I attribute this improvement to Barwis' strenuous mental workouts.
i refuse to even consider this a possibility
I attribute this improvement to Barwis' strenuous mental workouts.
I have no doubt that this is all Barwis.
Last I heard, erosion has revealed a stretch of Barwis Beach that reaches all the way to study hall.
...and the chocolate milk
I attribute global warming to Barwis' strenuous mental workouts.
Zoltan's 34.0 helps.
It is, however, almost completely nullified by Stevie Brown's -26.0
using only their cerebellums. The only downside is that Jon Falk is having to order new custom-designed helmets to accommodate the larger, more heavily-muscled brains the team is now sporting.
Yeah, but on the plus side, they've also gained some telekinetic abilities from it. QB's tripping over their own feet will be at an all time high.
...they have learned how to blow shit up with their minds...a al "Accepted"
Just curious what the GPA is.
The GPA is the Grade Point Average, which is a method for measuring your academic acheivement.
I would like to think that I would be smart enough to know what a GPA is given that I have a grad degree from Michigan! I saw that Northwestern posted their first-ever GPA north of 3,0 recently, so I would love to compare the two.
MADE OF WIN!
I think he meant the number, not what GPA means. Should my sarcasm meter be going off?
in one of his little "promo stop videos" that someone had posted on here.
BUT I THOUGHT LLOYD LEFT THE MENTAL CUPBOARD BARE?!?!?!
Justin Boren was really bringing down the average before last year.
Meanwhile, his time sent being a moron at Michigan actually makes him the smartest guy in school at OSU.
That is definitely great to hear. It just makes me glad to see Rich Rod disprove all his detractors one after the other.
I was going to say the exact same thing. Its definitely a breath of fresh air from all of the RR critics.
Rich Rod has always said he wants MOTIVATED players.
It's not that much of a stretch to see classroom motivation mirror on-field motivation.
4.0, I'm sure Martavious Odoms dropped a couple of classes, and Stevie Brown let a few assignments go past him that were easy to tackle.
I logged in so I could +1 you. Nice work.
Hey Waggle, that's what the new point system is for. Next time just hit up and leave it at that.
Not necessarily. It doesn't hurt to publicly say you agree with something.
jg just wrapped up the MGoHeisman with this comment.
negative about RR, it seems to me like evidence comes out saying..not so fast my friend.
Paper Shreding: WVU fans and others call him Shredriguez. Turns out, he shreded his own papers when more were supposed to be on file elsewhere.
Buyout: Sounds in the end like Michigan itself was the one that was fighting that, not RR.
Family Values: Numerous players have spoken favorably about the family atmosphere.
Thug players: The team sports a very good GPA now.
In-state recruiting: RR has landed plenty of top in-state kids (not to mention great out-of-state ones)
Yeah. He said the F word once.
I once saw him eat a golden retriever puppy in front of a crying little girl.
If you're talking about Barwis I believe you.
but Barwis actually swiped in after and attached one of those squat machines to the crying girl. She needed to "man up" apparently, and stop crying. When she couldn't do it, he ate her.
My brother-in-law (you know, he coaches football) said that he went to a thing this one time and RR swore. Not just once either, but a couple times. Yeah, I love my brother-in-law and will always believe anything he says...always. He's awesome. If he wasn't busy banging my sister all the time, I'd try and get in on that.
How awful. He should spend his time doing better things, like getting into fights or getting DUIs.
He knows how to say "fuck" ... and his mother should wash his mouth out with soap.
It should be front and center at MGoBlue. There's already an article there today about B10 academic awards for UM athletes in general, and this should be a companion piece. I would think that Bill Martin would want this news to be shouted from the rooftops immediately, and restricting it to paid subscribers at Rivals doesn't get the job done at all. PR job FAIL.
hooray for smartness
a coincidence that the worst team in 40 years is the smartest team in the last 20 years.
If this rule applies to guys like it does to girls, this is probably the ugliest team in history as well.
yeah, what a bunch of nerds.
RR has been getting far too much flack from people for claims that have never been substantiated, so it is great news to hear. Also, the Vlad piece on family values refutes those clowns as well.
