Time to dig out the "just jump already" tag: this forum thread may be annoyingly phrased but does
Also apparently Sam Webb has it on Scout.
Current corner depth chart:
1. JT Floyd / random freshman
I guess Woolfolk can redshirt. So there's that.
Statement from Michigan Head Coach Rich Rodriguez
Troy Woolfolk suffered a lower body injury during practice this afternoon and was transported to U-M Hospital with our team physician. We can’t comment further due to medical privacy rights.
UPDATE II: Getting reports it is a dislocated ankle, which is in all likelihood season-ending.
Loves your optimism.
Everyone on this board is feeling sorry for himself.
How do you think his teamates feel?
How do you think the coaches feel?
There is only 1 thing we fans can do:
Support the team.
support the team.
A dislocated ankle with a fracture-sprain requires an average of 18 to 20 weeks to heal completely.
.... how about to heal enough to be better than a true freshman?
I could have spent the offseason somewhere nice and peaceful, like a Northern Korean labor camp. But nooooo, I wanted to live somewhere with working TCP/IP. Now where the hell is the tequila?
I think a bigger part of our season will now be on the front 7 (or 6 in a 3-3-5). Michigan has had good luck with a "Meh" Secondary when coupled with Branch and Woodley killing the QB in the backfield. If our younger DBs can step up and contain the WRs for the 5 seconds it takes us to sack the QB or force him to make a bad throw, we can still contain other teams to a degree.
of course, i started drinking tequila (hornitos - the best of the worst) before i got this news. now i'll just drink more!
here is to true freshman lights out corners, since those come along all the time! i'm not even sure that the big let downs on D last year were corners, it mostly seemed like LB's in coverage who forgot to cover their man, so, um, yeah, there is that to believe in.
i guess if we can score 35-40 a game, we will be in the running, so I'm not giving up hope yet!
i wonder why RR refer to "a lower body injury". Would this be quite obvious if it's a foot, ankle, or leg injury?
I'd like to go one week without some disaster hitting M football, and having to obsess about it and never get off of here. This is just unbelievable. I'm beginning to think the Cap One Bowl was a mirage. Because since Bo died, we seem to be cursed. It's not even laughable anymore. It just hurts.
As absolutely awful as many of us feel, I assure you that no one feels worse about this than Troy Woolfolk himself.
That said, I think this could be the universe's way of setting us up for this amazing, dramatic, against-all-odds, David vs. Goliath kind of season. We have absolutely everything to fight for, and maybe all of this drama and all of these...set-backs...will make every win that much sweeter.
Hope dies last.
But we need more of your optimism in these times. And your cookies. Cookies always make you feel better. I need a cookie.
Its amazing how one piece of news can lower my win total expectation by 2 or 3 games
Ever the optimist, here is my best positive take on the situation. I know it is bad. However, better now than right before September 4. At least there are a few weeks to face the situation and get everyone ready. You have to go with the guys you have, and we will do that, and win.
A star can always be born.
we are loaded in cb next year if woolfolk is medical redshirted. hope RR can get enough wins to stay.

Fuck that. My response:
I'd embed it, but I'm too old to understand the ways of the Google machine.
EDIT: Wolverine318 beat me too it, and is wise in the ways of great communicator.
Can we have worse luck? I mean, come on...it is almost like we have become the Chicago Cubs or something.
Clearly Cullen and Avery are going to be the front runners. The rest of the guys are either unready, or really true safeties.
Cullen will have to have a Marlin Jackson type of freshman run for us to stay alive.
You know the worst part? I'm a Cubs fan too.
Yup, pretty much sums up how I feel.
While everyone on here wallows in their own despair, I would like to point out that this would be much worse if it happened, for example, in the first half of the Uconn game. There is almost three whole weeks before the season begins, giving the entire defensive unit the opportunity to address the loss of Woolfork before it is go time. Our defensive front will take on the responsibility and challenge that this injury creates to wreak even more havoc up front, and quite honestly, very few teams passing games scare me at all on our schedule.
Nice use of Woolfork. I had forgotten about that one.
Did that kid officially leave yet or what?
Maybe it's because I just found my favorite cat dead an hour ago, but my first thoughts on this are not about the impact on the 2010 Michigan football record. I was greatly enjoying Woolfolk's public passion and leadership. He knew this was his year to shine, to put up some accomplishments that would stand alongside those of his dad - and now that's not happening. If he's not depressed right now, he will be sometime shortly.
We can only hope that an immediate ride to the hospital doesn't indicate an Antonio Bass kind of injury, and that Troy will be physically and mentally ready to make the most of his next chance.
I know that the video game doesn't have any bearing on real life, but.... Al Backey had to start on my NCAA 11 team half way through the season and he was really good. He wasn't really fast, or athletic, but he just put himself in the right spot to make plays time and again. He finished the fictional year with three INT returns for TD's and I kept saying to myself, "Who is Al Backey?" Here's to hope, and our team coming together even more to overcome all odds. Go Blue!!!
