--- you.,
Where is my Jack? seriously. I need a bottle, and I need it now. Until we are 10-1.
Most of you just laughed like mad scientists, and that's okay.
This looks familiar. Via a reader comes this report of a new tradition at Marshall that seems slightly ripped off from your favorite team:
They're still getting the hang of it:
They started a “new” tradition where the players hit the M[arshall] Club banner on their way out onto the field. Its quite a circuitous route as the come out of their locker room which is in the North end zone, run up the hashes to the 50, make a right hand turn, and boom! hit the banner. Best part was they didn’t set the banner at an appropriate height (probably 10’) and only a handful of the players were able to hit it. Lots of missing going on.
You're welcome, WVU readers. We try to give something back.
More walk-ons necessary. So the annual walk-on tryouts went down:
More than 30 students participated in tryouts for the Michigan football team Monday afternoon. Rodriguez said six or seven will receive an extended look during a two-week trial period.
“A couple really caught our attention,” he said. “They might have a spot on the team.”
Major injuries. Michigan isn't the only team getting it in the nads from Angry Blank-Hating Gods. Purdue's #1 receiver and only remaining scary offensive threat in the aftermath of Ralph Bolden's injury is out for the year, which is especially painful because Smith is a senior who has taken a redshirt and will have to apply for a sixth year he may or may not get.
Also gone is Ohio State starting strong safety CJ Barnett, though Ohio State has the depth to find a suitable replacement. Not so much Purdue. Penn State's Gerald Hodges, their version of Mike Jones, will miss 4 to 8 weeks as well. MSU lost its third-string TE, so they're totally screwed.
Steal my thunder. I was totally going to do this but BWS beat me to it:
This is not the 31-yard Roy Roundtree touchdown that kicked off Michigan's scoring. It's a play on the previous drive that ended with Robinson gaining a few yards on that QB off tackle or whatever you want to call it. Look at the WRs: they're running routes. I'm not sure if this is an option for Robinson he misread, a mistake, or a proof of concept for the 'Tree TD, but Michigan saw the results and got seven points out of it. More details at the link above.
RBUAS alert. Johnny talks about the wonder that is Stephen Hopkins. No, not really:
The Saturday morning before last I woke up on an inflatable mattress on the floor of a friend’s apartment in Ann Arbor. You know how the rest goes.If you type in Denard Robinson on Google the first suggestion is "Denard Robinson Heisman." He doesn't know what they say about him on television because he doesn’t have cable. Notre Dame let him in the interview room, the first time an opposing player has been allowed in there since 1997. Dick Vitale spent Saturday afternoon telling Jalen Rose over Twitter that Denard Robinson was awesome, baby. Lebron James said he was “a monster out there right now.” Denard Robinson is operating from a different dimension. We can all only swarm to the crater where he crash landed and pick through the debris for souvenirs.
Etc.: Get your Denard wallpaper. Backstreet's back after the Ohio State win. Big Ten Hockey from the BC perspective. Personally I doubt it has any impact on further Big Ten Expansion. Brabbs dominates some more cancer. Blue Seoul picture pages the crap out of everything, including the Tate-RR hugz. Tom Brady on the cover of SI. LOL wrong Michigan QB guyz.
Please fix the "Denard wallpaper" link -- I hope it's the Heisman look-a-like photo, which was just sick.
Also, any plans for a Blackberry Torch MGoBlog app, or am I the only 'tard that has one of those?
Brian Kelly today claimed Crist has a "Contusion" not a "Concussion"
An article on contusions:
That's even different that what I thought. I thought Crist had a conclusion. As in, he concluded that his team was not equipped to deal with a dilithium-powered U-M quarterback.
I've mentioned some of this in other posts, so pardon the repetition:
- It would make me and Brian happy if you click on the ads once in a while. It won't take you out of the app, and the ones not for apps in the app store pay nicely.
- Errata #1: Please make sure to always type a subject (or else bad things can happen). I'll submit a fix this week.
- I'll ad features over time. Many things didn't make it by my deadline. Suggestions are always welcome.
- I know about voting (not any time soon)
- I know about the oldest first ordering (soon)
- Looking into some performance tweeks
- message received on the yellow. I can change it to something like the faint yellow under the user's mgopoints on this page... or something more maize (which could also look harsh)
- Don't double/triple click the post button. This will be fixed soon (i think it's fixed for replies).
I gotta explain to my spouse why I'm clicking on ads for the "#1 dating app!"
"No honey, it's nothing you did. Brian Cook asked me to."
these ads kinda suck... except for the direct TV/NFL ad, which has some nice demos.
Hopefully they'll start rotating some cooler ads.
I'm loving it so far!
The linemen are all pass blocking on that play, which suggests it is a read.
When is the Android version getting made?
The App is pretty money! Well done! Marshall Banner is hilarious
Aaaaaand another reason to NOT get a nextel blackberry. And before I get mocked mercilessly, you should know that if your boss thinks that "direct connect" is the coolest thing ever, you will be officially screwed and obsolete. You pay the same price for unlimited data, but because nextel is slightly ahead of 2 cans and a string, you get an eighth of the data speed. I know it sucks, and it is LITERALLY the DUMBEST phone on earth to have, (ok, maybe just a regular nextel is actually the dumbest,) but i can haz app for nextel blackberry plz?
