so much for that
Uniformz Doom At Hand?
An eagle-eyed user caught this: the M-Den is now listing something hardly different from the doomiform the Free Press published and Dave Brandon laughed at:
That looks official what with its number and the Adidas logo and looking all like a thing that exists in the world. You still can't buy one (it errors out when you click on the monstrosity) but I think it's official enough to say that Michigan is going to look very, very stupid when they take the field against Notre Dame.
(new scoreboards new scoreboards new scoreboards not a cesspool of filth and corruption so deep Sepp Blatter is impressed deep breaths)
They are not super bad, but I would like to see a few things changed. I wish the block M looked more like the block M; lose the stitching. Also, I think the stripes should stop at the shoulders and not go down the whole arm. Obviously I would prefer our regular uniforms, but it could be worse; for instance an Arby's logo in the corner.

i think they are alright. i'd buy one if i got tickets to the game. i dont like the mosaic tile Block M or number.
Spartan's Alphabet: ADEFGHIJKLMNOPQRTUVWXYZ.
they are not very good, but with pants and the helemt, I may like them!
"They're stuck with that quarterback (sophomore Braxton Miller) for the next two or three years, that's fine with me. He throws worse than (Tim) Tebow. - Steve Everitt
I'm in the minority, but I like them (for one game).
I could do without the webbing in the Block M though.
Sorta soccer-ish in appearance.
......and hideous.
"the Spirit of Michigan...is based on a deathless loyalty to Michigan and all her ways....and a conviction that nowhere is there a better university, in any way, than this Michigan of ours" - Fielding Yost
That was the first thing that I thought when I first saw them. I am not a fan. I think that ND game is big enough and would prefer to see the normal home uniform.
You can sum up this sport in two words, 'You never know.'
Thank you. I couldn't put my finger on why these uniforms didn't feel right to me but you've answered the question. They are soccer uniforms.
Beat ND. Seriously are we expected to like the throwback jerseys? If we liked them wouldn't the team have kept them all these years? Throwbacks are supposed to celebrate the history of the team, not their historical sense of fashion.
I just destroyed that toilet with a huge Rosenberg.
But then how can these be explained?
beauty -->
stupidity
awesome -->
hideous

To be fair the current Canucks jersey looks pretty sweet with a color scheme that is very pacific-northwestey
"I just hope Tressel doesn't fire me"

But nothing will ever top those Canuck jerseys with the V stripes. Those were awful.
those instantly make my top five most ugly jersey list ever. Funny this made it to the manufacturer before someone stepped in front of it. The jersey is ugly enough without the holiday theme.
Nobody who ever gave his best regretted it.
YES YES this is the first image that popped into my mind when i saw the jersey on the front page. i see i was not the only one.
meanwhile, these things are an abomination. kinda like this guy:

Well, DB's evil scheme worked. I find I can live with this better than the Maize (YELLOW!) jerseys that were trotted out.
"You're fat and you're mine". Bo to Dan Dierdorf.
Side note: You realize that not only Maize = Yellow, but historically Michigan's shade of Maize was actually brighter than the current shade.

Historically from when? I've been watching Michigan football since the 60's and the shade has gotten more hiliter yellow over the years. And yes Yellow = Maize, but Maize is a specific shade of Yellow.

"Maize" is a lot closer to the "hilighter yellow" you're complaining about than the ugly gold is.
Brighter is better and more historically accurate (there IS a history before the '50s, believe it or not). I'm on your lawn and not moving.

Personally, I think all throwbacks look stupid, so this one is fine with me.
"Are you Bluish? You don't look Bluish..."
the Denver Broncos throwbacks a couple years ago (vs. New England, IIRC) were ugly as fuck.
"I promise you we would have walked to the University of Michigan." - Brady Hoke
Maybe they confused our football jerseys with futball jerseys?
Denard will rock this uniform, I guaruntee it.
Photography Facebook Page. Lots of Michigan sports photos. And planes, lots of planes:

The block M looks stupid, and the rest looks like a soccer uniform.
Denard has spent the offseason working really hard and smiling at people.
Where do those even come from. All blue with the block M I could handle
This might be arrogant, and if it is, it is, but we're Michigan
Why would it be in the "Big Chill" section of MDen?
I find your lack of faith disturbing.
Glad to know that Brian reads the MGoBoard. Knowing that he probably read one of my posts in the past makes my heart jump a little, just like when I met Mila Kunis in Santa Monica.
"It would be a travesty, it would be ridiculous to all of a sudden come back and get the feeling back, get the health back, feel good again and then all of a sudden go throw some other colors on my shirt and go coach."
FWIW, there was a rumor floating around yesterday that there is a presser scheduled for this Friday night to unveil the throwbacks, which might explain MDen jumping the gun on putting it on the site today.
...Twitterfeed confirms Fri, 8 pm announcement.
chengelis Michigan will unveil its uniform for night game vs ND at 8 pm Friday. Announcement will be live-streamed on MGoBlue.com
Plus, there's this:
LSA '89 - MBB Natl Champions, Big 10/Rose Bowl Champions | @MGoShoe
the MDen feels the same way as 100% of the rest of us and are just pulling a vicious elaborate prank. They'd better be or they'll be stuck with truckloads of unsold craptastic jerseys.
How many times have you been on the freeway and had someone fly by you at 100 mph then end up 2 cars ahead of you at the off ramp? What's the point? -Mark Harmon
FWIW, Scout (paywall board, Tom Beaver) says an official announcement will be coming down from the athletic department on Friday night, sooo the timing of this going up on the MGo website makes that rumor seem a little more credible...

Maybe it's just me, or it's just the photo, but they look like overalls.
Eating is murder.
Everyone is acting like they are changing our jersey to this full time. It is one game, it will be fun. Big Chill was awesome despite the goofy jerseys, yes/no?
Show me one alternate jersey idea/design/whatever that any other team has trotted out that people unanimously liked.
Excellence is Good
Maybe the fact that so many fans in so many places loathe their throwbacks means that they should never have been worn in the first place.
All throwbacks are is another ploy by which athletic departments separate fans from their wallets and common sense. I wouldn't wear that faux UM "throwback" jersey if it was given to me for free.
I would use it to mop up dog vomit and oil spills though.
and don't buy one. There, problem solved, now quit complaining.
That's a pretty cynical way of looking at it.
Look at baseball. There's plenty of franchises that have successfully used throwbacks to honor teams and players of the past. The Angels and Dodgers are doing a great job this season with season-long throwback games for specific reasons. The Twins have decided to honor Harmon Killebrew by wearing their 60's throwbacks at home for the rest of the season. The MLB's Negro League tribute games are always interesting.
If Michigan put together a design you liked, maybe you'd feel differently. Personally, when done right, throwback uniforms are pretty great. Always cool to see something old-school come back, like the really great '89 unis the basketball team wore two years ago to honor the championship team. Or the current home hockey jerseys.

Cool shirt for tossing a football around while tailgating? Yes.
Official jersey for the game? No....no.
Could be worse considering we don't have anything else in which to throwback, I keep telling myself...
