I'm afraid to ask this, but did you really use an Ohio State fan to develop this app?
Unverified Voracity Unveils App
App: extant. The MGoBlog iPhone app is live in the Apple App Appstore:
It's free, and will still be inaccessible on Gameday when 100,000 people try to text their buddy "DENENENENENAAAARD." But if you're on an iPhone it's better than webbin' it. Guilt at lack of Android app: severe. If there are any Android developers out there interested in a revshare deal to create one, email me.
Send us your sons. Since it's football season we'll forgo the full breakdown of Glenn Robinson III, Michigan's freshest basketball recruit and the son of Glenn Robinson (II, I guess), that guy who played for Purdue and was in the NBA forever. Robinson is a 6'6" wing who will arrive in 2012 (ie, the year after Carlton Brundidge and Trey Burke). Robinson's a three star rated #118 by Rivals who picked up an offer in August. UMHoops doesn't have a google-stalk yet but it's just a matter of time.
Crist concussion certain. Dude, Dayne Crist was concussed. This is from Brian Kelly:
"We had just got clearance from the TV tout to take the field. We were under a minute. That's when he said, 'Coach, I just don't remember this play.' You could look at him and you could tell that he wasn't fully in charge. So that's when we made the decision to make the change."
I'm not saying Kelly's a bad guy (though I'd be disappointed in RR if he'd done something similar) or that making a decision like that is easy, but at some point there should probably be a guy unaffiliated with either school who makes a decision about whether a player who's "dazed" can return at all. If you're out most of a half, have trouble seeing out of one eye, and are having memory issues, that's a "maybe next week" sort of injury.
TWIS for you. Some miscommunication led This Week In Schadenfreude to get posted late but you'll want to head over there for the awesome animated GIF created from the Terpstra on-field video and the Nation's reaction:
ya know what?

f--- you, and anyone who thinks this game was OK. F--- YOU!!!!!! I hate michigan with the white hot heat of 1000 suns. We should NEVER lose to thses f---ers. EAD. These fuckers should never beat us, especially like this. And, being unfortunate enouogh to be born in that godforsaken f---ing state, I will ahev to listen to the "we are better than you" shit for yet another year. F--- you.,
Where is my Jack? seriously. I need a bottle, and I need it now. Until we are 10-1.
Most of you just laughed like mad scientists, and that's okay.
This looks familiar. Via a reader comes this report of a new tradition at Marshall that seems slightly ripped off from your favorite team:
They're still getting the hang of it:
They started a “new” tradition where the players hit the M[arshall] Club banner on their way out onto the field. Its quite a circuitous route as the come out of their locker room which is in the North end zone, run up the hashes to the 50, make a right hand turn, and boom! hit the banner. Best part was they didn’t set the banner at an appropriate height (probably 10’) and only a handful of the players were able to hit it. Lots of missing going on.
You're welcome, WVU readers. We try to give something back.
More walk-ons necessary. So the annual walk-on tryouts went down:
More than 30 students participated in tryouts for the Michigan football team Monday afternoon. Rodriguez said six or seven will receive an extended look during a two-week trial period.
“A couple really caught our attention,” he said. “They might have a spot on the team.”
Major injuries. Michigan isn't the only team getting it in the nads from Angry Blank-Hating Gods. Purdue's #1 receiver and only remaining scary offensive threat in the aftermath of Ralph Bolden's injury is out for the year, which is especially painful because Smith is a senior who has taken a redshirt and will have to apply for a sixth year he may or may not get.
Also gone is Ohio State starting strong safety CJ Barnett, though Ohio State has the depth to find a suitable replacement. Not so much Purdue. Penn State's Gerald Hodges, their version of Mike Jones, will miss 4 to 8 weeks as well. MSU lost its third-string TE, so they're totally screwed.
Steal my thunder. I was totally going to do this but BWS beat me to it:
This is not the 31-yard Roy Roundtree touchdown that kicked off Michigan's scoring. It's a play on the previous drive that ended with Robinson gaining a few yards on that QB off tackle or whatever you want to call it. Look at the WRs: they're running routes. I'm not sure if this is an option for Robinson he misread, a mistake, or a proof of concept for the 'Tree TD, but Michigan saw the results and got seven points out of it. More details at the link above.
