Get your welp on:

There had been rumbles the last couple days to the effect that Battle would take a visit to Syracuse, who had been one of his presumed leaders along with Duke before his commitment to Michigan.

It's unclear at this point how open his recruitment is, but in general schools that suffer a decommit do not get the kid back. How Syracuse remains appealing after Jim Boeheim got blasted by the NCAA remains a bit of a mystery.

Michigan was very strong with AL SF Josh Langford before Battle committed on his official visit and will probably look to re-open serious contact with him immediately.

The kid obviously really likes Coach Beilein and Michigan.  If he needs to visit other schools to make his family happy, so be it.  But the odds are still in Michigan's favor, IMO.  My impression when Battle announced Michigan as his choice was that his family thought the decision was abrupt but not that they thought it was a bad decision.

I kind of had the same thoughts, but the problem is, you have to go after someone else to take his spot (i.e. Langford).  If Langford commits, he's not going to.  Which isn't a bad thing.  But if Langford doesn't commit, they're going to have look elsewhere.  I say this all without knowing when Langford is planning to announce, so obviously timing is important too.

Looks like his dad won out. Battle himself seems like he loves Michigan though, so there's still a pretty good chance he comes back. Full court press for Langford.

Either way wish the kid the best.  What will be will be.  Who was the last Syracuse player that turned out to be good?  Carmelo?  Fab and Waiters are pretty terrible, as was Flynn.

Not too worried honestly. He's just checking out another school and we'll reach out to other players. Beilein will get the most out of his players regardless, so at this point.....it is what it is.

I'd prefer Langford over anyone, but hopefully they haven't fallen behind for Battle or Bridges too because of this. That's where recruiting so many fewer players and the talent pool being so much smaller in basketball hurts. You shut things down after your position is full, makes this one sting.

I'll also add that people should be blasting Battle here. Good chance he's still interested in Michigan and he's likely a player Michigan is still very interested in having.

... for having the guts to make a decision like this.  It's not easy to admit you want to change your mind after making a decision in front of the entire country.

Assuredly false, but interesting speculation as to reason for de-commit:  Since Harbaugh has arrived at Michigan he is garnering so much attention for the football program that we are being seen as a full fledged football school again.  He wants to go to a school where basketball is the focus.

"How Syracuse remains appealing after Jim Boeheim got blasted by the NCAA remains a bit of a mystery."  Ever since reading the Bagman article in SI, I find myself wondering if the real reason behind these abrupt changes in recruiting might be a little dough-re-me.  I'm not saying that is what happened because, obviously, I know less the jack-____ about Mr. Battle's circumstances.  I wish him the best of luck in picking whatever school is best for him, whether it's Syracuse, Michigan or whoever, and hope he is happy and successful wherever he lands.  But, to use a historical analogy, does everyone remember when Leonard Fournette, out of the blue, was going to show up for the BBQ on his own nickel?  We all wondered what we were doing right to get a kid to pay his own way from deep in the heart of the SEC to visit Ann Arbor.  After a lot of hemming and hawing and not showing-up when he said he would, Mr. Fournette never did visit Michigan, and subsequently signed with LSU.  Just sayin' ... that matches perfectly the description in the SI article of how a recruit strong-arms a payment out of one school's booster to not go on a recruiting trip to another school.  Call me a low-minded individual, but I can't help wondering even as I hope it's not true.
