and the pressure continues to mount on our freshman qbs...lovely
landing spot. will be interesting to see how he does.
and the pressure continues to mount on our freshman qbs...lovely
Original poster probably stole the information from Tom Beaver at GoBlueWolverine. The news broke over there this morning.
You can't copyright facts.
althou on the upside, that means more snaps in practice to foricer, and denard when he gets to AA
Cone's injury will only effect his ability to give hand signals from the sideline but Sheridan's is a concern for depth purposes. My biggest concern about the success of our spread offense is the amount of hits the QBs take. We need 4 good QBs on the roster because there is a higher risk of injury. Since Tate looks about 170 soaking wet I'm not confident he will make it through a season without missing some time due to an injury brought on by an opposing linebacker.
Whether or not you agree that spread offense QBs are more likely to be injured (you obviously don't), the lack of depth is a concern.
While it's far from predictable (and therefore debatable) that his lower weight means a higher risk of injury, I think it does, based on physics and also based on this: if greater mass wasn't desirable in his case, why do RR and Barwis want him to gain weight?
that sucks. Who's then going to update RR's twitter and faceplant page?
As has been commented before, there is no evidence linking spread QB's to any more or less injuries than pocket passers. Injuries are freak happenings. That is all.
I'll be damned... This is cones all-american hand signaler year. Wow, this is going to be a long year.
Whats next? The guy in section 26, row 13 seat 95 is going to have a heart attack?
All of us have expressed distress over Sheridan's presence on the field over the course of the year. And some of us have even wished physical harm on the kid.
Well, you've got your wish. We'll see how his absence will help the team now...
Barnum is rumored to be injured, as well.
it's not a rumor. He has a wrist injury he's practicing through but most likely will have surgery after spring ball.
Is this for real? Angry Michigan blank hating god is alive and well it seems. ARRGGGHHHH
Has this been confirmed anywhere else? Sorry, but I can't help but notice Jeff just joined today.
but he should have plenty of time to heal and be ready for reps in the fall.
Tate might have to play both ways in the spring game.
Where is your link?
You know you just claimed that the possible fall starter broke a leg which is significant, and the number 3 had a less significant injury.
You just joined today = highly possible troll.
Rivals is reporting it.
I would never be happy about anyone on the team getting hurt. But maybe all of these injuries on offense mean that our defense is playing well.
by a premium source, just fyi. It's on mlive now, too.
Link to the story by a reporter linked to a newspaper or online reputable blog that confirms your story that confirms that Sheridan broke a bone in his leg. Again, practice was yesterday.
EDIT: My apologies to you. You were right. I take back the "banning" comment.
The only other place on the net reporting Sheridan broke a leg is the mlive message boards, based on speculation. They had practice yesterday. Don't you think we would have heard something from Angelique or a reporter at this point?
If he's right, well full marks to him. If not, he's a troll that should be banned.
FYI: The majority of people DO have better things to do with their lives than create fake accounts on opponents' blogs and then report rumors. I'm not saying you should trust everything you read here, but you also shouldn't start yelling "TROLL TROLL TROLL" just because Angelique Chengelis hasn't confirmed it yet.
...unless it's indeed confirmed. We do have a lot of these "rumors" turn out to be true, but from the most recent legitimate updates (including video) Sheridan and Cone are both healthy, and as mentioned this member joined today. Believe it when it comes from a reputable source, or start to believe it when a more reputable member confirms that this is even a rumor (and not just a lie)
Sheridan is injured.
...can Threet stay and play?
We've got Feagin.
Furrha coming in too.
I think Tate better get the green jersey, now.
to rescind Threet's transfer request?
must have been injured in an off the field incident because you cant hit the QB in practice
Pierre Woods agrees.
Because players NEVER break bones when making cuts and nobody EVER trips accidentally and rolls on someone's leg and nobody EVER gets overzealous and hits the QB anyway.
Yep. He must have slipped on some ice. That's the only explanation.
You gots to chill, yo.
You're right. Absurd comments shouldn't be rebuked.
Again, chill. Also I am pretty sure the first comment was sarcasm. So once more, chill. No need to get all crazy.
Okay, so let's assume you're right that the first comment was sarcasm.
I responded with sarcasm.
So what's there to chill about? I'm not worked up. I didn't call him names.
YOU NEED TO CHILL, YOU *$#^!^$^%#&%*$*#Q$Y%OYROYRYR%^%#&%$Q)^%^%#)Q%)Q!!!!!
You obviously thought that comment was sincere based on your reaction and now that you re-read it with a cool head you have realized that it was sarcasm. Maybe you could try that re-reading with a cooler head tactic with all comments? Then I wouldn't have any reason to tell you to chill out.
Of all the possible comments on this board, my sarcastic response (whether his was sarcastic or serious) is not one you should latch onto and say "chill out."
Chill out, Magnus.
...but did he have to go all Tanya Harding on them?
