the just released schedules were a flat-out statement that the B10 doesn't believe SOS will matter in playoff selection
Triple OT Bowl Explosion Muppets
WOW. Just wowwww! Basketball at the Big House!
What a crazy game. Just got home, listening to the highlights on WTKA. Poor Frank Beckmann is gonna be having some laryngitis. For that matter, so am I.
GO BLUUUUUUE!!!!!!
(Edit: Inadvertently posted this as reply to BillyShears... sorry. Here's a +1 for your troubles.)
I automatically downvote "B1G"
When it was all over, I felt like I had back at the 1989 NCAA National Semifinals: UM 83, Illini 81.
Taking it one week at a time
than winning a game 67-65 is losing a gaime 67-65. It's still a +1 in the W column, so I'll take it.
Now maybe the boys can relax, have fun, and play football. The harder they've tried the worse they've done of late. Time for a good old-fashioned blow out over Purdue!
I think there is plenty worse than winning a game 67-65.
Unbelievable. I just watched the OT again. The tipped ball immaculate reception by Hemingway in OT2 provided the proof this was destiny.
Go Blue!
"This is Michigan fergodsakes."
Our season fell apart against Illinois last year, so it seems fitting that we could turn things around against them today. Keep it rolling!
The only way this could feel better is if we would have stopped Leshoure on the 4th and inches in the 2nd overtime to seal the victory. We fell apart after a goalline stand last year, it would have been nice to see it reciprocated.
That being said, its pretty nice when my only complaint is about a better way to win the game!
Those who stay will be champions!
based on the commentary from this site about our secondary, ending the game on a near sack from pressure was the only way to end that game.
I watched the combo move between RVB and Roh 10 times in a well, basically, in a Roh.
just imagine the QB's thoughts going through his head,
"oh shit! oh shit! oh shit! no where to run, no where to run, did I leave the oven on at the apartment? oh crap I'm still in this play! why doesn't it just end? no where to run, just fling ball into the air, it's hopeless, I'm so sad, doom, doom, doom, doom..."
"That's all there is...there isn't anymore"
"Again?" You say that like you watched it once. It's been played a half-dozen times here. We enjoyed watching Mike Barwin wipe a tear from his eye six times.
Candace: No... That why they make smart word box for tell monkey hard brain-hurty things.
Phineas: Removing prepositions makes it more condescending.
I look foward to watching WolverineHistorian's recap of the game on Youtube
Good game
Alright, I hate to admit it, but as a senior I don't know the significance of us playing these two. I know when the band plays them and all that, but how the two songs become so connected to the marching band?
I was sharing the joys of MGoBlog with my dad and he asked why Michigan plays these songs. I felt dumb. Please enlighten me.
I know from experience dude. If you know what I mean.
back in 1977, so it's a tradition that predates me. I've never really thought about it.
via MVictors:
Jerry Bilik’s "Temptation" and "War Chant" were performed first as part of two different half time shows in the mid 1950s. As is done now, highlights of half time shows were performed at postgame shows. Both feature the percussion section and both were immediately popular with the members of the band and the public. War Chant was first performed with a dance–one of George Cavender’s most imaginative creations. The clarinets were to dance like "wild" Hawaiians on hot coals.
It should be noted that "Hawaiian War Chant" was performed around 1950 by the MMB in an arrangement by Jack Lee. Besides "Temptation" and "Hawaiian War Chant", Jerry Bilik wrote several other percussion features: "I Got Rhythm", "Pick Up Sticks", "Log-o-rhythms", "I’ve Got Hawaiian Temptation" (a weird combination of all three), and probably others that I cannot think of at the moment.
None ever reached the acceptance as did "Temptation" and "Hawaiian War Chant.” The phrase used by the announcer, "You can’t have one without the other…" was coined by Dan Spaulding, the MMB announcer before H. H. Hanson. He said the phrase on the spot for a postgame show.
...the Canadians make up for it with their emotion and classic ice-dancing skill.
The band kicked some ass today too.
"I love him, he's a great coach, he's a great mentor, he's a great friend. He's every single thing you want a college coach to be, and he does it flawlessly." -David Molk
Temptation and War Chant were arranged for the MMB by Jerry Bilik, a composer who also wrote M Fanfare (among other things). He was one of the main arrangers for the MMB a long time ago. Playing T&W predates my time in the MMB by a lot, so I'm not sure when they started playing it... I just know we play it.
People have posted good info above, but just FYI I posted a thread about Temptation this past off-season asking about its history with the MMB, and got some great responses. You may want to Google it and check it out, the responses were quite informative.

Zook thought putting 65 points up at the Big House would get it done...

man i'm about dead. i feel good. i don't know i don't know. what if we beat purdue, what if we re-establish some momentum....what if we pull off a shocker against wiscy? or OSU?
i'd put this season in the unparalleled success category.
i'm ready to live again damn it!
and if I appeared first as an elderly man and not as a young one
was played on the PA....i think it may have had something to do with the bobble game saving catch by Junior.
i thought my head was going to explode into confetti when that happened.
good luck, for us, for once! my god!

Am I reading that correctly? They played the bed intruder song? I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry about the RAWK they're playing.
Seven nation army could be heard through the tv broadcast...I know the White Stripes are a Detroit product, but really? I don't think we need to hear that the week after we were curb stomped by a crappy PSU team.
The Bed Intruder song was played for a short period of time. The student section got it, and I had to explain it to a few folks. It was only on for 5 to 10 seconds. It was pretty funny.
"Nobody cares what you think!"
Wow. Just...like...WOW!
There are no corners in space.
Bowl game here we come. We beat Purdue and 1 of the other 2. Hell, why not run the table? Great buzz on - what a great day!!
