people on other boards are saying terrance robinson transferring. no idea if that's true. just passing it along.
landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
No. At least not right now
it must suck to be a bench warmer for richrod
At this rate we'll have 23 players left. (11 offense, 11 defense, and 1 Space Emperor.)
I know there can be many, many reasons behind a kid transferring but i'm kinda with ya on this. If he transfers and it's because of PT, well that's just dumb. He's got 4 years ahead of him in an offense perfectly suited for his abilities.
Unfortunately for T-rob, he is behind a Sophmore(Odams), another RS Freshman(Roundtree) and probably a true Freshman(Gallon) so if it is because of PT I can understand, but dont agree, with his decision
Roundtree has a really different skill set and might end up playing more on the outside and I think it's a leap to say he's probably behind Gallon. Even if he were behind Gallon, TRob is only a redshirt freshman. He has plenty of time to improve and get playing time. He should have a conversation with Mark Huyge.
I hope this is false .. i like the potential and speed of TRob .. but if he does go nobody will get that #7 jersey until a certain somebody in 2010.
20 bucks you mean "certain somebody" as Austin White.
Devin Gardner wears number 7.
Rick Leach wore 7. Good number. Could become one of those hallowed numbers.
FWIW, another great Michigan quarterback shared a number with Tate -- Johnny Wangler. Let's hope Tate doesn't suffer the same knee injury and we're all set.
Lawrence Taylor. I wonder if Michigan players were aware of just how great a player they were up against in that game.
What a vicious vicious hit on Wangler.
Lawrence Taylor would get my vote for best Defensive Player Ever. Still, we would have won the game if Wangler doesn't get mangled by LT
No .. i was thinking of DG ... when can i get that 20 bucks ?
If true we will have to recruit more and more slots, 44 slots
I have no inside information, but this would not surprise me in the slightest. He's been passed up by Roundtree on the depth chart and has apparently suffered from dropping too many balls. I know this sounds like 20/20 hindsight, but I said at the time of his commitment that it seemed people were excited about him based almost entirely from the "Dream Shake" video.
I hope it's not true, and this is the first I've heard of it. But I've wondered a couple times if he might be a guy who would search for greener pastures elsewhere.
I formed the same opinion, but I hope we are wrong.
When we recruit so many people at the same positions you have to figure some will defect.
Magnus, do you have an email to reach you. Have a question for you about Touch The Banner
As much as I'd like drop some bombs on you for both owning a cat and using one as your icon, I shall refrain.
If you seriously consider drawing attention to an auction of Michigan football memorabilia, tickets and other assorted Michigan football related stuff ON A BOARD FOR MICHIGAN FOOTBALL FANS (gee, can't imagine anyone here cares about that) is unworthy........fill in the assumed blank.
...and finally, if you consider drawing attention to said auction WHICH BENEFITS A SCHOLARSHIP FOR UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN STUDENTS WHO HAVE CANCER sucks, then there simply are not enough expletives for me to fire at you.
I'm laying it out there. Thats twice he's buzzed me on the same issue.
That's not what I'm saying at all, at all. And I own no cat(just a random pic), I do however have a sweet dog.
My problem with you is how you're going about it. You are being really vague, and asking anyone with a blog for their emails. It would be far better for you had you started a thread dedicated to this topic, instead of spamming everyone about it in a supposedly on-topic thread.
For what it's worth, (I looked) I think you're charity is a worthy cause for sure. You really should just start a thread, and label it OT.
Edit: and, it's a LOLCAT, an MGoStaple
1) so its in my sig line. Those who choose to look may, anyone else can ignore.
1a) How the hell many words can you put in a sig line to describe this! Can't exactly write a paragraph here.
2) Some bloggers have been carrying links to the auction (mvictors, House That Yost Built and TheWolverineBlog et.al) so yes, if they don't post an email on their blogsite, I do ask them for an email to see if they would be willing to run said link. Unless you haven't noticed the economy kind of sucks and getting the word out to as many Michigan fans is sort of necessary under the circumstances. Not much of an auction if no one knows its there. Much like the old "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" adage.
3) Its run by the school. I took classes taught by the professor its named after when I was at Michigan and my sister had cancer while she was a student at Michigan so I know the devastation that it delivers to the person and the family and I'm DAMN proud to do whatever I can to get the word out, negative points or Timmmaaayy comments be damned.
4) I CAN'T start a thread, not enough points. But is a thread really appropriate or is it best to just passively disseminate the info at the end of my posts (once again, in the sig line).
FINALLY) Really. REALLY!!!! This of all the many topics on this board is really what you choose to focus on two nights in a row.
I will corroborate this, as one who ('s blog) received his e-mail. Mr. Angell wrote a very nice, clear e-mail explaining what his cause was. Posting on MGo is not his M.O.
Viva La Revolucion and much non-nicotine love to Dex.
You've won me over, I apologize. I do think a thread would serve you better, and I didn't think about the points rule. I will start one with just a link to the auction, and you can explain it all below if you like.
Apology accepted and returned in kind. The thread would be greatly appreciated.
I still hate cats. My wife had a cat when we got married and the motherf#@%er pissed on my cellphone and destroyed it. I hold that grudge against all cats.