All the breaks (pun intended) have gone in Tate's favor. It happened in his recruitment as he saw the Newsome decommit giving him the opening to verbal. And then with the decommit of Beaver. He grads early and comes in to get experience and now this. The path is wide open for him. I think he relishes this.
The path is TOO fucking wide open!
Dont worry! This year doesnt mean anything. It only counts when MUNCHIE LEGAUX is our starting quarterback. Mark it daow that he wins 4 consecutive Heisman trophis, 4 national championships, and a perfect 46-0 record as a starter. You heard it here first.
(sarcasm, for those who can't tell)
Doesn't the red jersey mean anything anymore? FML.
It's a fucking plague.
Let's just cover Tate in bubble wrap right now.
For Bubble wrap!
Son of a Bee Sting!!!!!
Where on Rivals is this being reported?
I was wondering the same thing, I haven't been able to find it.
not sure how you guys aren't seeing it
nick sheridan...hurts a bit
furrha as #2...ouch
it's not fine that Cone broke his hand, since he is our signaler. This sucks.
I wonder how bad Sheridan's leg is, if it's really broken.
Maybe he'll turn into a coach like Papa Sheridan to end up where he belongs.
I'm not trying to sound real insensitive or uncaring, I'm sure he's a nice guy. I'm not going to lie though, it would be a relief to me if he was incapable of taking the field. I think Zoltan would make a better Michigan QB. He probably at least has a higher YPC than Sheridan, even if he can't throw.
So, you'd rather have David Cone, Justin Feagin, the unseen Denard Robinson, or Zoltan, all of whom are WORSE QB's THAN Sheridan, backing up Forcier? Really?
I would bet my life that Denard is better than Sheridan in all facets of the game/offense.
Cone is hurt too but I bet he can at least THROW the ball.
Every time last year that Sheridan came in I was screaming at the TV because we'd have been better off putting one of the quick HB's back there to at least run around. Sheridan was an awful QB and had one decent outing somehow.
Again again, I'm sure he's a nice guy. I just want to black out every time he goes in (I CAN'T HELP IT: That's what she said). I'd honestly rather have ANY HB/WR play QB before Nick Sheridan. We'll lose every game we rely on him for. Not trying to be, or sound like, a sweaty chode, but sometimes the truth hurts.
"we'd have been better off putting one of the quick HB's back there to at least run around"
We tried this. Multiple times. And it didn't work.
I don't remember that other than like 4 snaps where they gave it to Feagin.
I mean putting let's say, Shaw, at QB in the shotgun and just seeing what happens. I know & understand this would be a very foolish offense to run, but there's nothing much more foolish then letting Sheridan run the offense.
I'm not talking about "Hand off to McGuffie" every play.
Watch football much? Pay attention a little?
I SAID..."Every time last year that Sheridan came in I was screaming at the TV because we'd have been better off putting one of the quick HB's back there to at least run around."
"I'd honestly rather have ANY HB/WR play QB before Nick Sheridan."
I didn't say "a direct-snap to a HB every once in a while" and I said I know it wouldn't be a good offense...but what I meant (and said) was that I think it'd be better to play ANYONE FAST over Nick Sheridan at QB. Again, NOT a direct-snap every once in a while, but PLAYING QB.
If I am missing something from last year, such as a legitimate stretch of a non-QB lining up at QB then let me know, otherwise...read what is written.
Assuming it's not some compound fractures we're talking about, the bones will heal with plenty of time for rehab before August. It's a blow, no doubt, but at least it's not a knee or ACL.
it's not on rivals.
Or it is.
on how many more threads there will be on this subject? Ask JamieMac lol
Has this been confirmed by any real sources yet? Or is the internet just burning down?
It's on Rivals.
No it's not.
you're the dude who took the handle I wanted.
he means it is being reported by the Moderators of Rivals. These are not random posts on the Rivals board. This is not a random post on Mlive. The people who run Rivals are reporting that Sheridan is hurt.
I hope that's clear enough.
Chill the fuck out Magnus.
Fame away, Magnus, flame away.
Haha, I had read the Chill Out war between you and the Dude and I was waiting for a funny time to tell you to chill out. Your comment "Agreed." was exactly what I was waiting for.
But maybe you should still chill the fuck out.
Don't you ever change Magnus <3
This comment makes it seem like I should never change baby Magnus's diaper.
That will teach Magnus to agree!!!
...for the clarification.
This is the information I was looing for. Being a cheap bastard (don' t give me the "it's only $10" BS, that's why I come to the free wonderousness that is MGoBlog Et Al.), I don't have a Rivals account and didn't know where the post was. A message board thread title "Spirng Practice Report Volume 1" doesn't exactly scream "QB broken leg!!!", and I also have no way of knowing if it is posted by a mod or john Q. commentor.
If this were a troll don't you think the message would be that Forcier is hurt, not Sheridan?
that would be too obvious. good trolling can't be taught.
Im wondering if anyone thinks feagin will get snaps?
He's been throwing the ball a bit in practice, but he's not very good at it.
Has mesko been getting any snaps?
Based on that mich replay episode, he probably has a better arm than feagin, and he averaged like 10 ypc last season so he'd make a good dual threat QB.
