Now that the college season is over (and still no word on a new DC) What are the chances RR is waiting for an NFL coach who is still in the playoffs?
well that's just, like, your opinion, man
Ooooh, I like THAT idea.
Romeo Crennel is already our Offensive Coordinator.
Haha I get it.
Is it to late to "snake oil" Monte Kiffin?
I thought it was already concluded by the Knowledge, TomVH's evil alterego (the venom to his spiderman), that Rex Ryan will be our DC once the Ravens lose in the playoffs.
or Rex Ryan would both be nice choices too.
he would be ideal. great coach, experience getting kids from the south. but there's more of a chance of nick sheridan winning the heisman that tubberville being our DC.
I was half kidding. It would be awesome, but a very very very long shot
Are there any position coaches who have DC experience at the college level, who would make a good candidate? I only ask this because it would seem to be a step backward for a DC in the pros to become a DC at the college level.
I think we are only offering around $275,000 or something like that, which would probably be a step back for a lot of guys.
On GBW the newest name is Jim Herrmann, former DC under LC. The vast mojority of posters there are extremely not happy with that thought, to put it mildly.
The top names (not top possibilities) that seem to be tossed around are:
Rex Ryan (Ravens DC)
Mel Tucker (former Browns DC)
Jim Casteel (WVU DC)
Dick Bumpas (TCU DC)
Jay Hopson (current DB coach)
ECU DC (forgot his name)
and probably many others I forgot.
Jeff Casteel (not Jim), and Hopson is LB coach (not DB) I believe.
plus, what's stopping RR from naming any college coach?
why would Rex Ryan give up the pleasure of coaching Ed Reed to coaching... a bunch of unproven college kids. It is almost on par with Pete Carrol steping down to coach Rick Moranis' "Little Giants" team.
The Icebox was pretty vicious in that game she could probably make Pryor cry like USC did.
She's actually pretty hot now.
and hope that RR has something up his sleeve. This has to be hurting recruiting to not have a name to give to these potential recruits who want to play for us. TomVH, have you heard anything to this effect, whether there are guys on the fence due to this situation?
Might not be a bad hire if RR's not going for a big name home run.
This does seem like a long time not to have a DC. Shaffer was let go a month ago or more. I know RR said the coaches were in Bowl Prep and holidays, but he hasn't even done an official interview.
And there is NO CHANCE a big NFL DC comes to Michigan.
an "official interview"?
Late in the day to bring this "theory" up. There may be a credibility issue trying to get someone in here. The last three individuals (Hermann, English, Shafer) that have held the job came under tremendous scrutiny - all losing their jobs and taking what in effect has been a demotion. I wonder how hard it's been for RR to find quality people to offer the job to. Sure this is M, but the same issue that plagued our coaching search may be showing it's ugly hed again.
Lots of holes in the theory, look forward to future comments.
Herrmann became the Jets' LB coach.
English was not retained when a new head coach came in, which is pretty much standard operating procedure.
FOR CHRIST SAKE.
You'll know when everyone else knows.
Michael Strahan or Wayne Fontes.
was the former DC at Southern Miss. Originally I thought he was a favorite to get the job, but I gotta think if they were leaning that way it might be wise to just get it over with so that Hopson could sit down with recruits in that official capacity. But a lot of the rumors I read express doubt about how long Hopson is willing to live up north.
The ITF from Rivals either this week or last had some pretty interesting chatter on all of this, saying that Tuberville and one other big name had been indirectly contacted to gauge interest.
I have serious doubts about any NFL guys taking the job. I have no idea what the best option is, but I hope they talk to Larry Johnson Sr. and Ron VanderLinden over at PSU and try to snake oil one of them by saying "JoePa is 82. you've been there 8 years. if they haven't named you coach in waiting yet, its never going to happen. and you both can't get promoted to defensive coordinator if that job opens up."
I hear Joe Barry is available.
Not anymore. I think he found work as a position coach on another NFL team.
Please stop with the Rex Ryan bullshit.
How about Tony Dungy for DC?