I'm going to sleep. 180 year olds get tired pretty easily.
Alright, dude. I spent the last 5 minutes giving up-votes on various threads. You should have enough to post your cause. Don't let me down.
Since Chitown provided the votes for you to do it, the thread will be better than if I had started it. Good luck.
Titled: Auction of Michigan Football memorabilia to aid a scholarship for students at Michigan (read before you hate)
IF you think there is anything I need to edit or add, let me know. Thanks to all of you who gave me the points to do the thread and I hope it attracts a few bidders.
You should not only email the blog authors, but also start a thread now that you have the requisite points. They do great things at Mott and theUM for cancer. I have a business partner and friend who both had children which went to UM, and there is certainly no harm in soliciting funds like this. Good luck, JBA.
I take it back, he said sorry
While Dream Shake was nice there was much more to base an opinion on ... correct me if I am wrong here but didn't he beat out Russel Sheppard for POY in that area of TX? I'm pretty sure that' who he beat out. That is what had me excited about him and still excited. i hope this is not true.
t-rob was in the 08 class; sheppard was 09
I was wondering. With the multiple slot sets we are trying to run, and run with out a huddle. Why would we have a problem trying to get 5 even 6 SR on the field every game. Correct me if I am wrong but having all of these weapons would make it easy to shuffle them on and off and keep them all fresh.
Just like at any other position, when you get down to your 4th, 5th, and 6th options at one position, it's usually somebody who isn't good enough to be on the field. I mean, if you used that theory for cornerbacks, we'd see Adrian Witty or Zach Johnson playing CB. If you used that theory for tackles, we'd see Michael Schofield and Taylor Lewan on the field.
But I think he's definitely at the top of the watchlist, unfortunately. I had high hopes for him.
From everything I hear about T-Rob, he's always had trouble catching the ball -- which is, I guess, the purpose of a receiver. I also found it interesting that in response to a question on how the slots were doing, Troy Woolfolk mentinoed Tay Odoms as doing well first, second he mentioned Kelvin Grady, and third "that guy wearing #3 (Gallon)." Interesting whom he did not mention.
That knee injury really has messed with his confidence.
did i miss the meeting where we all decided we were going to call martavious 'tay'? i mean this all of a sudden seems to have a appeared this week and no several people are calling him 'tay'. wtf
FWIW I called him Tay before it was cool
It's just so you think of Tay Zonday whenever we talk about Odoms...Chocolate Rain.
calls him Tay in interviews. I'm guessing he goes by that, just like JT Turner.
Would you rather we call him Marty?
We post "rumor threads" here (and you've probably done it on 67 other boards) about things we've heard on "other boards"?? Scout is saying "NO." Is that not good enough? And besides, what good does this do? This board is not the "National Enquirer"--and if it were true, I suspect Brian would have it up.
It's amazing (YET TRUE!) how people fly off the handle with every lil rumor or bug in the ear and search the galaxy over and over for confirmation or denials. This can't go on if one is to retain any semblance of sanity.
It's amazing (YET TRUE!) how some people fly off the handle about people passing on information that some people have not heard. I think you've already lost your sanity, based solely on you post above.
People on the MGoBoard have broken news and posted it on the thread before Brian has. Brian may come along and validate it or shoot it down, certainly, but it has happened before and will happen again.
Take an e-chill pill i guess would be the main point of the presentation.
He prob said one little comment and it blows up. I remember all the media drama with Stonum, he is 100% Blue and always will be. I remember talks of him switching to Florida at last second, transfering every few weeks. Everytime he says he never even thought of leaving.
Like Magnus said, T-Rob may have a case of the "dropsies." This would open up a schollie, even though I'd rather not see Robinson leave, especially without ever stepping on the field. I've heard rumors about this one for awhile now. If he does leave though, good luck to him (as long as he doesn't go Boren and Wermers on us!)
Competition at Slot is fierce and with everyone being so young, I can imagine it can be both intimidating and depressing to be buried on the depth chart.
is just too painful to bear.
Those who stay may not always be champions, but they can get a damn good education.
You can get a damn good education anywhere. You can get a great education at Michigan. Maybe the prospect of a degree from UM was not a selling point for him, maybe it was. Things change people change. You can not expect the kid to stick it out 5 years at a University on the opposite end of the US compared to his hometown no matter how great the education.
I would prefer to keep all of my football players on the team. Enough of this transferring shit.
I'm beginning to wonder whether it has more to do with a player not making the right commitment decision in the recruiting process than it does the actual program. This would be the 2nd player recruited by Rodriguez to transfer-- am I correct?
I pray pray pray that it's all just a rumor...
they care about being able to play so they can get a shot at the League. That they have little chance to make it doesn't matter.
The selection of a college is a business decision for many of these kids. The sooner people realize this, the better they can deal with the transfers.
Trust me, I've known this fact for a longer time than some MGoBloggers have been alive. That doesn't make it any less stupid or short-sighted in my eyes. As for the selection of a college being a business decision in relation to football, it's a damn poor business decision if it's based on a tiny chance of success.