RBUAS alert. Johnny talks about the wonder that is Stephen Hopkins. No, not really:
The Saturday morning before last I woke up on an inflatable mattress on the floor of a friend’s apartment in Ann Arbor. You know how the rest goes.If you type in Denard Robinson on Google the first suggestion is "Denard Robinson Heisman." He doesn't know what they say about him on television because he doesn’t have cable. Notre Dame let him in the interview room, the first time an opposing player has been allowed in there since 1997. Dick Vitale spent Saturday afternoon telling Jalen Rose over Twitter that Denard Robinson was awesome, baby. Lebron James said he was “a monster out there right now.” Denard Robinson is operating from a different dimension. We can all only swarm to the crater where he crash landed and pick through the debris for souvenirs.
Etc.: Get your Denard wallpaper. Backstreet's back after the Ohio State win. Big Ten Hockey from the BC perspective. Personally I doubt it has any impact on further Big Ten Expansion. Brabbs dominates some more cancer. Blue Seoul picture pages the crap out of everything, including the Tate-RR hugz. Tom Brady on the cover of SI. LOL wrong Michigan QB guyz.
And, uh, this is the support website:
Yeah, I really like the part where he is talking about making a "Last Win Versus Ohio State" counter for his app.
Nobody else wanted to help out on this app?
I'm a proud Cal Bear :-)
When will you be making a sweet app like this for Android?? I'm tired of not having a Michigan app (a good one anyways) on my Droid.
or what remaining productivity I did have. The app works and looks fantastic. Great work!
Did that guy censor himself? I noticed that one "fuckers" and a "shit" made it through.
The longer SI leaves our collegiate quarterbacks and anything to do with our football team off its covers the better. I want none of the curse business.
Can't wait for the android version.... we need love too
Interesting how he says he can't protect Crist more, and has to keep the zone read in the play call rotation, "because of the spread offense." I'm sure there's a segment of the domer population spouting off about how real coaches adapt their scheme to fit their personnel. Particularly since I'm fairly certain that Crist's injury happened on a zone read keeper (he got mashed in the right side of the head by (I think) Mouton at the end of the play). Hopefully, that segment is more powerful than the similar subset of Michigan fans, and Kelly gets run out of town before he gets a chance to get his own Denard coached up and on the field.
That Kelly implied Rich Rod was being careless insofar as Denard was taking too many hits. Hopefully Crist won't suffer any long-term effects from this--scary stuff.
I know that android and OS are popular, but, there's any chance a version for Symbian comes out? i like my N97 but might have to get rid of it if this kind of apps don't see the daylight for Symbian
Heck, I'd settle for a mobile version friendly to my blackberry that was simply legible on my work phone...
I'll second this.
It's pretty harsh. Other than that, it's a good app.
I'm open to RGB values for the background color
Yikes, I'm glad Crist didn't take a shot to the head in the second half. Would've felt really bad if we gave him brain damage.
As much as I dislike ND, I have no desire to see their players carted off half-blind or worse, particularly if they were showing signs of damage and were later allowed back into the game.
5 FAKES out of 5
EDIT: well i guess it isn't fake per se, but it is a big ol rip off
another vote for a Droid app. As far as concussions go, vision and memory loss are no-brainer concussion symptoms. Kinda funny how BK is "concerned" with Denard's carries and he sends Crist back out there after a half time pep talk/amnesia cure. I pulled this from the American Family Physician website- I don't know exactly how serious this is, but it sure doesn't sound good:
Repeated concussions over a short period may lead to the second impact syndrome. In this syndrome, a concussion sustained while an athlete is still symptomatic from an earlier concussion results in progressive cerebral edema [an abnormal accumulation of serous fluid in a body cavity or cellular tissue.]
I watched the game with my younger brother, who is an Optometrist (Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris), and he was appalled at the idea of sending him back into the game at ANY point. The first words out of his mouth were "either detached retina or bad concussion," when the announcers mentioned the loss of vision in his eye.
Obviously, it wasn't the first of two possible injuries but it was a risk nonetheless.
I would add safety? plz? to that request.
have really small type? Love the app, but the type seems small, or maybe I need glasses.
