Russell Bellomy Tears ACL Comment Count

Brian

perrycolor[1]You can decommit from Purdue all you want, Russell Bellomy, but Perry the ACLephant will find you and destroy your ligaments.

Michigan redshirt sophomore quarterback Russell Bellomy has suffered an ACL tear in spring practice, TheWolverine.com has learned and U-M has confirmed.

Bellomy is currently the only scholarship quarterback on the roster other than Devin Gardner. Shane Morris arrives in fall, and just about can't redshirt unless Michigan is going to throw a walk-on out there in the event of a Gardner ding.

Michigan's depth chart is really feeling the absence of a quarterback in last year's class. One per year, every year, is what Michigan wants to do from now on; let's hope they do so.

If football was like engineering, two critical failures in such a short span of time just in practice calls for a thorough review of what they're doing.

Now I know it's Mgoblog's tradition to downrate, well, everything, but note I'm not judging anyone.  Yet.  My point isn't that someone did something wrong; my point is that babying the team isn't the proper response.  (That only guarantees no one's ready for the season.)  The proper response is to find out what's killing everyone's knees.  It MAY be a horrible coincidence, but you never, ever assume.  You only rule out possibilities until what's left is fact.

In any case, I hope someone from the media asks this question.  I'm sure Hoke is just as concerned for his boys as any of us are, but if he stonewalls this issue I'll be really pissed.  As fans we're worried too.

This has generated more commentary than a great game column about a team that just made the Final Four. Considering Michigan football has not given us anything big to cheer about on a national postseason stage in over 15 years, sporting priorities seem a bit out of whack.

I hope Hoke takes this as a lesson to sign at least 1 QB every year. As good as our 2012 class is, it was incredibly foolish to not take a QB. Now Gardner's got a lot of added, unneeded pressure to not get hurt, and we're only going to have two healthy, scholarship QB's on the roster next year, one of which will be a true freshman.

Awesome.
