Robbie Czarnik, Jack Campbell Headed To OHL
Shoot me now. One, Robbie Czarnik has left the team:
The Plymouth Whalers acquired Robbie Czarnik's rights from the Oshawa Generals, and Czarnik has left Michigan to play for Plymouth. At least it's a short drive across town for him.
Two, 2010 uber-goalie recruit Jack Campbell did not sign with the rest of the recruiting class and is expected to play in the OHL as well. Creepy facebook stalking ahoy:
Jack Campbell isn't coming to Michigan. I know this is creepy or whatever, but I did some Facebook stalking. Someone wrote on his wall on Friday that they wanted him to come to Michigan immediately because HOGAN. This was his reply:
Jack Campbell

I do not think there is a better description than FML......what did we do to bring the uber-wrath of the angry Michigan hating God upon us all?

That we are becoming fans of steel. We are building up iron constitutions. To heck (don't really want to risk going stronger than that) with the angry Michigan sports hating gods. Bring it on and watch us endure!
AGGGGH! I am just, in my head, making the Charlie Brown kicking the football noise. It's just that kind of thing! AGGGGH!
Next we'll learn that every time Zack Novak shoots a three, an angel does NOT get its wings.

Campbell's going to sign with the Windsor Spitfires, who drafted him last year.
Interesting choice, especially considering the Spitfires goalie this season is rolling along at a 2.40 GAA clip, and has a record of 19-2. If he heads to the NHL or AHL, Campbell's got a good shot in Windsor.

What, what is that you try to say?
What, what was that you tried to say?
Tried to say.. tried to say..
Tried to say.. tried to say.. tried to say...
Everything, everything, everything..
Everything in its right place
and i spent this season consoling myself with the thought of having JMFC next year
No words to express how disappointed the JMFC news makes me. Two years ago I did not think I'd ever use Michigan basketball to make me forget about the pain football and hockey keep inflicting on me.
When it rains it pours. Man oh man.
Its Great...To Be...A Michigan Wolverine?
Hell yes it is!
But it definitely ain't easy right now.

I think Jack gave Michigan and its' fans a raw deal.
To say all those bloated, hyperbolic things about Michigan, and then abruptly leave like this, really fucking sucks. Does he really think that sitting on the bench in the minors would be better than starting for Michigan?
The sad thing is, I'd never heard anything to the contrary that he was coming to Michigan.
Just a bombshell.
we need some good old fashioned propaganda to cheer us up and make us feel awesome.
Apparently we've just released WLA 3.0. I just found out myself actually.

Wow. The thought of the 2010 recruiting class has been the only comforting feeling for me during the slow and wretched start to this hockey season. What is going on with our Michigan sports? Seems like its been a long time since something positive happened for us.
Our toils obscure an' a' that,
The rank is but the guinea's stamp,
The man's the gowd for a' that.
Terrible day in the world of Michigan hockey.
Campbell is just devastating. This is so fucking depressing.

This is the risk you take in college hockey, which is one of two major routes to the NHL. There's tons of pressure for kids to go the Juniors route, and like it or not, college hockey is still working its way up to being a completely viable and equal alternative. It's depressing to see guys go to the AHL/OHL at the drop of a hat, but with the NHL talent pool being what it is, kids will do what they have to do to get there, even if it ends up screwing them over. We've heard Red (correctly) rant about this until he's blue in the face, but not every kid values a college education or playing the college game.
That's the nature of the beast. If I'm not mistaken, hockey is the only NCAA sport where professional squads have signing rights to players still playing the college game, and that lure is huge. These guys barely even leave the NCAA tournament arena after their team's loss before they've signed the contract and made arrangements to fly to the next city on the NHL schedule.
The problem is the lack of quality American kids, it always has been. Once there is a real national recruiting ability, college hockey will start to gain ground... as it is, the USHL (excluding the NTDP) are just so weak on the whole that it's impossible to compete without the Canadian kids, who are obviously predisposed to the CHL. It also doesn't help when kids like Kane decide to head to Canada at the last minute.

Duh, can't believe I missed this pretty obvious point. Although it's fair to say American talent has never been stronger than it is now.
The NCAA is also attempting to open up to Canadian schools, but really, I don't see how this is going to solve anything.
I can't believe I typed Kane instead of Campbell... but the example still worked. I'd agree, American talent is at an all time high and it's only getting better. The number of good Canadian kids opting to play in college is also increasing, likely due to Toews... I think there were two college bound Canadian players drafted in the first round this season which is excellent.
The NCAA adding some Canadian schools will be meaningless. When the choice is between playing for cash in what is pretty much universally regarded as the best developmental league in the world or playing for free at a Canadian university with several built in disadvantages, the choice is easy.

i never intended to do this (LOL) but after a lot of thought about all the money I can make right away i changed my mind permanently. Sorry! but i appreciate the support you gave me. Im gonna miss the fans thats for sure, but I'm really looking forward to that sweet new Hummer. Plus I don't have to take those lame English lit classes.

This fall has been horrible for Michigan. I'm turning off the computer and going to drink whiskey until the Michigan basketball game on Thursday. God help me if we lose that one.
