Sharrif Floyd video on rivals gives a different impression of his intentions

I wanted to put this as a response to Tuesday recruiting, but I can't for some reason. I just watched a video on rivals of Sharrif Floyd at a camp down south and he says some things that contradict what has been written about him.

I get the impression that he doesn't follow his own internet hype train much. He hasn't looked at the rivals site to see that he is listed in the top ten.

He isn't planning an official to Penn State. He says he's been there enough. He is definitely planning a trip to Michigan (and OSU and Illinois for that matter) but not necessarily as officials. He said that he will likely take two officials to schools down south, but hasn't decided which ones yet. He says that he will take an official to Boston College. He has no interest in schools out west.

Based on this interview we have a shot. I suspect he knows very little about Michigan, because he wasn't a football fan growing up, of anyone. He says in the interview he didn't grow up a fan of PSU because he didn't follow football at all. He also doesn't seem like the type to do a lot of research (that's just my opinion based on the interview)

As Brian says, if we get him to campus, anything can happen and he is planning on coming as of right now.

I hope that this is a situation where our lack of depth at the position will play into our favor. If he's good, he will get a lot of playing time within a year or two.

think about it....Martin, Big Will and Floyd? It might make GRob move to a 4-3 full time.....throw in RVB and a stable of deathbackers...shades of '85 and '97 start to re-appear. His opptys for immediate PT have to put M in the mix and I like his no nonsense personality. Its refreshing these days and reminiscent of an old school Michigan Man.

There's a lot of people out here, and I'm one of 'em, who have begun to experience doubts about the Rich Rod Experience here. A first sign of what I perceive (rightyly or wrongly) is the class of 2010.

See, I DO expect, Spread and Deathbacker be damned, big time recruiting classes. Players who have played the positions they are recruited to (I'm not a big fan of the Scout attitude that you can just Barwis people and chocolate milk them into a hole in the depth chart), attention grabbers and Big Names are what gis the blood boiling.

The list mentioned by Rico616 is, by most accounts, a good one. Better still, it seems achievable (let's add Grimes to it, though). And I'm sure we'll see some others pop up on the radar like we have the last two years.

So, let's see the Magic come out. It's Michigan, folks, and Rodriguez has come in with a rep as a good recruiter. They brought this Hopson guy in--let's see him finally get someone. I don't want to hear 3-9. Got a new stadium going up, new locker rooms, practice facilities, and some seemingly great young talent in place to build upon.

This is a Big Year, on the field and off the field. It is TIME to get things rolling by getting some of these recruis to fall into place and to get a good season started off with many bangs.

That being said, it is what it is.

Sorry, but this is a borderline foolish post.

"This is Michigan"...guess what? You're not going to impress many elite recruits with that line. Sharrif Floyd doesn't give a crap that "this is Michigan". He didn't grow up a Michigan fan. Or a Penn State fan. Or a fan of anybody. All he sees is what's in front of him. And guess what's in front of him? The thing you "don't want to hear". Don't wanna hear 3-9? Okay...you want to ignore something that makes a huge difference? Michigan was, for the most part, untouchable for 40 years. And we go 3-9, guess what? The people who have thirsted for a shot at Michigan come out of the woodwork, hammering these recruits with negative recruiting.

You can ignore 3-9 all you want. You can "not want to hear it" all day long. It makes a difference, and anyone who says otherwise and uses the "this is Michigan" defense in response to it is foolish and naive. Go look at Penn State's recruiting class they just signed, and then look at the class they're putting together for 2010. Think winning 11 games and making an appearence in the Rose Bowl had something to do with that? If not, your head's in the sand. If so, then you have to apply the same logic to Michigan's situation.