Did Zoltan have any catches last year? I don't remember this happening.
EDIT: I'm thinking you meant yards per rush, not yards per catch. Nevermind.
Much like the new Wanda Sykes commercial asking people to stop saying "that's so gay", I am here to ask people to stop calling people trolls.
What if the OP actually lives under a bridge? What if 99% of his vocabulary is "Tra La La"? What if he is minding his own business under said bridge, when he over-hears RR and Mike Barwis discussing Sheridans broken leg? So he washes up in a Quizno's bathroom, merrily skips 10 miles uphill in the rain to the Ann Arbor public library to share his new found insight with the people he feels would like to know this news. He takes the risk that the billy goats gruff actually may cross the bridge in his absence, and within 5 minutes he gets called a troll? What if he's very sensitive about his situation? What if he's sick of the name calling? What if he's sick of explaining the difference beween a leprechaun and a troll? It's gotta be hard enough getting ladies as it is, but now his confidence is shot to smithereens. Not cool MgoCommenters.....not cool at all.
this is true- I haven't been able to get an mgoboner since the troll accusations began flying. the insults are manifesting themselves physically now.
MGoJeff, I only have 1 word for you.
The chance of me using the term "mgoboner" at some point during the day is high. Thanks Jeff, you've just invented my girlfriend's new least favorite word.
Is there anything wrong with that?
interesting fact: Jak proteins phosphorylate Epo receptors. This enables SH2 domains to bind to it and become phosphorylated. It then forms a homodimer and translocates to the nucleus.
Just for depth purposes did we need either one of these 2 qb's if indeed the rumors are true. Hopefully not since we don't need to see Justin Feagin to hype up the spring game!
Really? You don't think that losing Nick Sheridan hurts? At least he has some starting experience. Why are you so confident that a couple of true freshman like Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson are going to be significantly better than an experienced Nick Sheridan?
people here are so confident about freshman QB's who they've never seen play a single game. They must be awesome film evaluators and talent judges of those grainy 8 minute high school video highlights.
You mean... those aren't indicative of future success? no. No. Noooooo!!!
(looks around nervously in shame, curls into ball on the floor)
Wow, what else can go wrong? I wish players would just stick around for a while and see how things shake out before they peace out - cough Steven Threet cough. Jason Forcier cough Mallet cough. All of these players would get lots of playing time if they just stuck around.
Can someone link the Rivals page that confirms this? I still don't see it on Rivals or mlive.
Ugh. Did Brian decide to Liveblog a spring practice?
and + some more
This whole Sheriden has experience thing is really overrated. The bottomline is he is not a very good QB. I played DII football and every QB in my conference had a better arm then him. Just because he played (horribly except for one) in a few games last year doesn't make him better.
Put it this way: Take any random mgoblogger who played some high school football and insert him into last years starting lineup. They would have gotten their ass kicked but would probably have made a play or two. Are they suddenly better than a Justin Turner/Will Campbell/JeRon Stokes because they have experience? That is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard.
The fact of the matter is Sheridan isn't very good and although it would great to have another arm in practice the only thing I want to see him do this year is signal in the plays and help Tate from time to time. And by all accounts he can do that with a broken leg!
I dont know about that, I played highschool fooball so Im pretty good. I probably could have led us to an undefeated season and won the Heisman.
worse than your average DII QB.
The issue is whether he is better than anyone on the University of Michigan football team, and by how much.
I suspect that Forcier will prove better (at least in the eyes of the coaching staff) than Sheridan, but that is not a given. The rest, Robinson and Feagin, are likely not.
"Put it this way: Take any random mgoblogger who played some high school football and insert him into last years starting lineup. They would have gotten their ass kicked but would probably have made a play or two."
Any random mgoblogger put in a game would yell "troll!! troll!!" at the first guy he saw. Then he'd hug Barwis on the sideline, wet himself, and pass out. No plays would be made.
And again, please tell me how that based on one grainy video clip, you are convinced that Denard is a better college QB than Sheridan. And why it's impossible for a QB to improve from awful to mediocre with experience.
"Any random mgoblogger put in a game would yell "troll!! troll!!" at the first guy he saw. Then he'd hug Barwis on the sideline, wet himself, and pass out. No plays would be made."
What a great visual. LMAO.
I never said I was convinced Denard is a better QB than Sheridan based off of one granny video clip. I just hate the argument that he (Sheridan) is somehow a good option and better than the two incoming freshmen based off the fact that he has experience.
Anyone that watched Michigan football last year could see he had no business being on a major D1 football field. Just cuz he was our only option and RR was forced play him giving him that valuable "experience" people somehow think he is better than our two top level recruits.
If Sheridan take his headset off and puts a helmet on for anything other than taking a knee or holding the extra point we are in trouble.
"Experience" has taught us that!
Rivals is reporting that Lance Armstrong broke his collarbone. Isn't he that new slot receiver?
Just picked up by the Free Press as well, though they aren't reporting the Cone injury.