That guy looks eerily familiar.
What I wouldn't give for another wingless helmet, or Tate v. Denard post right about now. Sighhhhh, I miss those already.
I am generally not a sky-is-falling kind of fan, but this injury, to this player at that position is an unmitigated disaster. This program has been snake-bitten since Bo died.
This program has been snake-bitten since Bo died.
I was actually thinking about this other day and about to write a diary on it. My research isn't done and I haven't come to a solid conclusion yet, but it cannot be denied that on the whole, something has been terribly wrong since Bo died and I just wish it would stop.
The personality of this team is moving back to toughness, hard work, and teamwork. Michigan is on its way back to being Michigan. Players will step up
God Bless Troy, prayers and such. We're with you
You too Floyd, Rogers, Christian, Avery, Talbott, T. Jones. And Turner, now would be a good time to beg forgiveness, admit you F'd up, and ask to come back to help your team
can this guy play CB?
This really sucks, but did any of us - really, truly? - believe that the angry-Michigan-football-and-especially-CB-hating-god was just going to let us skate past this season at our weakest position? I hoped for the best, but feared the worst.
Maybe, as some have already pointed out, we're lucky it didn't happen once the actual season had started. Still, this is just about the most suckity sucking demonstration of suck I've ever seen.
Seems like Angry Michigan Safety Hating God got super wasted and misfired. Dammit!
Question for the masses: was Woolfolk that big of a game changing CB that we are all in a panic because of this loss? Obviously it makes us more vulnerable but is this equivalent to losing a starting qb? Or already changing Wins to losses?
...over the past months where some tool would ask for the 3rd time that day "Who is the one guy on offense/defense that we can't afford to lose?" and the answer for the defense was ALWAYS Troy Woolfolk?
He could play both corner and safety, and reliably which is not something you could say about our secondary. Think of how good it is to have an above average guard move over to tackle or center due to injury. That's part of what we lose here.
Plus everything gets magnified when you look at how thin our secondary is in terms of experience. When you throw in how much each win means for our coach and program, then you get the whole armageddon feeling.
Ok, first off, we have a fifth yr sr thats 6.1 and runs a 4.44 40 & hes a cornerback and his name is james rogers. Why the hell is he not on the field. I thought rich rod is all about speed. Ohh!!, thats right, he's a loyd carr recruit. Rich rod does not like any of them, even if he was a four star coming out of high school. That's why mallet, manningham, etc, etc, etc left. I like rich rods offense, but where the hell is his brain. Still in west virgina I think.
I heard Rich Rod's been combing the campus for walk on DB's. He needs to look out of state. I'm over 30, I run a sub-7 second fake 40, and amazingly I still have 4 years of eligibility. I'm stretching as we speak.....wait.....well, shit...nevermind, I just pulled something. Try the drama club RR.
stretching as we speak....LOL. All the QB's on our schedule are salivating over this recent event. Kovacs - All Big Ten candidate!!!
Warren: Well, this year sucked.
Woolfolk: Yeah, they were all like "your defensive backs suck" all fall.
Turner: And no bowl game...
Warren: I'm sooooo bored.
Woolfolk: Me too.
Mike Williams: Guys -- hey guys -- let's all do something crazy, like tell everyone we're the "World Wide Web" cause three of us have W's in our name.
Warren: Shut up, Mike.
Williams: Dude, it would be cool. World Wide Web!
Turner: That's stupid. But we could pull a prank. Like make Michigan fans think all of us are going to be gone next year.
Woolfolk: Oh yeah, how're we gonna do that?
Gordon: What's up you guys?
Williams: We're the "World Wide Web" --- get it, cause we're all W's and we cover everything
Turner: No, guys, it would be totally hilarious. Donovan: you're draft-eligible, right?
Warren: Yeah, but I'm not gonna get drafted...
Turner: Doesn't matter. You pretend like you've declared for the draft and are leaving, and then late in the summer I will act like I'm transferring.
Woolfolk: Dude, they won't buy it.
Warren: No, he's right: then what about Troy? They'll still pin all their hopes on Troy.
Turner: He's the best -- a few weeks before the season, he'll go down with a "lower body injury"
Williams: World. Wide. Web. It would be perfect.
Woolfolk: But guys, I know the fans were hard on us but do we really want to put them through that?
Turner: The fans? Dude -- we're doing to f- with UConn. By the time they see all of us taking the field the fans will be so jubilant they won't what we did!
Williams: Well what about me, guys? Are you gonna have me come up with like I can't play because I have become the Internet or something?
Warren: No, Mike, we'll tell them you're starting.
Cam Gordon: Okay, now you're just being fucking cruel.
wrote this before I saw the "chat" series. I am seriously out-done.
I'm not going to be able to have babies my dong has been punched too many times.
Patience. hopefully it isn't as bad as we think.