The fact that so many of these kids come from backgrounds that otherwise would not have provided access to a college education at a place like Michigan (or Wisconsin or UCLA or insert college name of choice) is a particular kind of tragedy.
It's not just the kids who disregard or discount the education part of being a student-athlete. Routinely, I read and hear sports media people sneer at the idea that getting a free education at a four-year institution could be considered significant compensation of sorts; I still remember an ESPN radio guy (can't remember who) literally say that such a notion was "garbage." This attitude always crops up when discussions of paying college athletes occur. I can see the merits of paying players in some fashion, but to denigrate the education part of what the athlete is receiving as "garbage" is mind-boggling to me.
Don are you assuming that T-Rob couldn't transfer to UCLA, Wisco, Texas, Tulsa. Maybe he can't focus on schoolwork being so far away from home and never getting to see his family. Maybe he would be better educated at a less prestigious school only because it is closer to home. Leaving UM does not close the door on an education.
I wouldn't be so critical. He's just stating that the education he would receive is very valuable at Michigan. He's got a great situation already in place and it's up to him to take advantage of it. It's a lot easier to take advantage of the present situation than to re-establish himself at another school on a different team. Not saying it's impossible, just not as easy. And there is nothing Michigan can do about him being away from home so if that is truly a problem of his then yeah, look closer to home.
Agreed and I'm not trying to be uber-critical I was just saying you don't know what his motives were for going to UM and/or leaving. The mind of a 17-18 year old is full of confusion and women. Some players would rather go Ivy league and never play a down and others would rather go to SJSU and start 3 years.
As many people in this economy are finding out, a college degree doesn't offer any promises of a job after school.
However, it is far better to have one than not. Some kids realize this and stick it out.
Others, however, only have eyes for the millions the NFL offers. What they fail to grasp is the fact that very, very, few D-1 players actually make it. Even fewer make the big bucks they fantasize about.
What is also related to this is the degree kids pursue. TOo many want the easiest degree track possible and not the one that offers the best potential for a well paying job after school. This is a secondary issue that is rarely talked about, yet is almost as serious as the degree debate.
SImply having a degree means little if you don't have actual skills that are in demand.
Agree completely! I'll even +1 ya. But, to me anyone that makes it to the league makes a ton of money. I may be wrong but the league minimum is around 350k a year, that's scout team $. OTOH, most scout players are in the league for 2 maybe 3 years ... then what.
The least he should do is ask if he can move over to defense before he decides to transfer. It's OK to drop the ball at CB as long as it hits the ground before the reciever gets to it.
Good point, A transfer will not improve his hands or hand eye coordination
He was a QB in HS. Maybe he wants to move back to there at a SMU or other small school in TX. I don't know, just kinda throwing it out there as a possibility.
He should move to safety so our secondary can be: Marvin and Terrence Robinson at the safeties, Denard Robinson as one cornerback (after a position switch), and The Swiss Family Robinson platooning at the other corner
Is there anyone that could confirm this or must we wait it out? I like T-Rob. I think that he could have been good. Tired of all of these transfers.
Not that it matters much but why do the points keep going negative?
How close are we to needing a APR waiver? That may be more important at this point. We don't need to drop below 925.
At this rate, I can see DRob leaving and Gardner picking another School if Tate does well.. What has College football come to....?
Terrance Robinson was at the team meeting today. He hasn't quit the team. Why is everyone here talking as if he's left??
Because they're insane.
Smoke, fire, etc.
Besides, T-Rob leaving would be normal attrition. The problem is when it's viewed in the context of things like Wermers, Evans, Helmuth, etc.
Edit: They are insane for thinking he's already gone, but not for thinking he might xfer.
I think it is more the possibility of him leaving that has people insane ... plus people are insane in general.
You and I and everyone else on this thread are part of they, we all just pick different times to be sanctimonious.
some dandy Feagin coke with nothing better to do . . .
I say the same thing and get negged to death. I even tried to be diplomatic.
Fuck it. You're right, fucktards that start threads like this and all those who follow into the trap and panic are fucking crazy.
is not transferring. Don't know how the rumor got started.
I don't see it happening. I think this just got started out of the blue. He hasn't even suited up for a game. I know he will get his chance. RR goes deep in the chart. I will be on my live blog if anyone wants to talk more about it.
From what I've read, T-Rob is as good as gone.
is bunk. T-Rob is not leaving the team.
If he leaves it just means more Ninjas we get to recruit this year. I for one love the transfers. That means that the talent core here is rich. And now we can get back to the USC style recruiting of come here because of the chance to win a National Championship.
I'll say it RR wins 3 in the next 12 years.
Is that USC goes two to three deep at almost every position with highly-rated recruits. If UM can't get beyond a starter and the next guy being someone who would be the last pick on the Jack Kerouac Elementary School Fifth Grade Recess Kickball League, it'll be kind of hard to build some sort of national championship contender.
If he can't catch, move him to RB. Rivals had him rated above Shaw and Mcguffie, as an RB, if I'm not mistaken. Is he big enough?
He was ranked just outside the Rivals 250, about the same spot as where McGuffie was. Shaw was just outside the Rivals 100.