Does it actually list what the GPA is or is it only described as the highest ever? I would love to compare it to ND's :)
Why don't you tell us ND's team GPA and we'll tell you whether ours is better?
No offense Irish, but it's kind of apples to oranges. Comparing GPA's across schools isn't always very accurate. Some schools have far stricter grading scales than others. The best way to compare would be to look at the average GPA at each school, and see how the football team compares to the average student.
For example, if the UM average is 3.10 (about what it was when I was there) and the football team's is also 3.1, and the ND average is 3.4 and the football team is 3.2, which team is actually doing better academically?
Talk to a UM student/alum about the type of classes and treatment UM football players get. Most are pretty blunt about it. Of course, there's this too:
here we go again. please, regale us on how EVERY ND student *has* to take calculus.
the :) was supposed to mean it was kind just a funny post and not so serious but it seems to have failed. I will try to make it more obvious next time.
Well, you half meant it. But you're ok, it's Dana that's kind of douchebaggish.
Look, I know Notre Dame admits plenty of higher academically performing athletes. But let's stop pretending every athlete at ND is, you know, there to get a biochem degree.
Edit: I'm not trying to belittle the players, but sadly I need to use their test scores to prove a point.
Their test scores don't really jive w/ their GPA's.
Not trying to be a douchebag, sorry.
But don't invent arguments I didn't make. I would never argue that all ND players are brilliant. I'd also never argue that all ND players are smarter than all Michigan players. Plenty of guys with bad or mediocre test scores get into ND. The point is that once in school, ND players have to do serious work in the classroom. More so than Michigan. Again, not trying to be a dick, but anyone who has experience with both schools knows this and will admit it if they're being honest. That's why I'm saying a GPA comparison would be silly.
Anyway, I don't want to start a stupid argument over this. So I'll end by admitting that ND football as blown over the past 15 years and Michigan football has been better over the same period.
(But I'm still feeling pretty good about a win this year in the Big House hehe )
Oh come the fuck on dude. That retarded example of "investigative journalism" has already been thoroughly discredited. I'm sure all ND players are top notch students.
Nicely said, ShockFX, you sure told that asshole ShockFX. I don't think ShockFX is going to step to ShockFX anytime soon.
ju replied to joself, pinche
I don't think you have comments displayed like I do. I didn't actually reply to myself. Threaded expanded should show this.
i'll be over here
a thousand apologies
Don't want to be Mr. Negative, but it could be that the entire school's GPA was higher last year.
That being said, it's still impressive, because I'm sure there was more scrutiny of "independent study" arrangements last year in the wake of the AA News investigative report. In other words, it's likely that the students took harder classes and got better grades.
Congrats to the team and the coaches.
Why am I the first one asking about him?
Too bad he isn't writing for the AANews/mlivethingy/AAOnline any longer.
I'm sure this story will garner the same front/home page love that the "investigation" did last year.
(Of course, there's always Rosenberg to provide the same insight at the freep.)
Way to go, Shari Acho! (She's the lead academic advisor to the team.)
Who knew all that chocolate milk made you smarter, too?
Who needs Bowl Games? BCS or GPA? G! P! A!
Seriously, did we come up with a working definition of GPA?
I have a Doctorate Degree from U Givashit, and am confused.
Also, I want to compare our teams curriculum with other teams.
Do players at ND really have the option of taking History of the
University of Michigan? Roman Sports and Daily Leisure?
Waves and Beaches?
I am really glad this team displayed so much smartitude last year.
I tutored some of the players this past year. I think I'll come in for my share of the credit.
No, seriously, credit NOW!
I know it isn't due to Stevie's Brown geometry exams
I don't know why you got 2 negatives for this.
I was in Wermers' German class which was the 3rd easiest class to get an A in that I've ever taken. He pulled off a C and was thrilled. Don't say that his decommitment hasn't contributed in any way.
Congratulations on never in your life being thrilled with an achievement that someone else would consider mediocre. It must be nice never being challenged because everything comes so damn easy to you.
