I question the coaching. JB is a great coach, certainly smart enough to know the ONLY thing that can't happen at the end of regulation is a friggin 3. Is this a case of him telling kids to foul and them not doing it? Kids failing to execute happens. Extremely frustrating in such a situation but it happens. OR is this a case where the coaches just missed it and decided to play it out? Inexcusable if that happened. This is Michigan. If we've learned nothing else, we should know if there's a half court prayer against us in crunch time, it's going in.

How many basketball games at the collegiate level have you coached? You do not have a clue about how easy or hard it is to get 18-23 year olds to do something in a hostile arena . Whining and criticizing coaches about things you know nothing about seems to be the way you deal with any loss . Sometimes, the other guys get the calls or non-calls and get lucky too.

So fouling Burst, who got his shot off with a good second to spare, would have given Wiscy the ball out of bounds at half-court with ~1.5-2.0 seconds to go.  And within range of a normal catch-and-shoot three point shot.

A miracle three-point runner trumps strategy.  I think the chance of making three free throws from the next foul on the ensuing play would be greater than the chance of making that prayer.

The thing is fouling isn't a 100% foolproof solution either. Foul them, now they're inbounding at half court and have a decent chance at an even better shot, never mind if they manage to get into the act of shooting while getting fouled. I've seen other people mentioning putting a defender on the inbounder as if that can't give up even better shots. And sometimes the other team doesn't let your players do what you told them to do. The coaching limited them to a really low percentage shot, but sometimes shit happens. Criticizing the coaching after that is looking at the results instead of the process when no process is 100% foolproof.

So, one of MSUs best wins was vs Kansas. Well, Kansas is on a three game losing streak that includes OK State, TCU(?!) and Oklahoma. TCU and Oklahoma are really bad.

Kansas sucks, ergo State sucks? First, I don't think KU sucks. They lost a few games they shouldn't have. Almost every team does that. Second, you could be feeling very differently about State on Tuesday. They are getting better at the right time of year. Just like all of Izzo's teams.

Kansas doesn't suck, but they aren't that good. They should definitely be outside the top 12 now. Honestly, Indiana, Michigan, and Duke are the top 3 teams IMO; with Florida, Gonzaga, and Miami composing the second tier. Arizona could make a case to be in the second tier group of teams but they looked non-competitive at home against UCLA.

Agreed except I think Miami is going to get some love as a top 3 or 4 team this week. They had some really bad losses early but now seem to be the "sexy" pick.

Not sure what Florida's early season resume looks like but I'm not sold on them. Granted, I just watched them get destroyed at Arkansas.

Michigan will still be Top 3 on Monday.

The point is that we could very well be battling MSU for a #1 seed. That's why it's good for us when any Top 10 team loses. Kansas losing is doubly good since they were considered an elite team and since they were a signature win for MSU. Got it?

I'm getting sick and fucking tired of away game refs, and shut the fuck up Dakich about how the refs missing 20-some fouls against us is great officiating.  Every time we took it to the hoop we got fouled, they didnt call a single one.  Worst officiating Ive seen all season which is impressive.

Beilein made the same mistake against Ohio and Evan Turner in the B1G Tourny of 2010. Not defending the inbounds pass allows the offense to stay in rhythm and get makeable shots. When Laettner scored against Kentucky - no one on the inbounds. Put a guy on the inbounds the pass is likely to be shorter, out of rhythm, and in today's game would have provided an opportunity to foul. Beilein is a great coach - does good things but based on his explanation today and in 2010 - this is one part of the game he doesn't get.
