Tate Forcier Interview on ESPN

Adam Rittenberg interviewed Tate. I thought it was a good read.

Thanks!

I love the comment from the poster identifying Tate as just another hotshot. What does he expect Forcier to say? That he might not be very good? That he doesn't think he can help the team dramatically improve this year?

The QB of a major college football program has to be a confident SOB, and maybe a little cocky even. Tate is no different than any incoming freshman in that respect.

I love this guys attitude. And from what I've been reading he is progressing along. I love his mentality. But, you might as well call Denard "Iceman" and Tate "Maverick" because when Denard shows up on campus, it's on. Competition gentlemen, will make both these guys better.

If you have to ask twice it means that you didn't get it the first time.

I get the reference... but of the definitions I've seen for Maverick (which I was prompted to look up during the endless use of that word during the presidential campaign), I'm not sure I'd want anyone carrying that title on our team. (1. unbranded calf; 2. a loner or dissenter; 3. a type of air-to-ground missile.) Maybe if that missile was ground to air instead... :)

Who knows? When RR retires fifteen or twenty years down the road with three or four NC's, maybe Sheridan will be his heir apparent.

Yes, since Sheridan has been helping out Forcier, it's abundantly clear that Sheridan's career choice will be football coaching. I mean, how could you come to any other conclusion?

One time I helped a friend move into his house. Now I'm a mover!

Another time I put out a kitchen fire, so now in my spare time, I'm a fireman!

MVictors: One of the things that I’ve heard is that, down the road, you’d like to be a coach. Is that true, has that always been a goal?

Sheridan: Yes, but some people think that I came here as someone who didn’t want to compete and that I just came here to learn and to be a coach, etc., etc. I don’t know how that got blown up. That’s not the case at all.
I came here because it was the best school I got into and the it was the best opportunity to be a part of something special. I could come here and play Michigan football, that’s why I’m here.
Probably since eighth grade my dad’s been a coach and I’ve been around football my whole life so I can’t imagine not being around it. Since then I’ve wanted to one day be a professional, college or maybe even high school

Although your post made me laugh, I think there's a little more to it than that. Sheridan has mentioned his desire to possibly coach one day, and I'm assuming you haven't mentioned many times your desire to become a fireman. Also, his father is a coach, and unlike moving or firefighting, coaching is an area where having the right connections can get you a long ways (Jay Paterno). Add in the fact that other players (Forcier) have commented on both Sheridan's desire and ability to "coach" and it's not a stretch to say that Sheridan may coach one day.

Now, saying it's clear he will follow in his father's footsteps is a little bit far, I'll give you that.

Of course there's more to it than that. I just thought that the comment "He coached up Forcier so it's clear he's going to be a coach" (or whatever it said exactly) was kind of a big leap.

Sheridan's past comments about wanting to become a coach are more enlightening than the idea that he's helping out the starting QB while sidelined with a broken leg. Lots of players do that, but it doesn't always mean they'll be coaches.

I think the fact that they have not communicated with one another is an indicator that it is going to be some stiff competition.

If you have to ask twice it means that you didn't get it the first time.

Do you think anyone ever used the term "stiff competition" at Arkansas when the two Dick brothers (both QB's) were on the team together?

Yes, I know, that was extremely childish...

it sounds like he's competing with denard robinson already. I kind of wonder if some of his comments after he (Forcier) committed contributed to us having those QB decommits.

That having been said, the future looks good. Forcier, Robinson and then Gardner. Good times.