I feel dumber after looking at their website (why are all the ND fans who have Internet access come via Columbus?). The quote you used here was one of my favorites, because he's dogging The State of Michigan, after having escaped to....South Bend?!? Has he ever stepped foot off of campus?
Ugh, -1 for Kelly. I would hope RRod would make a different decision, and everything I've seen of the way he cares for his players makes me think he would.
Sorry for the all caps. Just want to point out that this seems to be the wrong link for Denard wallpaper, as far as I can tell.
I thought the same thing! Hopefully it gets fixed, because I want some Denard wallpapers.
The wallpaper link you're looking for might be a diary called "Wallpaper Denard-aganza". Just a guess. I saw the diary by shorts a few hours ago and he had some nice Denard wallpapers there.
Here's link to commonly used citeria to grade concussions.
Typically depends on whether you have post traumatic amnesia (and how long it lasts), loss of consciousness, and if this is the first concussion or not. For Crist, if you count that he couldn't remember the previous play as post traumatic amnesia (which probably yes, but debatable because a few seconds is much less than 30 minutes) then he should have been held out of the game entirely.
Find your gig dudes
Seriously, with all the talk about head injuries and permanent brain damage, How In The World do you put that kid back in if he can't fraking see out of one eye!?!?!?!?! I would have been looking to get Crist a brain scan immediately to make sure he didn't have a brain bleed or a blood clot or something. I mean, not seeing out of one eye can be a sign of stroke. I hope he doesn't have any permanent damage and that Crist's mother comes in and gives Kelly and his entire staff a piece of her mind. (That's what I would do if he were my kid, that's for sure.)
I noticed using the app today that I can actually watch youtube videos on it, didn't think they worked on ipods.
Because on the Touch there's a You Tube App front paged.
You can watch YouTube videos on iPhones, iPads, and iPods. It is Flash media you can't access. Downloading the new app now! 8>)
After reading the breakdown of the play-action TD to Roundtree on BWS, damn. Not damn because it was an awesome sequence of plays (which it was), but damn, I wish I had the ability to notice things like that in a football game. It would add so much value to the viewing experience.
I have always disliked Brian Kelly for a number of reasons, most of which is his arrgance and lack of respect for anyone outside of his own program. After watching him belittle his qb's on Saturday constantly dropping F-Bombs in their face and playing a QB that obviously had been concussed I have zero respect for this guy and I hope he's run out of South Bend quicker then the previous two coaches.
Yeah the F-bombs were uncalled for, but risking your own players health like that is a disgrace.
tastic. Now not only will I work less, but I won't have to tap as much to access all the greatness here. Love it!
Not cool, Marshall. Not cool. You might as well play the Victors as your players try to reach the banner for this new tradition.
to demonstrate the New App features the Board thread about the weeks-old "rating" of Michigan's QB combo as 44th in the nation. We were right behind Tulsa, right?
It was pretty hyped up in Huntington that night, only to have the Herd blow it. I am a Michigan Alum working for Marshall and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the banner. They even ripped off the "M Club Supports You"
To see the full sequence check here: http:[email protected]/
I like that it is simple (loads fast) but, there isn't a place to upvote/downvote as far as I can see. Also, the text seems just a bit small, and its not possible to zoom. Is there going to be any updates that address these issues?
Voting is on the list, but it'll require some work on both ends (mine and Brian's).
As for the font being too small... maybe? The beta testers didn't mention it, but I can consider bumping it up a point or two. Open to other opinions. I'm ok with the current size.
I'd love me some larger font. Especially on the landscape.
Your beta testers were probably all youthful.
But some of us are those horrible "down in front" types who are peering through bifocals.
Simple fix - turn your iPhone on it's side in landscape it enlarges to fit the screen which appears ample to me and my eyes are going on me - I do agree with there needs to be an auto size feature when going to linked articles and I'm noticing now the replies screen doesn't auto scroll so you can see what you're typing while you're typing it - other than that I love the app
does make the text a bit bigger, so, I guess I can't really complain too much. i just think it needs to be a bit bigger. Elaydin mentioned that he may bump up the text size just a bit, so, that should take care of that.
Other than these few items, it is a pretty sweet app. (FINALLY!!)
