The Spread Is Dead
The always-incorrect Gary Danielson:
"I said it before the season -- and I was out there by myself -- I think we've seen the spread has peaked, like the wishbone did in the mid-70s," Danielson said Thursday.
The top ten teams in total offense so far, spread teams in bold:
- Tulsa
- Texas Tech
- Missouri
- Houston
- Louisiana Lafayette
- Oklahoma
- Nevada (pistol variety)
- Oklahoma State
- Penn State
- Illinois
Might want to cancel the funeral.

I don't care what anyone else has to say about this statement:

Spread is NOT a formation.
It is a series of formations.
But - Potato/Potato (works much better spoken).

Click on the link Brian provided and read the entire article.
It is obvious that Danielson is ONLY talking about the teams that use a running QB in the spread. Primarily the "option spread" like RR.

hmm...i know it's still too early to pass judgement on RR considering he doesn't have his players for his system, but he keeps on insisting that he'll adapt his system to his personnel...i fail to see how he's doing that considering how the season has gone thus far...

sooner or later, you all will have to just drop your insistence on using the term "spread" correctly and hop on board with the slang abomination meaning which Danielson employed

Naw, address the real content of the statement??
How absurd! Let's adress the grammer instead.

Grammer? Kelsey? He probably has better "grammar" than you.

The content of the message is derived from a semantic misunderstanding. Danielson seems to have meant "spread option" but Brian took his statement literally, hence the content.

I'd give anything to have gotten a coach that could have built on what Michigan was doing in last year's bowl game. That is serious football for the big boys that can recruit nationally. Look who runs the spread in the Big Ten, year in and year out. . .the teams that can't compete otherwise. And somehow I'm supposed to believe it is the future?
And it's true, there are a lot of folks in the program who don't like Rodriguez. Martin has done a lot for the AD in terms of fixing the financials but he's royally screwed them in the coaching department.

Ugh....this is what kills me about people.
Think about it for a minute. What has changed since the '70's?
Rules.
The wishbone didn't die because it became 'outdated.' It faded away because the rules changed to make it easier to throw the football.

PSU and others run the spread some time. Like O$U. GD said pure, 100% spread teams are dead. I would say UM is doing its best to confirm GD's theory.

He decommitted!

The problem is when it is 3rd and 1 and were in the spread. We need to be able to line up in the I and whoops ass.
