Sam McGuffie, Others Leaving Team Comment Count

Brian

There will be significant attrition this offseason. The first to fall:

In today’s weekly Big Ten teleconference, Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said sophomore Zion Babb was no longer with the team. Rodriguez said the wide receiver hasn’t been with the team since Sunday.

So… yeah. I was sitting on this until I had some outside confirmation and this serves as outside confirmation since three guys were mentioned as a group of players who had already made their decisions. The other two who have told the coaches they are out: sophomore LB/S Artis Chambers and Sam McGuffie.

EVERYBODY PANIC.

Okay. Done panicking? Some context for this information:

How solid is it? Very solid. Three sources very close to the situation.

How official is it? It is not official until it is official. Earlier this year I said freshman RB Mike Cox was transferring based on equally solid info, but Cox reversed course and decided to stick out the year. Until someone actually enrolls somewhere else there is always the chance for a reconciliation.

Is this the end of it? No. The rumors are flying fast and furious about a couple guys buried on the depth chart; I don't have confirmation on anyone else and at this point I think they're still on the fence.

for not only taking my post as a joke, but for dealing with the fact that i included such an incoherent looking post. It was, however, the only way I could post all the names without actually writing them out. For those who don't know, that would take forever. Also, thanks for making me laugh out loud at the Morales rib. That made me feel better!

This stinks. This is "ha ha look at crappy ND" bad. Our team might be just fine. And much of this is perhaps to be expected. But the appearance of it all is just horrendous.

I hope Sam finds what he is looking for and is able to contribute somewhere. I also hope that, if this is medical (Clinical Depression or SADD) as some have suggested, that Michigan makes an exception and supports his bid to forgo the mandatory redshirt year that comes with transferring. It is a shame that he is having a tough time for whatever reason.

Sam McGuffie should find one good friend -- one single person who he doesn't feel self-conscious around, maybe even a dork-wad or an outcast. Self-consciousness can be suffocating, especially for a person who's in a new environment by himself. Take a year off. Just don't leave Michigan. That won't make things any better.

While I am bummed to see this kid go...so be it. He was talented, yes. I found him exciting to watch. But he looked slight in stature out there, like he was too small. IMO. He seemed to run upright. Not low to the ground like Barry Sanders or Jamie Morris. As a result, he took some savage hits this year. I was reading a Sparty blog this afternoon and there was a comparison of McGuffie to former Spartan tailback Blake Ezor, which I thought was interesting. Both are comparable in physical attributes, ie height and weight. But Ezor was one tough SOB to bring down. He was a load. I don't see McGuffie in this fashion. Not to sound like a dick, but I think we can move on just fine. I am not going to miss him. I hope the kid finds what he's looking for. Whatever that might be. But as the saying goes - those who stay.....

With a name like McGuffie, let's pray Sam transfers to Notre Dame. The reality is players are usually happier there even though the weather is just as lousy and the academics at least as good, if not better. Our prayers go with you Sam.

Sam McGuffie should take some time out and watch friends of his relative Brian McGuffie kick ass at this years English World Cup team in South Africa managed by Fabio Capello (my only problem is we play the US first) one of Brians closest pals is Steve Gerrard who will be wearing the No. 4 shirt. I should also mention that David Beckam will be looking on. Brian McGuffie has not made it into the Capello team I believe your cousin will be designing brochures at his design business G3 Creative.

What a fantastic impact I believe Mr McGuffie has made on the team in the US. Back here in the UK we have a superb soccer ace called Brian McGuffie who plays football in Scotland and also runs the design company I work for called G3 Creative Solutions in Glasgow. I wonder if they are related as the both look a bit similar. Anyway Sam, keep up the good work, I very much enjoy watching American Football on my Sky Satellite system. Mari McDougall