Poor sad Buckeye fan. Keep that singing up and we might start to pity you like Sparty fan.
Not a great place to be.
Downloaded. I've become more powerful than you can ever imagine.
God bless you Brian.
I can haz blackberry version?
Or a snappy mobile web version?
opera mini browser on my crappy free sprint phone, and I can read the website just fine. I can also up/down vote, and post. Why do you even need an app to do something your phone can already do? I'm not really computer savy, so maybe this is a dumb point... who knows?
Last year I was out-of-my-mind desperate to understand why we had an orange rodent mascot at a basketball game. Thankfully my fellow mgobloggers came through with a prompt response (it was Squaddy, the South Quad Squirrel, previously unknown to me). But not until I'd frantically refreshed a dozen times on my miserable iPhone safari browser, scrolling and zooming with my clumsy Crisler-hotdog-grease-smeared fingers. I gotta believe a dedicated iPhone app would have been better.
You never know when you're going to have an MGoBlog emergency, and I for one want to be prepared with an app.
If you're reviewing old posts through your account, checking new posts in old threads, or it's something you want to go back to later for sure, then yeah, there's still an advantage to just using the Safari or such. If you're doing something creative, with quotes, or embedded video or such, then no, it's not going to be of much help (but then neither is your website access currently, without plain text edition switch on the mobile anymore. And it would have taken a long time even then).
The advantages I've seen:
The quicker load time for long posts. Anything with a lot of responses is just as likely to crash your Safari, but not your App.
If you're reading some long Brian main post, like UFRs, or something you're likely to read, but not really post a long conversation to (maybe something you'll only check to see if you have a response to, and not read the rest), it's easier to read, load, and go through.
Breaking news- if you want to see if there's any word on rumor or breaking news, you can check it fast. If you have or heard breaking news, you can check the Board quick to see if it's already been posted. And if not, put it in quickly, without waiting for it to open, and log in.
If you're just going to look at something quick, and get back to it later.
It's not the full site access, but neither is your mobile web browser. But it's a lot quicker and faster. They both have their uses.
Hoping to push the guilt button. Someone get on it plz.
Ditto. It's 6am and I already have experienced the euphoria of seeing the MGoBlog aapp nd then the bitter frustration of there being no Android version. How am i supposed to face the day now? Oh well, I still have Denard...
Wow, I love Brian so much I have consented to get the latest iPhone software update, a move I had previously put off because I'd heard so many people report problems with their GPS apps when going up to 4.x.
All to get the mgoblog app. Tell me why you didn't charge at least $.99 for it. Don't you have a wedding to pay for? Hey, I love free as much as the next cheapskate, but I would have forked over the dough. Steve Jobs gotta eat too.
I am sick of Tom Brady's bad 70s porn hair.
Hmm the Denard Wallpaper link is sending me to some recruiting prospect blog.
"We can all only swarm to the crater where he crash landed and pick through the debris for souvenirs."
Any chance of adding push notifications anytime a main page post is added or something like this?
That would be really cool, but would involve work on Brian's end, as well as mine. It has been mentioned before, so it's on the list.
Does anyone know if the new MGoBlog App is available for the iPad too? I tried downloading it last night to no avail. Thanks in advance.
I was wondering if there is any video floating around out there to see the M[arshall] Banner fail? I'd love to see the fail that is all the running around like a bunch of idiots and the whiffing...
It's extremely...interesting...for Notre Dame's head physician to appear in the New York Times two days ago saying this (RE the recently deceased UPenn football player with trauma-induced brain disease):
“It’s pretty hard to make a jump with one case,” said Dr. James Moriarity, the’s head physician, who oversees the athletic department’s medical care. “But if it’s true that that happened, it would kill the sport,” he said, referring to an amateur player getting C.T.E. “As a parent, it’s going to be hard to justify kids going out and doing that.”
Setting the banner too high has happened with us before too. But only very rarely. When I uploaded the 1980 Illinois game last year, I got a chuckle over all the players who couldn't reach the banner. Most of them didn't even bother trying to touch it.
:51 seconds in...
I've been an addicted mgoblog reader for a few years but never signed up/posted. But as soon as I got the app-- I had to get on here to say thank you!! Well done!
Android, Android.....please, someone get it together!!!
Great except ufr crashes it.
Using an iPhone 4 with iOS 4.1 on a 3G connection when it crashed, it failed after trying to load the UFR and dumped me to the home screen in iOS. Hope that helps with the QA.
see the post regarding version 1.0.1
if "might and main" can add a comment to his empty post, it would work. Until then, you'll have to wait for the update (hopefully in the store by next Saturday)
my older iphone can't run iOS4, unfortunately...any reason it couldn't be ported for iPhone OS 3.x?
I kid... sort of. It's worth it though!
I wanted to use iAd, that's why there's the iOS4 restriction.
I'll look into it, though non iOS4 users are now a minority, and getting smaller.
What about a Blackberry app?
So I was overjoyed to see a mgoblue app... but it's all buggy :( it keeps reloading whenever I click a link. Like the link will begin to load and I see words, then it reloads.
