A talk with Stephen Hopkins

Highlights:

- He's graduating in December and will be enrolling early.
- His HS has OSU colors and he "wears them with shame."
- He's excited about the possibly of a home-and-home with Oklahoma State, since the 2010 game would be his first as a Wolverine and the 2011 contest would be the closest thing to a homecoming for him (he's from Texas).
- Although being the one power back in the 2010 class, he claims to be getting faster and quicker (can't hurt).
- Had he waited another month to commit, he likely would have received offers from Oklahoma (!!!), Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Sparty and Arkansas.
- He's heard from somebody in the know that if he has a good senior season he'll vault up to a 4-star.

Not too much inside information but it's info regardless.

about the Jupiter impact situation, because I definitely read that topic as "Stephen Hawkings" and thought well my god that should be OT. Also I've been drinking.

But on topic: I hope this guy has it. Thanks for the update.

In the know but I think he could definitely get a 4th star.

Plays against big time competition in Texas. I hope he gets it but I don't really care how many stars he has. I think he will have a great senior season and will be a really great weapon for us down the road.

Thanks for the input. How did u speak with him?

I guess RR would be stupid to not recruit power backs, but I just thought I'd give him some "props" because of all the negative press he gets. I'm sure hes greatful of me too...

I have markedly less football talent than Mr. Hopkins. TomVH mentioned it as an aside when we were freaking out about all the three stars. He said that Stephen, who I am not (I know it was a joke) was perplexed, bamboozled, and flabbergasted why we set so much in store by a few stars.

Frankly, i think an understated aspect of his commitment is that its going to help us with the Texas recruits. The state is a gold mine -- even if it is pillaged by Texas, OU, OK State, and LSU.

Between Mallett, McGuffie, and murmurs about Stonum, I'd love to see a Texas kid come up here and whoop some ass. Certainly wont hurt us when Jay Hopson and Fred Jackson are down their scouting future M talent.
