I have not heard of this guy before - should I have? Anyway, Rivals says we are in his top 2. Can someone fill me in? I don't even know what position he plays.
Terrell Mitchell - we are in the top 2?
I had never heard of him.
BUT he's a 3-star TE, who had once listed us, dropped us, and now that Clemson and Georgia both told him not to bother to come for his official visit, is listing us again. He says Michigan wants him to play WR, Rivals says he may be a defensive player. He's 6'6" 220 lbs.
for any position other than WR, it seems. I guess he could play DE if he put on a bunch of weight but we seem to have some pretty good prospects in place. I think he'd make a good WR coupled with a decent 4.65 forty time. Wonder why he isn't ranked a little better?
He's a tight end. He's 6'-6" 220lbs and runs a 4.65 40. Not bad at all for his size. With these attributes, I'm sure he could also develop into a DE.
With that height, I would think he could be used a little like Plaxico. Have the QB loft the ball on a fade route and let him out-jump the DB for it. Maybe?
He's got a much bigger frame than Plaxico, judging by the couple pictures on Rivals.
Yeah but he's still pretty tall. Perhaps he could also block LBs or DBs to free up the slot receiver for some YAC.
I'm not sure about his speed. You know the time listed is much faster then he really is.
Sounds like he would fit in nice on D when its 3rd and long and you want someone to be able to rush the QB or be able to swat a pass. Thats a decent spot for a 3* recruit.
..this is a kid desperate to get Michigan's attention when Michigan has passed him by long ago..
Well, we're having him visit this weekend, so I don't know that we passed him by.
I didn't know that and thus I claim my ignorance on the subject.. Please acknowledge my wrong headed comment about him!
I look forward to hearing how this 3 star TE liked Michigan.
on bubble screens to the slots.
A guy his size is worth a flier. At least more so than a kid 5'10'', 175. We don't have many guys like this. A Shawn Crable comparison may be unfair, but it's what popped in my head.
What the hell, bring 'im on down!
With his stats and Barwis I'm sure he can find a role on the team in some way, shape or form. Odoms was a 3 star guy and so was Jake Long. Still think he ends up somewhere down south, probably Kentucky.
Jake Long was a mid-four star by every major recruiting service.
He's being brought in to play receiver, not defensive end.
I don't see Plaxico Burress when I watch him on tape. I see Ernest Wilfork. This guy was on our radar early in the process. He seemed to be less of a desire than Orson Charles and Dion Sims, but he's always been on the fringe. I thought he'd stay down south, but he sounds intrigued by the chance to play receiver. He's a good blocker, too, which would be good for our offense. This is the type of guy we don't have right now. I'd definitely be excited to have him on board.
like, actually can break our slot guys open down field good ?
Some WR named Terrance Davis may visit UM. Anyone got any info on him?
He's another big receiver. Michigan was waiting on test scores. He's about Ricardo Miller's size - 6'3"ish and a little over 200 pounds. He's not quite as explosive as Miller, in my opinion. I would not be surprised if the Davis/Mitchell thing turns out to be a "first come, first served" type of thing. If Michigan offers Davis, he'd supposedly commit on the spot. Davis won't be a game breaker, but he could be a decent possession guy. I'd be more excited about getting Mitchell because Mitchell has more versatility and height, plus a bigger frame. But we should want an outside receiver in this class, so I'd be okay with either (if Stokes/Haulstead don't commit).
Bring in big WR's and if they don't cut it move to S or S/LB hybrid?
Bringing in athletes that do not necessarily excel in one area but have suitable stats for a number of positions is an underrated strategy. The only time I'd advise against this is if you have a particular position of great need that needs to be filled immediately, e.g., I would not want Denard Rbinson, Travante Stallworth and Feagin as our only QB options. Though 1 could work out and even be a star, we needed a specialist Tate Forcier type in this class.
